  1. I cant. But then again, I have yet to claim any have. Its all about heading off Murphys Law, nothing more. Besides, whats $15? Ive seen many peeps pay far, far more for "unnecessary" items concerning weaponry. Sometimes it just comes down to what "feels" right. Besides, Nikolai has more than likely made up his mind on this one. So, I guess arguing against/for its "necessity" is probably mute at this point.
  2. Duggan... I think he, like myself, just feels better with a bit higher quality vs stock, particularly when comparing aluminum to plastic. As I mentioned before, I have heard several accounts of plastic followers, found in Remingtons for instance, failing after a short period of time. Does this mean that those found in the Benellis will as well? Not necessarily, but why take the chance? Its not really about whats better for now, but rather, what may be better in the long run. Shelling out $14 is cheap insurance IMHO.
  3. Heres one more go-around. If any of you were "possibly" interested in the carrier, but not the price, I might consider a reasonable offer. Thanks again.
  4. Just be sure to pay attention to those mounting screws. Plus, consider using Loctite blue.
  5. Will do. One more thing to consider. Since this is an aftermarket item it wouldnt be a bad idea to check for the reliable cycling of rounds, using dummy rounds or snap caps, every so often. I tend to do this post dis-assembly/re-assembly of the firearm using at least 4 A-Zoom rounds (these seem to be, based on what I have found up to this point, the closest to the actual size and weight of 2 3/4" rounds ). I have tried the Pacmayr rounds and they tend to jam up the action from time to time, based on my experience. Of course, this kind of function checking isnt a bad habit to get into regardless of what you have. Good luck.
  6. No problem. But, as I mentioned before, this particular item may not be considered by some as a "necessity". Ive just read several complaints about the plastic followers in Remingtons breaking and thus, jamming the weapon. So....I figured the plastic followers used in Benellis wouldnt fare much better over time. Seeing as how Ive run into the effects of "Murphys Law" more than I care to admit, I went with a safer bet. Oh, and I havent encountered any "flaking" after roughly 50 rounds or so. I guess its possible, but probable? Not sure yet. Good luck man.
  7. Is it worth it? Not sure. But, I can say that I have one of these for my SN and that it seems to be of much higher quality than the original plastic follower. I bought mine due to the fact that I tend to store ammo in my gun for decent periods of time. I have heard that, over time, the plastic follower can be negatively affected when storing ammo in the tube (for HD purposes, lets say). So, it was more of a "better safe than sorry" purchase. Is it truly necessary? I cant say for sure.
  8. I originally purchased this for my SuperNova tactical (w/pistol grip) and have decided that I really dont need it. This is brand new and still in the box. According to Mesa, this carrier will also work with M1, M2 and possibly M3 pistol grip stocks. I paid $44.95 (minus shipping) and will sell it for $40 and pay for any shipping costs myself. Let me know if you are interested and feel free to PM me for more info or if you feel like bartering. Thanks.
  9. This is not a direct answer to your question as I cant speak for the subtleties regarding pellet amount(s). However, as mentioned several times before, just try out different rounds and see what works best for you. I personally use the Federal LE 00-Buck (Low Recoil) as I find that it patterns well for my needs and considering I am using a pump shotgun, allows for faster recovery vs full power rounds. I tend to concentrate on patterning at 7, 10 and 15 yards. Since my shotgun is primarily for HD, I consider distances beyond that (for buckshot) somewhat impractical. And I certainly have never considered the nuances of an 8 pellet round vs 9 or otherwise.
  10. My SuperNova tactical does the same thing. Just a bit of movement from the fore-end and just a bit less from the bolt, but movement for both parts is nominal. The locking head itself doesnt move at all. Either way, Ive never concerned myself with it due to the complete lack of issues after 50 rounds or more. I cant say WHY the play is there, but that it really doesnt seem to be a prob.
  11. Aww..thats cute. Some peeps here just seem to love communication through imagery.
  12. That'll do it then. Thanks for the explanation. But, as I mentioned before, Im not too familiar with shottys such as the Super Sport as I come from the SuperNova (tactical) crowd. Not knowing that the sporting Benellis differed from my SuperNova tactical, in regards to the accessory in question, I took the Numrich site at its word. My mistake. If my suggestion regarding these mag tube extensions proved to be "misleading", well....it certainly was not my intention. I was merely trying to help, nothing more. Guess Ill just remain silent when it comes to the sportys!
  13. Ok, Ill bite. Why do you consider this Numrich ad misleading? You can just explain it to me as Im not very interested in "thinking" about it. The only thing I could find upon looking closer was a possible issue concerning the following "needed" parts: open top forend cap and a ring joining assembly. I did a part# search for these items and found that they were not available for the Super Sport. Or possibly the fact that these tubes are from Daves Metal Works, which frankly, Ive never seen for the Super Sport. Im not sure if either of these reasons match your suspicions, but they still strike me as odd. But, frankly, Im not very familiar with the Super Sport at all. I merely did a bit of "searching" on this guys behalf and wound up at Numrich.
  14. I understand what you mean. Thats why I also keep a loaded .45 ACP around...for greater mobility. Oh, I did forget to mention another good reason for the use of shotguns for HD. Certain loads can still be very effective for HD use, yet be far less likely to penetrate walls vs most HD handgun loads. Just more food for thought. But, shotguns are not very "mobile"..thats for sure.
