  1. From what I am reading you are trying to take forearm off barrel. It belongs on barrel to install on reciever. All the way forward(on magazine RING) is where it belongs. Your seem to be using the words tube and ring as meaning the same part, they are not. The last 1/4 inch of installation might require making sure top and bottom reciever are together(the horz. joint) before the final seating (vert. joint) of the top reciever. You might be better with another brand. I have two SBE(left hand) and two SBE(righthand) for over 18 years and never had a problem.
  2. FIB, I have never seen an 11/87 work correctly is a fact. They rest of you statement is your opinion, my previous sentence is a statement. I have been around a bird hunting preserve for over 20 years and the owner hates to see a 11/87 come out of the case. I also have had a 1100 that the mechanics worked well, still did not like gun. As I said in last post, enjoy your gun/guns.
  3. Better late than never, 50 yds. Sorry
  4. If you trade ANY LH weapon you will take it on the chin. If you trade ANY weapon you will take it on the chin. I have not seen a 11/87 that worked correctly. That being said you are allowed to have your opinion and are allowed to be happy w/ Remington. The mass of posts will speak for itself. Enjoy your 11/87 & I my SBE's.
  5. I had a SBE for 18 years, used it for buckshot & had a slug barrel. It had 1,000's of shots and never failed to cycle. Cleaned it once a year or if wet. Now have two left hand(one SBE & one SBEII) guns and they work fine. The larger guard on II is a nice touch. Have had a Berretta Ext. and a Browning Gold 3 1/2, I will take the SBE hands down.
  6. The dia. of gun is less important than the speed. Vel. will cause hydralic(shock) damage. I went from a .44mag to a 454 and am happy. A .44 has quite a bit more vel. than the .357
  7. I just used a Patternmaster extended(for 3 1/2"shells) and it put 10 to 14 pellets in a 10" circle(50 yrds), the rest being close. I was impressed. The gun is a SBE II. We also had a extended tube for a Browning Gold 3 1/2" which we used on 3 different guns. It worked great on one and fair on second gun, third gun shot bad. Only ammo it liked was Federal 00(3 1/2"). Did not try any shorter rounds. As I understand Patternmaster they do not choke the bore, they change pattern by how long the tube is past the bumps.
  8. I had one for 17 years, never failed. Just sold it last month for org. purchase price, now own left hand SBE & SBEII.
  9. Now I am confused. If 100% are in a 9x13", it goes w/o saying they are in a 20" circle. My hope is you did not sell the Remington, you will be hard pressed to get another shotgun to shoot like you stated. My first post means no two barrels, two different lots of ammo or two matching chokes perform the same.
  10. Not going to happen. When you find one that works the brand buckshot you like will not be the same. Even if they keep the same powder, primer, buffer, etc. they vary from manf. lot to lot. I make my buckshot and it is a pain and costly.

    SBE II Slugs??

Hornady shot great in my gun. Liightfields seem to shot good in any SBE I have shot (five guns). They were all E R Shaw barrels and now they are made by Benelli and have a lighter wall barrel, do not know how much it matters.

    sbe and sbe II

The SBE II has a larger bore.
  13. The SBE II barrel has a longer lug on the magazine ring. It needs a SBE II forearm to fit. A SBE II forearm will work with a original SBE barrel.
  14. I second Nikon scopes. I have a new one to try this year, it has a 4" eye relief at any power, mid priced and Nikon is a good name. I have a Nikon rangefinder and it works great.
  15. All chokes have the same constriction( cyl =0 to full =.035"). The difference is all bores are not the same. The standard for a 12 ga. is from something like .725 to .740" Early SBE was a tight barrel & the Browning Gold is looose barrel. New SBE II is in the middle.
  16. Need a SBE II forearm. The lug on a II barrel is different. A SBE II forearm will fit a SBE but the reverse is not true.
  17. Anyone that does not think this is bad should find the orginal FFL hearings/laws and read them. One step at a time they are eating away at gun rights for lawful owners. The org. FFL was a reasonable fee and any good citizen could abtain. Now you get one and you will find cameras in your trees, etc. All these laws and I can walk down to waterfront and get almost any gun I want in 15 minutes.
  18. That makes no sense at all. What are they going to do about the thousands of guns that come in from out of state during hunting season? Sounds like a money grab/gun control. I am happy I go to Del and not Pa. Good luck.
  19. I just bought a late model SBE I, left hand, in perfect shape for $700(from a dealer).
  20. I could not find one, but you can have one made. E R Shaw made the RH barrels for SBE's years ago. They will make LH barrels BUT they need a old barrel for the reciever and magazine hub. You must loose a barrel to get a slug barrel. Cost for barrel, install, tap for scope and matching finish is $340. Benelli, last month, did not have replacement barrels for the II's. A SBE left hand barrel will interchange but Benelli told me you need old style forearm also. I am having one made(16 weeks, will get it end of May).
  21. It is easy, if you have a normal amout of ability. Take the trigger assembly out by removing cross pin(above saftey) w/bolt closed. On the trigger assembly above the saftey is a cross pin. This pin has a spring under it holding saftey in place. Remove pin with a small drill bit but stop once spring is exposed(this saves starting pin in hole). Remove spring, turn trigger guard facing up(put finger over hole where spring was to catch ball if it falls out). Now remove saftey and install in oppsite direction. Replace spring(hold spring below pin with drill bit and work pin back w/small hammer making sure spring is below pin. A smaller bit will hold second side of spring after first side passes under pin. Reinstall trigger assembly. If you feel up to job thats all there is to the change. Takes me a couple of minutes. I just did it as I bought left hand guns and sold my right hand to a RH person.
