  1. I recently ordered ALOT of this stuff in the low-recoil variety (great for follow-up shots vs full powered loads). I ordered mine from Ammunition To Go....Good thing I got in early as they are sold out now. This whole "Obama" thing has really brought about a sad state of affairs in regards to weapons and ammo. Its unfortunate. But, that topic is for another thread....
  2. Do you not have the original bolt that came with your shotgun? If you do, then it should work just fine. Mine did. If you no longer have this bolt in your possession, I would just go to the source (aka Benelli).
  3. Well, due to the rail on the clamp, I use it for installing my InSight white light system on the weapon. Otherwise, I wouldnt need it.
  4. I can certainly see your point regarding the use of the word "tactical" on this forum. Of course, there are a few times when this word is essentially unavoidable. But, Ill leave that one alone. Also, I will admit that certain members here seem all too anxious to "blow away" any would-be intruder. I will leave that one alone as well. However, I must take issue with your statement regarding shotguns and home defense. Now, its obvious that shotguns are heavily used for sporting purposes...along with rifles. But, this does not simply make them "sport" only weapons. Heck, many peeps hunt animals with revolvers. Should they now consider revolvers no longer "practical" for home defense use? Either way, shotguns are used for home defense because of their excellent "leveraging" characteristics. It has nothing to do, at least in my case, with trying to be macho. But it does have to do with greater stopping power (not necessarily killing power) vs handguns, its forgiving nature vs hanguns when "great aim" is not feasible, and for its effective, well-known reputation (due, in part, to the previously mentioned reasons). These are but a few practical reasons why shotguns make great home defense weapons. Why do you think the military/police find shotguns so effective? Its certainly not because they are great for hunting. Think about it. It is somewhat narrow-minded to dismiss these weapons as merely for hunting or sporting use. This goes double for thinking that anyone who would arm themselves as such is nothing more than a testosterone-laden commando wannabe. This simply is not the case. Regardless, I have no qualms about using a shotgun to defend my family or loved ones. I consider their safety/lives every bit as important as "putting food on the table".
  5. I have noticed some scuff marks/indentations left behind on the barrel and mag tube extension of my SN tactical (black), after using a barrel/mag tube clamp. Now, I can somewhat minimize these marks by applying a fresh coat of lubricant. But, this is only a temporary fix. I am looking for something a bit more effective. Any suggestions? Now, Im not overly concerned about this as Im sure there will be many more blemishes in my shotguns future. After all, I bought it to shoot...not to put under glass. And I realize that the downside of add-ons/bolt-ons is that they tend to be less than kind to various finishes. But, it would still be interesting to know if any "fixes" are available for minor scuffs or scratches such as those mentioned earlier. Thanks again.
  6. I just tried one of those laser bore sighting devices tonight and based on where the dot was hitting, my sights seem off by about 3" to 4" (windage) and roughly 2" (elevation). Now, I was only able to check this at an approximate range of 10 to 12 yards as I was in my home at the time. Based on the instructions, this bore sighting device is meant for range(s) of 15 to 100 yards. So that may have had something to do with the results. Either way, this leads me to the following question. At what range are these SN tacticals factory sighted? Im thinking 25 or 50 yards using some form of rifled slug. Thoughts? BTW- I have ghost ring sights, if that makes a difference. Thanks!
  7. Well, interestingly enough, my second choice would be a Remington 870P. But, I have no interest in wood trim...synthetic black only. Either way, I have heard that most Mossbergs, mil spec or not, are quality guns. I guess it all depends on what you can get and how much you are willing to spend. Heck, I could drop $1200 on a Remington 870P Max, but then I would end up with a shotgun I would want to preserve as much as my current one!! What I am needing here is cheap and reliable. Not necessarily "best of breed".
  8. Im glad to hear they are doing this. Im currently in the process of simply trying to find longer screws for my carrier (for a SuperNova tactical). I wonder if they will allow current SureShell owners to "acquire" any updated screws they may be using in the future. This is assuming, of course, that they will still fit the older models.
  9. +1 on the Mesa Tactical SureShell. These come with their own problems, as any add-on can, but they are of high quality and well worth the price. They are available in either receiver mounted or stock mounted (for pistol grip) form.
