sonyman74
I just got one of these and it is nice. But I can only get 6 2 3/4 shells in it. I thought you could get 7 in there. What am I doing wrong? I used the factory spring that came with it.
CivilianM4
I'm able to get 7 shells (2 3/4) of 00 buck in mine; however, I can only get 6 rounds of slugs (2 3/4) to fit. Are you only trying to load slugs?
sonyman74
I'm using 00 buck. I get 6 in and the 7th one goes about 1/2 way in.
steel-plate
Depending on Brand of ammo, they are all different lengths by just a bit. What brand are you using ?
sonyman74
Wolf 00 buck
jualdeaux
I can fit 7 rounds of both Winchester Ranger shot and slugs and hornady TAP shot and slugs just fine in mine.
Lakotah
I have wolf 00 and can get 7 in mine. Do you have a plug in your tube?
sonyman74
No. Just the follower and the spring retaining clip.
Caligvla
try another brand of ammo. I use lots of different ammo and 75% of the time can get 7 in the tube. Wolf - yuk... don't give the Russians your money!!! I like Fiocchi, it's cheap, it works and the Italians are much nicer!
sonyman74
Well, I did not realize how much difference there is in length in 2 3/4 in. ammo. I tried some Winchester Lead shot heavy game loads in #8 and got 7 in the mag. So I pulled out the old tape measure and the Wolf is 2 1/2, the Sellier & Bellot is 2 9/16, and the Winchester was 2 5/16.
Diatribes
Your spring might be in there twisted or might be too long
Monkey
The spring has more to do with this than differences in ammo. The spring binding or using too long a spring will reduce ammo capacity.
sonyman74
It is the factory M4 spring.
Super M4
I had the same problem when I got mine. I changed the mag tube spring with a brand new one and had the same problem. Certain types of 2 3/4 inch shells are made different than others are. You mentioned Buck shot, if you look at how S&B buckshot and Wolf are made they use a cap instead of a crimp to keep the shot in. That little bit makes all the difference when loading more and more rounds in the tube. Also try leaving your mag tube loaded to max capacity for a while to see if the spring will compress down more. When I first got my M4 I tried just about every type of buckshot I could find to see what patterned the best and what rounds I could fit more of in the tube. My preference is the Federal Flight Control Wad 9pellet 00 Buckshot, but I could only get 6 in the tube, so I opted for the Black box Hornady TAP 00 Buckshot.
