  1. While birdshot (in any form) would not be my first choice as a self-defense load, to play devils advocate, I have heard of perps continuing their onslaught after receiving rounds such as 00 Buck and/or .45 ACP. I mean, if say, an individual can "walk away" or survive a brutal attack from a 2000+ lb. Great White shark (yes, a nod to "shark week"), then Im betting there are those among us who could fair just as well against even the mighty 12 ga. loaded w/ 00 Buck or the .45 ACP handgun (certainly anything less as well)...particularly if loaded up on the latest street drug. Doesnt mean they may not die eventually, but they may not be stopped "dead" in their tracks either. Regardless, I prefer Federal LE Low Recoil 00 Buck (9 pellet) for HD...as of now. If I went with something else, it would probably be #1 or #4 Buckshot. But h*ll, Ive heard of peeps being "put out of commission" with nothing more than a .22. You just never know.
  2. Interesting for sure, but Im wondering how practical is it? Im thinking the weight alone, once fully loaded, may keep this item from being entirely useful/practical. Still, if I had money to blow through, I wouldnt mind owning such an item...at least for fun anyway.
  3. Update: $50.00 shipped Fair enough? This shell holder (with screws held "in place" with loctite blue) has seen several hundred rounds or more of 00 Buck and various slugs without budging. Its a tough and well made item. The only reason Im selling it is because I simply do not need it anymore.
  4. update: $30.00 shipped This is more than fair... 200+ rounds without a hitch...its solid.
  5. This is a Tac Star +2 mag tube extension for the Benelli Nova or SuperNova. It includes the spring and is in new condition. I will sell this item for $35.00 shipped. For more info, visit http://www.tacstar.com and look under "magazine extensions." Please PM me if interested. Thanks.
  6. This shell carrier is the 4 shot version from Mesa Tactical and fits the Benelli Nova or SuperNova. It is is "like new" condition and will ship in the box it came with. All necessary hardware is included, along with additional screws. Will sell for $55.00 shipped. If you need more info, visit http://www.mesatactical.com and look under Products/SureShell Carriers/Shotshell Carriers Please PM me if interested. Thanks.
  7. You guys are killing me! Ok, Ill sell the light for $135 shipped or the light + mount for $160 shipped. If you buy both, Ill throw in a +2 TacStar extension (fits Nova or SuperNova) and a Nordic Components 12 ga. follower for free (plus, say, $5 extra shipping cost).

    I stand corrected.
  9. I dont believe in "too much gun" per se, but I do believe in using appropriate weaponry for given situations (tactics and/or sensibilities). Besides, if I concerned myself with the "too much gun" philosophy, I would not be interested in one of these: ...now, compare this to any rifle.
  10. Interesting technique... Still, rifles are too penetrative. Great for rural and/or "open" urban areas, but for QC? Nah.
  11. The AK or AR-15 for that matter, was not included due to vast penetration issues. Very effective weapons to be sure, but also quite unrealistic for HD use, IMHO. Now, if we did not live in such a litigious society, then I might consider such an option. Regardless, if I have time to grab a rifle, then I have time to grab a 12 ga. shotgun. When it comes down to long guns + QC, I prefer the shotgun.
  12. So, Im assuming you are among the "cocked and locked" crowd? Some prefer this method, others dont...depending on various circumstances. For those who keep semi-autos for HD, sans round in the chamber..such as myself, the revolver is much faster. Ditto for a shotgun requiring "actuation" prior to firing. I cant help but think that, during a potential struggle, should the slide of a semi-auto hit a body part upon firing, it would more than likely jam the weapon....not so with the revolver. If 10+ rounds (of the semi-auto) are reduced to one or two, due to some unforeseen failure, then 6 rounds (within the revolver) just may become a Godsend. Not to mention, if someone makes it into the bedroom, I personally feel that the speed of the revolver would trump any weapon out there...unless one keeps their semi-auto with the chamber loaded...no safety or safety off. Now, for "barricade" type situations, Id opt for the shotgun without a doubt...given enough time.

True. But, at least these "hippies" could/can choose to indulge in "mind altering" drugs and multiple sex partners in order to compensate for reality. The rest of us, well...
  14. This is not exactly a "Benelli" specific question (of course), but a question born out of curiosity. Which weapon (in the poll) would you choose for HD if you could only have access to one and one only? Why? Please, no substitutes...pick from these three choices only. Keep in mind the idea of accessibility/practicality concerning close quarters situations. .357 Magnum- Less capacity, very powerful but LOUD...requires little maintenance, minimal ammo compatability issues (if any), more apt to function reliably when dirty, no need for swapping ammo/mags, not affected by "setback" as no round needs chambering, will fire regardless of hold/angle (not inertia dependent), offers the advantage of "point and shoot" w/o the need for "chambering," (thus, quick engagement) .45 ACP- Greater capacity, very effective, requires maintenance, can be affected by ammo (must be "proven"), more apt to malfunction when dirty, possible need for swapping ammo and/or mags (debatable), can malfunction if "limp wristed" or if slide comes in contact with another object, must decide if round is to be chambered or all rounds left in mag (either option can affect speed), if round is chambered enough...it may encounter setback 12 ga. shotgun- very, very effective, heavy, cumbersome, great for open quarters...not so great given tight quarters, requires actuation of pump to load round (unless stored with round in chamber), safety needs to be disengaged (unless stored with safety off), spring loaded feeding mechanism (unless directly dropping one round in the chamber) can malfunction, limited capacity, generally requires regular ammo swapping due to the affects of spring compression on the ammo itself These points are just generalities and keep in mind that I love and use them all. Personally, I prefer the .45 ACP or shotgun (due to their power...and heck, they are fun to shoot), but the .357 Magnum just seems more "practical" when speed/quick attainment/mobility/ease of use/more forgiving maintenance requirements concerning ammo/weapon becomes the primary focus. Hence, for most occasions, the .357 Magnum revolver (stainless finish, 4" barrel) is my HD weapon of choice.

