I have been very dissatisfied and disappointed with my Benelli left hand SB3 I bought it December 2020, my gun shop  had just received it in. I had ordered it special being left handed, I took it out the following day that I bought it and was missing ducks left and right. I was very frustrated and thought it was my shooting. My buddy who had a old Rem 870 had almost limited out asked to swap guns with me for his last duck of his 7 duck limit. Mind you I had not killed a duck yet.  As far as hunting goes, It was awesome day of late season Idaho duck hunting on the snake River with lots of birds working the river. We didn’t have to wait long for more birds to come in. On next flock of ducks that sailed right into our spread wings cupped like they had been all morning, I ended up with a double with the 870 and my did the missing with 3 shot out of my Benelli.  Our dog had just retrieved my two birds and we barely had time to reload our guns when another small flock of mallards came diving into our spread. Same results, I had two ducks down in the water and my buddy, missed again with all three shots. He asked for his 870 back and we didn’t have to wait long and he killed his last duck, and I missed again with all three shots. At that point we both knew it wasn’t our shooting that was the problem but the gun. I then decided to shoot at a small piece of ice floating by about the size of a clay pigeon 20 yards out to see where the heck the gun was shooting. To say we were both shocked when the pattern hit way above the piece of ice. I ended up finishing off my limit of birds with his 870. And was angry and determined to figure out why my new SB3 shoot so high.  Now a year and a half later I still own the gun, it’s been sent into Benelli twice, I have all the right shims on it and even have a high viz sight on the end of the barrel as well as bought different chokes for it. And guess what it still shoots super high. I had hopes of Turkey hunting with it but no way is that possible. We even tried to pattern it from a rifle rest to take all human error out of it.  With shooting from a rifle rest at the range it’s shoots/patterns 100/0 high at 22 yards. That’s ridiculous and not acceptable imo.  I have not sold the gun or traded it off, I am a gun collector, and I own most of the waterfowl shotguns on the market. This year my Browning Maxxis 2 and Beretta A400 will be traded back and forth on my waterfowl hunts. Both of them shoot a near perfect, 60/40 pattern.  So if looking to get  a new shotgun, I can get behind and support most of them on the market today, but not Benelli, I would caution anyone that wants to buy a Benelli, and that’s a shame for such a prestigious gun manufacturer.

Did Benelli send you the patterning results after the gun was shot at Benelli USA?  Did they include any comments about the results they established during the test shooting?

Here is a image of established pellet counts. Remembering the pellet count is taken from the center of the 6" circle target.

  2. I believe you will need to be more specific about when and why your gun is either not feeding shells from the magazine or is the bolt locking back upon shooting.  If it is the later you have one to to three possible issues.

    1. Your carrier latch is out of adjustment

    2. The drop shells lever was cut, out of spec

    3. The trigger guard is out of spec

If you would like to PM and would be very willing to assist you.

  3. Your problem is more than likely the carrier is out of adjustment, the the problem is pretty hard to diagnose unless you seen it a few times.  Most "gunsmith's" will have a difficult time figuring this out unless they worked on several Nova's with this condition.

If the gun is still under warranty you would be much better to ship it back to Benelli.

  4. There is a adjustment which is correctly called the forend adjustment screw.  *part number 61592, please pm me if you can not locate it, I will send you a photo.

Do not be afraid to get acquainted with your shim adjustment package, MOST 828U fit very few people, out of the box, particularly the 20 Gauge with a 26" barrel.

  5. The Drop Shim Plate is labeled:

    DX -  Right Handed

    SX - Left Handed

The corresponding cast shim labeled DX or SX should then be used after the drop shim when installing these shims between the receiver and the stock.

Your sightline should then look like this:

Guns are assembled and test fired by Benelli.

This is what is known as proofing, the gun is then cleaned disassembled, guns such as the M4 have the barrel removed, handguards and bolt removed from the gun and then packed in a retail box in the case of a M4, for shipping.  The retailer then assembles guns which are placed on the retail sales racking for customer viewing and handling, you will note this from the photo provided above.

Most of not all of the wear happened after the above said steps of assembly by the retailer.

  7. Thank you for introducing a very important topic - your dealer.  The photos you introduced are from dealer assembly and dealer handling.  This is yet another great example of the dealer you choose.  Great dealer support would take care of the customer, such as returns, marking down blemished guns and returning guns to manufacturers when needed.

The dealer noted hear removes most if not all of the guns from retail racking daily, thus increased handling.

Call me crazy, but what he is holding in the picture doesn't look anything like part #39. I don't have a Vinci so I'm no expert but what he has looks like a shipping tab. I can't imaging there'd be easily breakable plastic parts in the chamber; I could be wrong.

This is a part #39 that does show wear over time if it is not inserted properly, it is not a shipping tab.

  9. It would be listed as part number #39 in Midwest Gun Works, MGW actually the holder of most Benelli small parts.  The role of the buffer pad is to keep the bolt assembly positioned in the receiver.  It would be wise to get the part replaced however there is very little if any stock on the part number 60873.  Call Benelli Warranty and ask them for a new one providing it is still under the Vinci Warranty which is 5 years.

  10. You will need to change the Magazine Spring if you would like it done correctly - Why, you will damage your Carrier Latch with usage.  I replace 8 - 10 Carrier Latches per year - most common cause, extended magazines that are not setup correctly.

Some after marketers of these products have very little understanding of the cause and effect because they never deal with the effect - bent carrier latches.

Having light primer strikes with my supernova only about 1 year old and I use Kent fasteel and Winchester superx and Winchester blindside it just seems to be random.

Clean the inside of your bolt, debris inside the bolt is not allowing the firing pin to travel through without obstruction.

  12. Most M2's are pretty tight when installing the fore end/barrel assembly, particularly 20 gauges, if you remove the barrel you should be able to see alignment from the magazine tube inside of the fore end, simply align and pull the fore end off this may require some force.
