  1. I will refrain from the toothpaste litmus test. I do not think I will ever encounter that. Every post I have made about the M4 (AR) platform, you have had something snide to say--and that's cool, we all have our preferences. I welcome your criticism of the platform, but I do not think that shoving twinkies in it, or drizzling toothpaste into the action is a realistic criticism. A test can be thought up for every weapon system that will cause a failure. This mimics mud well enough for me:
  2. Twinkies can be a problem. There are more rocks outside than twinkies. Do you know of a rifle that can function with a rock/pebble jammed in the chamber? Should I have bought a knife, or compound bow, instead of a Benelli M4, Arsenal AK, and Noveske N4?
  3. Technically, I should wear earpro, but I fired about 30 rounds without it and was no worse for the wear that I could tell. I could still gently rub my fingers together and hear them a foot from my right (closest the ejection port) ear. To me, as I remember, a .22LR from a Remington 522 BDL (semi-auto) made my ears ring far worse. I fired it once with the switchblock set to "normal" instead of "suppressed", though, and my ear did ring a little from that.
  4. Surefire FA556-212 w/new locking ring.
  5. Finally got it put together. It's neat dumping a magazine of 5.56 without ear-pro and no discomfort. Supposedly not hearing-safe, but I could rub my fingers together a foot from my right ear and hear them. It made my ears "ring" less than those pull-string fire-crackers you had as a kid when you held them at arm's length.
  6. VC-3 Vibratite might work for you. Try it and report back?
  7. The whole thing frustrated me so I put the OEM stock back on and am trying not to think of what the Urbino cost me.
  8. When the piston is fully retracted (as though you have tilted it muzzle-down), it has about 1/3" of "running room" before it slams into the bolt-carrier. If this occurs with it utilizing the full 1/3", it will have built up such speed that the BCG will launch through the back wall of the receiver and end you. Hence all of the news coverage of Benelli M4's exploding in our troop's hands. Please accept my address in lieu of an RMA label. Once that nice Nigerian prince sends me the money he promised, I will refund your shipping cost, and dispose of it properly for you
  9. I suggest using Loctite Primer 7649 with Loctite 242, or instead using Loctite 243. Titanium and anodized aluminum do not play well with un-primered 242.
  10. Well...not so solved. Apparently the Mesa Tactical screw is not fine enough for adjustment, and the stock is either un-tightenable, or too loose, in this configuration.
  11. Yes and yes, but it must stay locked in your licensed C3 dealer's safe, or you will be (potentially) charged with "possession with intent". NFA is a lot of waiting, $200 a pop, and a little paperwork. It's worth it only after you have the item in-hand, but damn if it isn't addictive!
  12. Did you use a flat-head attachment, or what? I think I like Benelli's OEM system the best. So I re-created it by JB Kwik Welding the washer/bolt in place on the Urbino stock. Now it is identical to the OEM stock in form/function. Problem permanently solved. M1014 now field-strips without tools, cannot shoot the stock loose. Thanks goes to Mitch of Mesa Tactical for the idea.
  13. Any issues shooting loose, did you use any thread-lockers, or just torque it down good?
  14. Maybe I do not understand it. I thought 25% was a bit much, but it said it, and I went and verified it at the source. I normally don't use tq values, though, and do not profess to be a professional mechanic of mechanical things.

  16. A torque wrench is -+25% torque sensitivity. I wonder if screwdrivers are better? An experienced machinist manages -+30-35%.
  17. One of many options: http://www.jdindustrialsupply.com/vibra-tite-vc-3-threadmate.html
  18. I had an Urbino stock (well, still do), and found it to loosen up over time. Vibration from firing caused this. Loctite crossed my mind, but is not a good solution for this application, as it is not a "permanent" part, and the screw is a flat-head--easily destroyed compared to hex. Then I chanced across Vibra-Tite VC-3. http://www.sportsmansbenchproducts.com/sites/default/files/pdf/VC-3_byDaveDunn.pdf It's worth a look, and I will be T&E'ing this product on my own M1014/Urbino.
  19. Glad to hear they have arrived! I know what you mean about "expectation/reality", but I assure you that if you sell 'em, we will buy 'em!
  20. In the AM.
  21. Well, not really, sorry However, the burris fast fire 3 with ADM low mount allows the use of irons with the optic in place without being too tall to use with the factory stock. The very top portion of the fsp is usefully visible through the mount/ rail channel. Cheek weld is a bit higher, but not bad at all for me, just change head orientation a slight amount and you are fine, viewing the dot in the lower 1/3 of the window. I have to "find" a cheek weld with the irons, too, so this is no big deal to me. I will verify at the range this zoning week that there is no cheek slap, although I highly doubt there will be. I went with the 8moa dot. At 100 yards, this is 8". Should be plenty fine for slug shooting.
  22. This is normal, now. Soon, it will have peening at the end, and perhaps some roughness/worn appearance to the corner edges on it's last 1/4. The inside of the upper receiver will also have indentations from the back of the carrier slamming into it during cycling. This is its nature.