I didnt bother with the link. Personally, Im sick of reading this "anti-weapon" BS which essentially spirals down to nothing less than mindless thug hugging and the inevitable empowerment of criminals. Although, Im not sure how this thread (starting with knives) wound up being about ammo restrictions. However... It would not surprise me if, one day, we are forced to use mere blunt objects for personal protection. Even then, Im sure some type of restriction(s) will be placed on such items. ..Excuse me sir/madam...but do you have a permit for that bat? Is it used for "sporting purposes only?"....ad nauseum. The insane/laughable/pathetic/narrow-minded crap regarding weapons will never cease...nor cease to amaze. All the while, criminally minded individuals will continue using "banned" and/or "heavily legislated" weapons against law abiding (and defenseless) citizens. Politics (not to mention media) at its worst...using, upholding, hiding behind, and abusing First Ammendment rights while defaming, dismissing, misinterpreting and otherwise illegitimizing Second Ammendment rights (while obviously turning a blind eye to rationale/reality/evidence/history). Pure crap.
  16. Solvents should not be needed for this (I tend to think of ANY solvent as "for metals only"). If you do use a solvent, wipe it on lightly and remove it quickly...still, its not the best idea. I personally use Weapon Shield for anything outside of deep/difficult cleaning (metals or plastics). This stuff will certainly suffice when it comes to removing fingerprints and such. Just be sure to wipe off any excess.
  17. Federal LE Tactical Low-Recoil 00 buck (9 pellet)...insane patterns at 35+ yard distances (all of mine being shot out of an 18.5 - 20" "true" smoothbore no less). Good for HD as well due to respectable "follow-ups" (if necessary), coupled with less penetration as compared to "full-on" 00 buck. 1145 vs. 1325...not a huge difference, but certainly a noticeable one (at least in terms of recoil suppression) IMHO.
  18. -update- Will sell light for $150 shipped or light + mount for $175 shipped. Final prices.
  19. Lawndart- You have given me a few things to think about...thanks. Funny stuff... However, Id put my 590 against any Benelli pump...for the next decade or two anyway. Besides, if one cannot afford to and/or find replacement parts at the ready, then this can indeed become an issue. After all, if something on any weapon goes sour and cannot be easily/quickly remedied, you essentially end up with an expensive paper weight. Regardless, I do like my SNT, so I will probably end up keeping it. But, out of all the weapons I own, I still think it would be the first to go due to reasons centering around practicality.
  20. Supply and demand (same with Remington)... Sure, Mossbergs arent as "sweet" as the Benellis but, for instance, you could buy 4 parkerized, heavy walled barrels (nearly indestructable) for the price of one GR equipped Benelli Tactical barrel (assuming you could even find one). This, to me, is something worthy of noting.
  21. Good points...I am wrestling with these. The Benelli was very hard for me to attain, in terms of waiting. The 590...not so much. Also, the Benelli was/is the first shotgun Ive ever truly owned. So, there is somewhat of a sentimental value placed on it. However, I do know that upon selling it, I could purchase an alternate weapon which would be used on a regular basis. Decisions...decisions...
  22. Frankly, better capacity (without needing an extension) and optimal safety location vs. the Benelli. In addition, the bead sight on the A1 seems much "quicker" than the GR sights on the Benelli...for my needs at least. In addition, the A1 parts are much, much cheaper and easier to come by. Hence, I feel better about "wear and tear" and actually being able to afford replacing stuff if need be. Honestly, I believe the Benelli is superior. But, its just not as "practical." Practicality is what I need.
  23. Since I now use a Mossberg 590 (8+1), converted to "A1" standards, I hardly shoot my SuperNova Tactical anymore. Therefore, I have contemplated selling the Benelli. However, seeing as how hard these are to come by, I am somewhat hesitant about selling it even though I never really use it. Anyway, this gun (w/Comfortech stock) and GR sights, just might be up for sale soon. I have a Nordic Components +2 extension installed and I also have a SteadyGrip stock (used as an alternate spare). I guess Im wondering if something such as this is worth holding on to, given my circumstances. Thoughts?
  24. Yes, I still have it (pending potential sale). I will have to investigate the use of this mount along with a Streamlight. So far, this mount has remained secure while shooting. But, this setup has only been on my SG for a short time, so I havent really tested this extensively.
