    Ready?

I did some work to an old rig of mine, but I must say you put me to shame.......nice rig Tucker.
  2. Since the WDNR reintroduced the wolf to Wisconsin they seemed to have taken off rather well, and in the northern parts of the state they can be a seen from time to time. In the last 2 years the hunters in our deer camp have seen 6 of them, and this is just one small area. This is one big animal. They hear the dinner bell when gun shots go off, just like the coyote's....gut pile time.
  3. Out of curiosity does anyone in here do any steel shot reloading?
  4. Just like the article mentions it is really sort of a useless piece of information. If you reload shot shells I look more at velocity and pressure, which to me actually mean somthing. Dram is a thing of the way past.

    Molds for bullits

This would go better in the Ubrti catagory.
  6. I would get a Lymans book too, it covers steel shot shell reloading. From what I recall Blue dot powder is a common slow burning magnum powder, find the right charge and wad from the manual.
  7. Shoot lots of skeet as a warm up for the season, its the best for getting used to a lot of crossing shots which you will see the most of duck and goose hunting. Sporting clays isnt bad either because you will get more of a mixture of target angles. A 3' - 5' lead is not too much in some cases where you have a further distances to shoot. Mod choke with steel is about the limit before you either damage equipment or blow out the pattern. Take a few shots as suggested on a patterning board with IC and Mod chokes then you will know what we mean.
  8. Regarding ducks. I moved to a new house recently along the side a of a small river, and every morning and night we have ducks and geese coming and going. Yard is covered with goose crap, but the dog keeps them moving along. Mallards, woodies, and teal seem to make the duck count I see daily. My old 1950's Lone Star boat got a second chance at life; new coat of camo paint, fresher 25HP motor, rig to set a blind, so all thats left is to take a ride downstream and find a good place to hunt with it. Getting ready.
  9. Bulged barrel or stuck choke would be the worst I can see, but a messed up blown out pattern could be another undesirable result. Mod choke with steel is supposed to be similar to shooting full choke with lead, my experience has shown the mod choke reaches pretty good with steel. your milage may vary.
  10. Like they say...."put the two blocks of wood together"...
  11. I doubt the game friendly Wisconsin DNR would ever let us shoot 15 ducks a day ever again, so it should be the typical 5 bird limit. Cant wait, I just moved onto river frontage and am getting my 1950's vintage Lone Star resurrected to a duck boat again.......should be interesting.
  12. With the variety of new calibers out there I still find it difficult to jump on the bandwagon and abandon old reliable 308, 30.06 calibers for deer on up. If anyone didnt notice but all those super cool WSM rounds come with a really heavy price tag per box of ammo.
  13. Cans were off limits in Wisconsin last year also, but it does look like they will be back on the menue this year along with a larger limit of scaup.
  14. A few shots at the patterning board would be proof, but for trap shooting standard mod or full chokes always seemed to do the job.
  15. You can get a new barrel for roughly 200 - 250 depending upon the store, then you get the screw in Rem chokes of your choice.
  16. Good point trapshooter. If we are talking about a basic 870 express or a wingmaster, there are certainly different levels of finish between the two with the wingmasters obviously being of far better quality and construction. No much to compare between a Nova and a 870 wingmaster regardless of its age.

    New Crio 28 Auto

I think a lot of skeet shooters like to try the 28 ga, plus it could double as a light weight grouse/partridge/dove gun as well. Super easy to carry all day long.
  19. I cant see why after a break in period that the SBE wouldnt eject light target rounds, its a quality gun so should be fine. I have a SX2 in 3 1/2" and after the first duck hunting season I could reliably run 2 3/4" 1oz load target shells through it no problemo, may even try 7/8 oz or 3/4 oz too. I shoot a skeet weekly with this gun, it has been good to me.
  20. Be cautious of what he whispers in your dogs ear
  21. You must really ink dot em with that mod choke when shooting skeet. Low guage is another interesting change, like 20 or 28 or 410.
  22. I have that same buck gardner call, its a good one. Who cares if it doesnt sound right to you but does it sound right to the ducks??? or your peers.
  23. Vinci shooter, if this is your first duck call I really wouldnt spend too much until you learn to master the basic calls. The call wont exactly make the caller good, it takes a lot of practice and patience for your calls to sound the way they should. My opionion is a higher end call will do a lot more for a more experienced caller. I would reccomend a $20 - $30 double reed call to start out with, you pick your own brand because it wont really matter that much. Its sort of a personal preferrence. If you like the duck commander calls then go for it, just remember kiss - keep it simple stupid.
  24. I dont know if you plan on going alone on this adventure but a good seasoned mentor could be a big help. Forget all the fancy stuff for now, concentrate on the basics. You can decided later what you want or need to invest your time and money in. A good dog is always a bonus, but not a requirment - that dog will put those lost cripples back into your game bag and save you lots of steps too.