  15. Ill try to explain this seemingly common mis-conception. Home defense weapons should not necessarily be based on whether or not they have "killing power". After all, you could unload a clip on some people and guess what? They may still be able to effectively harm you by whatever means they choose. Now sure, they may "bleed out" eventually, but not fast enough to keep you and yours out of harms way. This is unacceptable. Here is where the term "stopping power" takes over. Here, the shotgun is dominant when it comes to home defense. If one is shot with such a weapon, they are FAR more likely to be put out of commission almost immediately. Now, are there exceptions to the rule? Sure. But, the shotgun gives far more leveraging power when it comes to "stopping" an opponent vs merely trying to "kill" him. So, to summarize. The goal of dealing with an intruder, should it become necessary to take it this far, is not to merely try to kill him...but STOP him..cold. Shotguns go a very long way towards facilitating this goal. BTW- I appreciate your comments/viewpoints....We all have our ideas about weapons and the use thereof.
  16. Based on what you have presented here, I would strip the weapon down (using the Benelli owners manual as reference) and thoroughly clean it and lube it. I would also suggest taking a close look at the firing pin once you have everything pulled apart. Make sure that it, along with the spring, is CLEAN and then LIGHTLY lubricate it. Then check out its "action", along with the locking head mechanism. Maybe go out and buy a few snap caps or dummy rounds in order to effectively and safely check this (once, of course, the shotgun is re-assembled). In terms of using grease for lube, I would just use a quality synthetic-type lubricant (there are many to choose from) vs grease. Sure, there are some effective grease-type lubes out there, but I feel that unless you are going to be doing a h*lluva lot of shooting or plan on storing the weapon for many, many months, it isnt necessary. But, if you insist on using grease, make sure its a very light coat. In terms of what you were told about "light" rounds..I have not shot anything but Federal 2 3/4" low-recoil 00-Buck through my SuperNova tactical since I bought it brand new. I have run through about 30 -50 rounds so far without a hitch. Now, it may be possible that the ammo you have tried so far just has "hard" primers. But, Im willing to bet that your gun simply needs some attentive cleaning. Give this a try and go from there. If you are still having issues, then my limited guess would be either a weak firing pin spring or possibly issues with the hammer assembly. Even though this is a new gun, its still man made. BTW- Dont dry fire your shotgun without the use of snap caps or dummy rounds. Otherwise, you may wind up doing far more harm than good.
  17. Why do you have such an aversion toward shotguns, or any weapon for that matter, in regards to home defense? Do you honestly believe that keeping a gun in the home, for purposes other than hunting, is criminal or negligent? Please understand that Im not trying to flame you here...Im just trying to gain insight as to why you feel the way you do.
  18. For Super Sport mag extension tubes, try here.... http://www.e-gunparts.com/products.asp?chrMasterModel=4150zSUPER%20SPORT&MC
  19. http://www.urbanertslings.com/slinin.html Once here, scroll all the way down to the URBAN-E.R.T. SIM SLING video. This should give you a decent starting point. Im sure that they offer more solutions. E-mail them....
  20. Are you positive you do not already have everything you need for the install? It would be quite an oversight to not include all hardware necessary for installation. Either way, I would just contact Benelli on this one. After all, its always better to go straight to the source and work your way down from there.
  21. As far as the gun coming with the recoil reducer or Comfortech stock, I would assume it depends on what model you ordered. There are several configs as far as I know. In regards to "breaking in" your shotgun; I see no reason to use the high powered stuff right away. Im not saying that it will hurt anything, but why take any chances? Regardless of what type of ammo you start out with, I would recommend a thorough cleaning prior to shooting it for the first time. Some here say that this is not necessary. While this may be true, based on my experience, its better to start off with a fresh, clean gun than not. Personally, my Benelli had all sorts of crap in it when I first bought it. As a side note, according to Benelli reps, after 20 to 30 rounds or so the gun will be considered "broken in".
  22. Hmm...When I installed my pistol grip stock I just used the original bolt. The original stock the gun came with was the ComforTech stock. Now, looking at the schematics that came with the gun, it appears that this "nut" that Benelli refers to is used for the part# 049D. The schematic refers to this as a "recoil spring tube". Now, when looking at the schematic for the pistol grip and Comfortech stock(s), although no "bolt" is shown, the tube these mount to is referred to as a "stock tube assembly" (part# 166S). Based on the way this part looks when compared to part# 049D, Im thinking both you and I have the former rod (166S)...not the later. I could be wrong, but no schematic I have seen shows any other type(s) of rod other than the two mentioned. Im kinda scratching my head on this one. BTW- Is this for a SuperNova tactical? Its possible that the guys at Benelli simply mis-understood you or that you spoke with someone who hasnt a clue. But, I understand what you are needing. I just cant understand why its proving so hard to find. Have you considered taking the original bolt to a competent gunsmith and seeing if they have one like it? If they dont, Im sure they would recongnize the type of bolt needed. Im sorry you are having to go through this stuff. It has to be frustrating as h*ll.
  23. Understood. I will be firing this stuff through a pump shotty, however. So Im not as concerned.
  24. I have an InSight M3X unit mounted on my shotgun via a Nordic Components rail-equipped clamp. This M3X is a big thing, but it seems to hold well. The only complaint I have is that the beam is more oval than circular. But, I guess it works out as there isnt as much light hitting the side of my barrel. Maybe this is intentional on their part...who knows. Either way, its not too big of a deal. Oh and this is for a supernova tactical..not an M4. But, you get the idea. Either way, InSight is a well-known and respected brand.
