    Me and The Boy

Pretty colors on those Teal. We never see that kind of color here up north, usually they are drab with a splash of green or blue on the wings. Cool!
  2. I too would go along with letting the factory take a try at repairing the gun, even after 3 trys the were able to fix my M2000 to the point it actually works well all the time (hard to believe). Like Tucker mentioned head space and firing pins could be the culprit but unless you submit to the hands of the professionals you wont know for sure, let them do their job.
  3. Just give em a few late pulls to throw them off if they got you on the ropes... works every time.
  4. Try WD40, its a great sticker remover when you dont want to mar the finish beneath. I dont reccomend it for gun lube but to take off a sticker on a matte finish barrel it should be fine.
  5. It looks like you lost your chair to Tank!

    what to choose

I bought a Xtrema with kick off just recently and couldnt be any happier, shoots super soft with any loads even the big 3 1/2" shells feel pretty tame. I dont think between the SBEII and the Xtrema there is much difference in price, just a little more weight in the Xtrema and of course gas versus inertia difference as explained quite well by Tucker. Choice is yours and try them both if you can before you buy.
  7. There are no doubt different schools of thought on how to train a puppy to become a hunting dog, some say start later and other like myself say start right away. Take all that for what is worth. I would go along with what Webfoot said, and most definitely consider hunting him this fall - you have time to evaluate him before opener. Like webfoot said to is may be on the first few shots you handle the dog and let others do the shooting to teach him to hunt for you, I too still struggle with this from time to time. Him looking a little skinny isnt too much to worry about, rather see that then have him fat. He is young so it will take time for him to fill in. Keep up the good work.
  8. At that age they remind me of being a teenager, kind big and long legged they move a little awkward in their growing bodies. Dont worry he will get much bigger before you know it, my yellow is 2 1/2 yrs and he is just starting to fill out nicely although he was always a little on the thin side. Have fun, hunting is coming soon.
  9. I thought these were father and son projects, who is doing all the work here? I made a few with the kids myself and I think I ended up having more fun with it than they did. Cool design.
  10. Here in the bitter cold northwoods of Wisconsin the winters have gradually gotten warmer over the years, and shorter. The last few years have been snowless in December, call it global warming or just an attitude change in mother nature.
  11. You and your family have plenty to be proud of, niether of those are easy majors and with that background they should be off to a very good start in life. Congratulations.
  12. Here in Wisconsin we have such tight bag limits we save em' for all you guys down south to have your way with. I cannot imagine anything like that happening here, heck it was a 2 year battle to just open up dove hunting here and its still contested.
  13. I bet they taste sort of like Eagle?
  14. I think your getting your hopes up a little high, he looks a bit young for water retrieves right now. First get him to play in it.
  15. Kind of on the line with what laidback is saying you might just want to stick with the disipline training and make the retrieving part secondary, my lab didnt retrieve worth a dam for months before it started to take very slowly. You will see the results your looking for come in baby steps and at times you think he has somthing mastered and later you see he doesnt - all part of the process. Playing can be just time together, taking a walk and letting him do what he wants to do within reason, even throwing tennis balls or sticks around. Basic disipline is a must before anything else works. Sorry if this seems a little chopped up, it has been a few year since I worked with a puppy.
  16. I have some of these and they work great, smaller ones for pups are a little better for their small mouths. You can also tie-wrap wing clips from ducks, geese or pheasanst on your canvass dummies to give them scent and the feel of feathers in their mouths. Another little tip is to keep your dummies in a feather bag, take your wing clips or breast feathers from ducks or geese and put them in a burlap sack and add your dummies and even tennis balls to the mix to help scent them. You will really need that scent once you start blind retrieves. I do the same for my dummies that I propel with a dummy launcher.
  17. I know a couple of guys who use their 20's for duck hunting, shooting 3" magumns should do the trick fo you. You might have to be a little picky about your shots but birds over decoys shouldnt be a problem.
  18. Nice looking dogs.
  19. I used to own a Browning BAR in 7mm magnum, used it for WI whitetail hunting. I got rid of it because it was a bit heavy to make drives with or even sit with all day, opted for a Remington BDL in 30.06 and just love it. I never had any accuracy problems or any general mechanical problems with the Browning, it just was a bit too big for my likeing. One other thing is the Browning had the BOSS system, a bunch a boloney if you ask me and I dont like ported barrels too much, easy on the recoil but **** on the ears and in my opinion not worth the extra money.
  20. I am taking my 5 year old son out with me on Friday morning to sit with me during my Turkey hunt, he is just bursting at the seems to go - hopefully he keeps his cool if the action gets hot.
  21. I too am seeing a lot of duck and geese all paired up. I took the kids to the sanctuary and saw lots of geese on nests with eggs, the get pretty crabby if you get too close. On the bay where I hunt a do some retriever work with my dog there must be thousands of ducks and lots of swans too. When my dummy launcher cracks off the sky litterally turns dark with all the birds getting up a few hundred yards away. Pretty awesome.
  22. I have been in this airport a few times and what you see here is true, each time a took a leak there appeared to be a fly in urinal. Personally I dont like this airport too much, the Dutch is a little overwhelming and it makes the trip to Frankfurt much longer.
  23. A friend of mine does that with some of his grouse tail fans if the look unique enough, sometimes a red phase is a little out of the ordinary. I think its the same priciple, but have not done this myself.

    Thanks Webfoot, good advice.

    Lymes disease

I used Frontline on him all last spring and summer and cut it out in the fall, but it seemed the tick season here ran much longer that in previous years. I use Fronline now as preventative measures and also with spray on tick/flea product for added affect. Problem is we do a lot of water training all spring and summer long, and I mean every week several days a week so it seems the Frontline is wearing off rather fast and I wonder how often to reapply it. They say it last 3 or 4 weeks but I hardly believe it as often he gets wet. I will check again with the vet and see what they say. Do you use both Frontline and Advantix or just one or the other?
