  1. Good shooting Webfoot. Our northerzone opens up the coming weekend, however we just finished up early goose and had our exterior zone opend this last weekend. We expect lots of wood duck this coming weekend.
  2. Come on guys, we are talking squirrels here, tree rats, your killing me on the choke tube thing
  3. To get the dog back we did a lot of things but the ones that work the best are to report your dog missing with the local police, humane societly or equiv too, and animal control - we found these 3 groups work together so if one of them knows somthing they all do. We hung signs, flyers in newspaper boxes, add in newspaper, and talked to the neighbors. The neighbor kids gave us the tip he was picked up, all you can really do is wait and hope someone brings him or her into the authorities in a timely manner. We had a happy ending, thank God.
  4. you live in a blast furnace Tucker! I think it got up to 70 this weekend here mostly overcast and rainy - was good for our early goose season hunts.
  5. Thank you all for your concerns. We finally got him back on Saturday afternoon. The couple that picked him up found him about 50 yards away from my front door, guess he let himself out somehow. They kept him for about 3 days before calling him in at the local humane society clinic, once the humane society got the call they phoned us immediatly with the contact info. We drove about 10 miles from our house to get him; when we arrived we found the couple who had him was really more interested in actually keeping him but must have had second thoughts. The made me prove it was my dog (like they couldnt tell), so we did a few tricks and some retrieving drills combined with hand signals just in case there was any doubt. The whole family was happy has **** to get him back, and believe me everyone was misserable while he was gone. He gets chipped this week and last night I riveted his tags to his collar, no name on the tags - its harder to keep a dog when you dont know his name - my dogs captures found that out. To end the weekend on a high note we went goose hunting over a picked winter wheat field, shot 6 geese in our group and let my dog Tread bring em all back. It didnt matter if they were stone dead or alive and kicking he got them all. Next week we celebrate his 4th b-day! Bring on the ducks and pheasants.
  6. Only good news we had was there was a guy driving around with a dog in his van asking kids if they knew who he belonged to, one kid pointed toward our house but no dog yet. So its possible he escaped?? Either way the guy isnt doing the right thing by bringing him into to the humane society drop off or local animal control or the cops, all of them have our info on hand. Another night of searching.
  7. 8's or 9's are standard skeet size pellets, 7 1/2's are ok but like its been mentioned you get a less dense pattern. Timb99 is right about ATA rules being 7 1/2 shot is the largest allowed. Typical traps loads use 7 1/2 for the long range shots through full or mod chokes.
  8. Northern Wisconsin Ruger M77 7mm Rem Magnum - 150 gr Nosler Remington 740 30.06 180 gr Nosler Marlin 30-30 - 165 gr flat nose Mathews Solocam bow
  9. I dont know if anyone here ever had this happen to them, but hope you never do. Last night we left the house for an hour, our yellow lab was in the back yard which is fenced 6' high/gated/and locked. When we returned home the gate was wide open, lock of, and dog gone. I dont know of too many dogs who can pick a lock, he never got out in the past, never wondered, and for us was the best companion you could ask for. I cannot imagine for the life of me where he is or who or what took him, my only guess with his friendly nature he is sitting in someone elses living room sleeping on the floor. Cops were called, humane sociently notified, vets called, and flyers being sent out today. Some how I dont think we are getting him back. Lots of sad kids and moms and dads here.
  10. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  11. You shouldnt shoot steel in any choke tighter that Mod thats why, pretty much standard info for any gun.
  12. *****s, there does that do it.
  13. Anything you can tell that is being hunted behind a fence, which means most white tail shows - the deer act so stupid you cant believe it.
  14. How many does your recepie serve? Sounds tempting. I think an addition 1/4 cup of bourbon is requried during the preparation process for the cook
  15. I dont think that will ever happen. There will be a day where the only lead we shoot might be at clay birds, heck they even consider using non tox sinkers. Dream on.
  16. Tucker, dove hunting is new to us Wisconsin folk. What do you do with those little critters?
  17. I guess you have to try it to appreciate it. I come from years of shooting what ever is on sale today, typically Winchester Experts or Remington sportsmans when they come on sale for around $10 a box for 12ga-3"-#2 or BB. Perhaps I am missing out on somthing. We shoot a lot of passing ducks at 35 - 40 yards; mostly puddle ducks. If I were to try the Hevi Shot are you saying I could go to #4 or even #6 shot?? Also move up from IC chokes to Mod? Patterning is the proof, just want to see if its more like shooting lead again.
  18. The advice you recieved is probably close to the truth, the SBE you shoot is a great field gun but you are noticing what happens on the range with competetive shooting - getting your ass kicked. A good O/U or gas Auto would fill the gap for you.
  19. What ever you do dont go on the cheap and buy an off brand like the Stoeger if you going to shoot a lot and have a passion for what your doing. Like Timb99 said you cannot go wrong with a used Citori, and it should fall within your spending limit. You should find some nice used guns in the 1K range but stick to the big boys like Browning, Berretta, Remington ect..... Find the one that fits the best and shoot it.
  20. Not in my book, thats insane to pay $16 - $18 for a 10ct box of shells. At the end of the day a solid hit is a hit and a miss is still a miss no matter what your throwing out there. Somthing I just dont quite understand here.
  21. I am in Wisconsin too and see a lot of the same DU4ME2, starting to make a lot of plans for this fall. I have a lot of 3 and 4 day weekends planned from the end of October through all of November. The nights and mornings are really starting to cool off, in Rhinelander last weekend they had frost warnings
  22. Either your really trolling here or talking complete nonsense and I will leave it at that.
  23. I was just at GM last night and for a changed walked out empty handed. Yeah those prices are real and not real good either, they are nuts but I think the whole industry is getting a little nuts. We stock piled shells the last few years for duck hunting and I am sure glad I did it back then because the prices and really shot up.....parden the pun.
