Differenr versions of the M1014 Barrel ??

I picked up a new M1014 Barrel.

 

it is slightly different from the first one I had . It has the "wing" on the end of it (bottom one in pic)

 

 

 

The Crown has a bevel on the newer one as well (bottom one in pic).

 

 

Anybody know why the changes were made ??

That is current mil-spec, as of at least 1 year ago.
