Varnius
Would there be a problem with storing long-weapons, including the M4, facing down instead of facing up (meaning the barrel is holding up the weight of the gun instead of the stock supporting the gun from the ground). I am using soft material on top of carpet for the barrel to stand on.
8 Shot M1 Super 90
Why? What advantages do you think youre gonna come up with storing them muzzle down?
Varnius
Based on the M4's staging location, it will be easier/faster to pick up and point, instead of flipping and pointing (from having to reach lower to grab the pistol grip). I just need to know if I should worry about any damage it may cause the weapon, long term, or other considerations (such as lube getting into primers of a fully loaded M4, etc). chuck_s
The weapon could care less if it's muzzle up, down, or sideways. I can get more long guns in my safe if some are muzzle down. None of them care. -- Chuck
tactical1
Only concern I would voice for storing with the barrel down would be moisture wicking up from the carpet/pad - if that's something you need to worry about in your neck of the woods
Batmaniac
I stored mine barrel down for a few weeks. Then I put on a tactical choke. Stopped storing it that way since I thought it could be harmful to have that pressure on the choke threads.
Super33
If you store them muzzle down the darn gun won't be able to breath. You'd pick it up and it'll be dead. And we all know a dead gun is useless. On the other hand, pointing it up is pointing it towards heaven. God lives in heaven..... You decide. KB Fab
I read somewhere on the internet that storing a gun barrel down could possibly cause some things that may or may not be advantageous to a successful outcome where someones well being is threatened by a warthog invasion that was initiated by a redneck having his way with one in the middle of the Louisiana backwoods. Probably nothing to worry about but you can never be too careful.
saym14
i read somewhere on these internets (i think it was a major safe manufacturer, that wood stocked guns should be store barrel down. helps keep the wood from warping. so I dont see why it would hurt an M4. twowheelhooligan
Handguns are holstered muzzle down. They don't care! A shotgun is polymer and steel. Polymer and steel, whether collective or separate don't care. If you care enough to ask the question, you'll care enough for maintenance to your gun to inspect it frequently. In which case, it (your Ben M4) won't care how it's stored. Just my $.0005 worth. Happy shooting! 2-wheel
