You made a good choice. I have an M2 Field in 12 ga. and love it. As far as ammo for the 20 ga., it's always a good idea to go with Benelli's recommendations: minimum of 2-1/2 dram, 7/8 oz. loads. It's likely that the M2 will operate with a lighter load, but no guarantees. Other than that , it should shoot any factory load you what to use. Good shooting.

First, Benelli makes a Super Sport and a Sport II. The only difference I can see is that the Super Sport has a synthetic stock which allows for the ShellView system in the fore end, which allows the shooter to visually check the number of shells in the magazine tube. The Sport II has A-grade walnut stock and fore end. As far as minimun load Benelli's catalog states "Minimum recommended load, use 2-1/2 dram 7/8 oz. loads in all Benelli 20 ga. shotguns."

Your friend is correct, there would be muzzle flash as well as a louder than average report due to the venting. You might consider the M2 or Cordoba for a gun that's more comfortable in the field as well as very satisfactory at the range. Good shooting.

I think you may have answered the question yourself: the SS fits better. Also the Inertia system on the SS should give you hassle free shooting with less down time for cleaning and maintenance. Combine that with the ported barrel for quick acquisition of the second target, and the ComforTech system and you've got a great gun. If you haven't already, check it out on Benelli's website (benelliusa.com). Good shooting!

Always' ALWAYS, go with what's on the barrel. Of any shotgun. I went to the Benelli website and found it to be perfectly clear. The smooth bore guns are spec'd at 3.5" and under the slug gun it's spec'd at 3". Good hunting!

Benelli recommends a minimum load of 3 drams 1-1/8 oz. for all its semi-auto 12 ga shotguns. It is also recommended that the recoil spring tube, located in the stock, be periodically cleaned and lubed.

Ducks, geese and sporting clays is a tall order for one gun. Since you are asking for a "good" choice and not a "great" choice, I would suggest an M2 Field with Max-4 camo. A SBEII would be a "great" choice for ducks and geese but perhaps a little much for sporting clays. A Supersport or SportII would be a "great" choice for clays but not necessarily for waterfowl. The M2 falls somewhere in the middle. I use one successfully for clays and loaded with something like Blackcloud Premium shells, it will definitely reach out and touch waterfowl. The purists at the clay course might not take you seriously caring a camo'd gun, but when you start knocking down dozens of clays, they'll come around.

MSRP for a 28" SS barrel is $560 according to Benelli's 2008 catalog.
