  1. I know what you mean about seeing ducks and geese that have no natural reason to migrate. Here in Wisconsin there are many places built to view and protect waterfowl and they have become nothing more than year round safe havens for waterfowl to spend the rest of their lives. Some of these places have such high concentrations of waterfowl that the lagoons created to protect them are so polluted with their waste that they must be drained, dredged, and the waste disposed of like toxic waste. These sanctuaries are nice to show your kids a few ducks and for photographers to take nice pictures, but to me it does nothing to help sustain a healthy waterfowl population. These local birds bombard local golf courses with crap, feed heavily on urban farm fields, and basically never leave the vacinity because even after freeze up the local sanctuaries are kept open by aerators. These birds are almost un -huntable because they seldome leave the larger metropolitan areas which support them.
  2. Dont forget practice makes almost perfect, plus its the funnest part.
  3. Nice pic!! This is life in the wild!
  4. I agree about the waterfowl season length; it should be a few weeks longer and especially for geese - lots of locals that just crap all over the parks and hang out in the refuge eating bags of corn. Most years its froze over weeks ago but lately you could easily extended both duck and goose; maybe its a warming trend. I think Likwid and I are just a little jealous the southern hunters are still having fun, while we wait for the our whole world to freeze solid in a few more weeks.
  5. Likwid, Which Pheasant farm do you go to? I live in the Green Bay area and often drive to Lena and hunt the 5 corners property; it gets a lot of pressure and I often run into other hunters. I am always interested in other places near by.
  6. I too did my share of Pheasant hunting this last weekend too, but these were planted a month ago over a vast area which gets quite a bit of pressure. The birds actually get pretty smart once they get pushed enough, and for the first 3 hours we went birdless. The last 30 minutes was awsome as we found a dozen of them all holed up on one small little 8 acre parcel where we shot 4 roosters and kicked up at least 15 hens, for a minute I thought I was in SD instead of WI. Lots of fun, and good work for my Lab Tread.

    Not firing

Could be sun exposure, dehydration, intoxication, or lack of ..........
  8. Nice bucks Tucker! Take them anyway you can get them. Our deer gun season here begins in a week and I cant wait; we will hunt the next 5 days steady and I hope I find some of you luck.
  9. I use a Primos timber wench for high balls and hails and a Illinois River wood call for the quieter raspy stuff, the timber wench was cheap but it does the job.
  10. If you want to find negative comments on the Stoeger M2000 try the Stoeger forum and just read. Lots of problems for you to review.
  11. I think I am getting the answers I expected, that being a variety. My impression is experiment a little and see what works, doesnt really cost that much to find out. I am getting my share of ducks the the number of shots per duck is high so thank God for a lot of targets. Could be my shooting or any number of different things, so keep trying.

    shells

For my own testing purposes what do you use for a target when patterning your shotgun. My guess would be a sheet of cardboard with a pattern of a duck or goose or even just a circle. I often see quite a price difference between 1 1/8 ounce loads and 1 1/4 or 1 3/8 with the cheapest being the lightest load. I killed a lot of ducks with 3" #2 1 1/8 ounce Winchester Xperts, and wonder if stepping would give better results.
  13. little green wing teal sdkidaho, tough little buggers to put a hit on. A few of these left in Northern Wisconsin but most have headed South, but many Mallards, Gads, and Widgeon still arriving daily. Waiting for the divers.
  14. A little off the original topic. My question is I can buy 1 1/8 ounce Winchester Xperts in #2 shot for $8 a box, and when you go to anything over that in 3" magnums the price per box of 25 doubles. Is there that big of performance improvement when you go from 1 1/8 to 1 1/4 or 1 3/8 ounce loads? The price for fun goes up considerably, so before I give them all a try I wanted to ask here. So far killing my share of ducks with the cheap stuff.

    Weekend hunt

I am sure the limits are different everywhere. I know they are quite different here in Wisconsin, so I wont get into details but rather conservative compared to Manitoba. Shoot what you are allowed is the name of the game, and have fun doing it.

    Weekend hunt

I believe you are correct tucker. I recall seeing some comments about this in other threads. Nicely said.
  17. I dont shoot the best at the gun club with either trap or skeet, but for some strange reason when I hunt with friends I kill and miss just as many birds as my friends who are very serious shooters. The situation makes it all unique and can throw off even the best shooters. Although I still highly reccomend the practice as it will only make you better.
  18. DU, Its hare to believe they let you shoot so many birds when you leave our state - guess we let em live so others can have all the fun. Go to ND and shoots till your arms fall off, its a blast literally.
