  1. Keep them coming Steve, these are some of the best photo of big game hunting I have seen in a long time. I have a friend who does one trip a year self guided in Alaska, nothing like it the world he tells me. Some day I will take him up on the offer.
  2. Hang in there Liberty, it gets better with time. My lab did a lot of the same things your experiencing and now he is 3 and rarely does he ever drop a retrieve before it touches my hand. More off season work and just time in the field will help, they learn from good and bad experiences too.
  3. Good luck with the new baby, but next time you need to plan those things a little better so they dont interfere with your hunting Get the crib built or you will never use that boat or see your wife in her Teddy again.
  4. Nice looking Lab, wish my guy would pick geese like that all the time. Ducks are not problem and very steady on the shot, but those geese he struggles with - I dont care if he drags them back as long as I dont have to go.
  5. One thought is before you go through all the trouble of adding an epoxy coating to the boat did you consider floating it the way it is to kind of proof the design. Looking at the photos everything looks great, but simetimes when I get close to finishing I feel the need for a test to be sure. Better hurry up, we are killing all your ducks up north every weekend - not letting too many migrators get by
  6. Depending upon the load your shooting the 3" 20 ga can be almost equivilent to a 2 3/4" 12 ga, so its good for bigger birds like Pheasant and Turkey. Its up to you if you want the extra edge or not, it wont hurt.
  7. The primos one (little can) in years past with limited success.

    New waders

We hunted the west shore of the bay near little tail. With the low water conditions on the bay this year you could easily get away with hip boots, I did however wear my new chest waders and was high and dry. I also tried them out up North for the northern zone opener in much deeper water and was quite comfortable. Here in Green Bay where I hunt I am rather priveleged to have a friend who owns some very nice private land right on the water, the public access near by sucks so we get very few visiters. Lots of pass shooting, not much decoying and calls amost useless. All typical of opening weekend. From my vantage point it looked like a carnival out there with layout boats, canoes, and every tom dick and harry hiding in the cat tails. We had by far the best shooting.

    New waders

I just got back from a week long buisness trip to SC, but managed to get home in time for the northern zone opener. In a nutshell we did great, one of the best any of us could think of. 4 men shot our limit of 24 ducks on Saturday; bag consisting of Red Heads, Teal, Mallards, Ring Bills, and Shovelers. I personally killed two geese on Saturday and another on Sunday, only due to being in the right place/time. Really strange seeing the Red Heads down so early and a lot of them. Mallards were mostly local young ducks not pluumed out yet, this will improve later into the season. Sundays hunt slowed down quite a bit (Typical) but the same group of 4 shot 10 ducks and one goose. Each day we were finished up by 11:00. We had a good time.

    New waders

Gotta love our weather here! We had a 14 year old boy participate in the youth hunt last weekend, and Saturday morning we had frost on the ground. Cold both Saturday and Sunday and now it looks like the Northern zone opener will be close to 80. Like they say if you dont like the weather wait a day and it will change, could be from one extreme to another. All you can to is take what ever mother nature gives.

    New waders

Thanks for the info guys! I broke down last night and bought a pair of Mad Dog 3mm neoprene waders with 600 grams of insulation in the boot, price was right plus a $10 coupon for Sportsmans Warehouse brought total sale down to $80. I put on my old hip boots and stood in swimming pool to find the leaks, then marked them and let the boots dry. Tonight I will repair the leaks for the last time, and keep these old beaters the warm days. We have a Northern zone opener this weekend and the temps have been in the mid 70's so bring the old ones as backups in case I get too hot.

    New waders

I just did a search and found this was hit pretty heavy in the past, lots of advice there to consider. Seems this was an old topic, but anything new is always appreciated.

    New waders

My old rubber hip boots finally developed some leaks and cracks and are beyond repair, so this year and I am looking for full length or waist high waders. I see some are made from different thicknesses of neoprene, canvass, rubber, and a new breathable material. Temperatures where I live can be in the 70's early season and down below freezing by the season end, we hunt mostly cattail swamp and some inland lakes. I made it this long without using inulated boots, but the older I get the colder the cold feels so some insulation should be considered. Any advice for or against a particular type would be appreciated.
  14. No, I usually shoot off hand or just steady up on a bent knee.

    My 1st Hun

Nice hun! Huns and Pheasant used to be real common in WI but now Huns are almost extinct and Pheasant are generally planted to sustain the population for hunters. For me it must be almost 20 years since I last shot a Hungarin Partridge.

    3 Grouse

I guess it makes you appreciate living in a gun friendly state, here in WI firearms and ammunician are readily available and sometimse even at gas stations.
  17. I never did like Spam very much.
  18. In WI we also cannot shoot Cranes, Swans, or too many ducks or geese either so your Crane looks pretty cool to me. We see lots of them here sitting on fields. Job well done.

  20. Looking forward to trying a few of these recepies! I have had terrible luck with my own so I wont bother to share them. Best idea I had in years was to take about 25 lbs of duck breast into the local meat market and have it ground into sausage, the flavor was very close to whitetail and everyone loved.
  21. A few freebies in the mail always helps get the word out.
  22. I saw that gun last weekend at Dicks, they go under the Diamond name. They look nice but I question the origin, priced at $850 or somthing close to it. Personally I would pass and go for a real Benelli or Beretta or somthing because who knows what you are really getting here.

    Montefeltro

chill out dude! may be no one knows your answer yet and are still looking but after the last remark I doubt help will be on the way. Personally I do not know offhand the differences between the two to properly identify one from the other.
  24. I live in NE Wisconsin. We drink lots of beer, eat cheese, and raise cows and not in that order but usually together. Hiccup. In my free time we shoot stuff. Ran out of beer, gotta take the tractor to the store to get more Pabst.
