  1. That is a nice auction. I like that video. I was waiting for that guy to drop all three of those hogs. Glad you got what you wanted out of it. Is the FFL paper work fairly easy to deal with? It's mostly the work of the buyer isn't it?
  2. Tucker hit the nail on the head about calling ducks. The original wench is a great sounding call for the price. I also like the Echo line of calls. Their polycarb (timber) is an inexpensive call that has a pretty raspy tone. And if you so choose, it can reach out there too. Another Echo call I like is the wood/poly carb. It is somewhat softer and even more raspy. I like it a lot too. The second runs around $45, while the polycarb is about half that. If you want an acrylic for a decent price, look at DOA Game Calls. I think their high end call runs for around $85. The double trouble is a medium to low call that really sounds great and is easy to blow. Winglock makes a decent short reed goose call for around $35. At the higher end, Foiles Straight Meat Honker is a gem. Just my $.02. [ 06-21-2006, 06:36 AM: Message edited by: Webfoot ]
  3. I thought the superbowl looked "fixed." The calls during the USA vs. Italy match were painfully obvious. I was throwing stuff!!
  4. Well done!! Congratulations!!
  5. I'm sure you guys have probably seen these but they are the bogus emails from "ebay sellers." I got one the other day that looked so real it was amazing. And is was actually for a product I might have been interested in. They had the ebay logo down perfect and the "buy it now" items looked identicle to those on the genuine ebay site. The only thing that set it apart was at the top of the page it was addressed to my email address rather than my full name listed with ebay. When ebay sends out emails they will address you buy your registered name. Not your login name or email. I'm somewhat naive and usually very trusting of people. I find myself very guarded now. I got a phone call, probably your buddy Akeem, wanting my bank routing numbers so he could "deposit" a grant that I had one. I instantly knew what he was up to knowing full well you don't win grants you don't apply for. So I played around with him for a while. I think I finally drove him nuts. I told him to just mail me the money and I'll deposit it myself. Then I got as much info as I could and turned it in. There was actually a website, that took info and provided help to anyone, regarding the exact same fraudulent calls. Pretty lame. Do they really think we are that stupid.
  6. I appreciate the accountability that Tucker and others bring to the forum. People who make ignorant posts and comments will get nothing but an azz chewing. Oh yeah, poor grammar and the use of motion wing decoys will most likely get you one too.
  7. I'de like to think so sdkidaho!! My roommate from college just got his PhD in some form of entomology (love to take him fly fishing with me). Anyway, he said that it is theorized that West Nile infections are higher than we realize. In healthy individuals it rarely even presents itself, so they rarely test for it. Where it might be more noticeable is in the young and elderly who's immune systems are not as potent. [ 06-16-2006, 06:57 AM: Message edited by: Webfoot ]
  8. I got 29/30 for the first three. I won't mention what I scored on the ducklings.
  9. Makes sense. Good link. My father always said, "I'de rather be lucky than good any day."
  10. I was hoping you were further than 100 yards. "Nice Shoot'n Tex" I bet that 22-250 is a dream to shoot. One more question. MOA? How does that relate to a group shot in inches? Dumb question probably.
  11. I thought it was a joke. Right up until they showed the skinned deer. I wonder if those come with a modified choke for duck hunting? TGIF Have a good weekend everyone.
  12. Does anyone have any ideas as to why I can not download the flash player? It starts the download and then says it is complete but I still can't open the website. Any ideas? [ 05-19-2006, 11:15 AM: Message edited by: Webfoot ]
  13. I read an interesting article in a Vet medicine journal a couple weeks ago. It mentioned that unless the H5N1 strain makes a significant mutation, chances are that it won't infect a large number of people. The specific cell marker that the virus binds to in humans, lies deep within our lung tissue. They go on to say that the smallest airborne particles will have trouble embedding at the required depths needed to infect humans. With this being said, we do know that it is still possible to become infected. With all the restrictions there are regarding large scale poultry and swine operations we certainly stand a better chance than most. What worries me are the smaller scale farms with still decent numbers of poultry that are letting all their animals roam and interact with each other, especially swine. If you get an infected bird in close proximity to swine our chances of the virus mutating to a form that will readily infect us will most definitely increase. Only time will tell. Very interesting stuff. [ 05-09-2006, 01:05 PM: Message edited by: Webfoot ]
  14. I think the risk we as hunters are going to be eventually exposed to is infected, mostly stagnant, water like marshes, ponds and small lakes. One infected bird can crap a ton. Here's a little info I found from CDC that makes sense: Do not handle or eat sick game. Wear rubber or disposable latex gloves while handling and cleaning game, wash hands with soap and water (or with alcohol-based hand products if the hands are not visibly soiled), and thoroughly clean knives, equipment and surfaces that come in contact with game. Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling animals. Cook all game thoroughly. I have always carried an alcohol based hand wash in my blind bag, even before I heard of avian flu. Its just a good idea and I hate having dirty hands. Those confined marshes have got to be cesspools of bacteria and enteric pathogens. This could just blow over too. What happened to SARS and West Nile??? But, I'm not so sure avian flu is going to go away that easily. Just some food for thought.
  15. I'm starting to think this European thing is the way to go, whether it be guns or women.... My wife usually comes home covered in cow manure.....
  16. I have a "Raspy Hen" diaphragm call that that tickles the roof of my mouth to the point I can't stand it any longer. Do all diaphragms do this or am I just being a wuss? I'm fairly new to Turkey Hunting but have a great time driving my wife and dogs nuts.
  17. I have a new, never used Limb Saver Recoil pad I no longer need. Part # 10401, $30 shipped. Send me a note if you have any questions.
  18. I roast my geese whole, stuffed with fruit of all kinds (mostly oranges, apples and pears) and use the fruit fluid run-off to make a glaze with some corn starch. Make some stuffing from scratch and some mashed potatoes and a good glass of my buddies homemade wine. The same works for whole ducks too. I also like to wrap bacon around a marinated duck breast and grill them to about med to med-rare. I also make a lot of duck jerky.
  19. Mostly public marsh. We'll head to the lakes and nearby rivers around the marsh when everything freezes up, some private land as well as the family farm.
  20. That's "purdy" tucker. I really like the grain and the coloration of the wood. Very Nice.
  21. Mudhen, Are those Green head gear full body mallards?