  10. When you experienced this, were you using the same ammo as you always have? If not, I would suggest trying different ammo first. If you fire another 30-50 rounds or so and still experience this problem then I would do the Benelli service thing. I really wish I could help you more but Im just not very familiar with the SBE line of Benelli shottys. Sorry to hear about your problems. Good luck!
  11. Cool deal...Does your Mossy seem to be a strong shotgun? I have heard that these guns are made very well, not to mention user friendly.
  12. Due to the fact that Benelli parts are so d*mned expensive and somewhat hard to come by, I thought I might put my SuperNova tactical on "safe queen" status and replace it with a Mossberg for HD and heavy range time. Plus, I like the fact that this particular shotgun has a 9-shot capacity (20" barrel), according to Mossberg. Thoughts? Also, I noticed this Mossberg 590 comes in a "heavy-walled" version. Im assuming this simply means a thicker, heavier duty barrel. Am I right on this? Thanks.
  13. Will firmly actuating the fore-end on a SuperNova Tactical or any pump shotgun for that matter, while no round is in the chamber, damage the bolt, locking head, extractor or any other parts? I will admit, when I first bought my shotgun I did this more times than I care to admit...just "getting the feel" of the gun. Later on, after dis-assembling the gun post firing session, I noticed 2 small wear marks on the front face of the locking head. Whether or not these are normal wear/contact marks, I cant say for sure. Either way, Im just curious about just how much damage, if any, this kind of thing can cause. Ive heard these Benelli pump shottys are quite tough, but Im just wondering how much so. Anyway, I now try always make sure there is a dummy round in the chamber before function testing. I also no longer just "play around" with this thing. I have searched everywhere on the internet and can find no good answers on this.
  14. Out of sheer paranoia, I will avoid posting pics and/or descriptions of weapons residing in my home. After all, you never know who may be perusing this forum! Lets just say that I have enough firearms to make my wife nervous.
  15. Hmm..8,000 rounds eh? I would think its entirely possible, and likely, that several parts may need replacing at this point. In terms of the firing pin...Have you visually inspected it? Its possible that the firing pin spring may be on the brink of wearing out. Firing pins arent too expensive, so it might be a wise investment. In terms of your feeding issue, Im not sure. I would be looking at the mag tube spring first. If not that, I cant say. If you were having FTE probs then, of course, I would suspect a weak extractor/ejector. Anyway, I would think of springs first...hardware second. Kinda similar to semi-auto pistols. Either way, do you have a trusted gunsmith nearby? I would just have him take a look at it and see what may or may not need replacing at this point.
  16. I bought from Cheaper than Dirt once...never again. The ammo they sent me looked like crappy reloads. Meh.. Go with places like Ammunitiontogo.com, as mentioned before. I just stocked up and paid a very reasonable price. Not to mention, they seem to stock hard to find ammunition. Buying ammo marked as "LE" seems to yield the better bargains. Another place to try is gilbertsguns.com. They have great prices as well, but are more limited than ATG. Plus, you have to send them a copy of your drivers license. Id stick with Ammuntiontogo.com. http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/ https://www.gilbertsguns.com/site/info/Ammunition.html

  18. Thanks M....You stay safe as well!!
  19. Do you have an owners manual handy? If not, I would suggest downloading one off of the Benelli website. This will give you some good and accurate info on the various combinations of shims. Also, consider that technique or lack thereof may be at fault here. After all, even though easier to hit with than a handgun or possibly a rifle, the shotgun still requires proper "method(s)" when it comes to shooting consistently and accurately. After all, if everybody could hit point of aim, whether it be shotguns, rifles or handguns, there would be absolutely no need for pracitice!!
  20. Disarming the law-abiding public just for the sake of leaving them without weapons is truly scary. Do they think we are all going to rise up and start shooting cops, innocent bystanders and our families? It would almost be funny if it werent so insanely stupid and scary. Politics.... Didnt Australia go through this as well if Im not mistaken? They, based on what information I have gleaned, banned firearms under the premise that it would alleviate gun related crimes. You can imagine how well that turned out. http://www.geoffmetcalf.com/aus.html http://www.gunowners.org/hlr-au.htm (These are merely the first "interesting" links I found regarding this topic.) Taking guns "out of the loop" will only take us back to the days of the knife, spear and bow+arrow. If Im not mistaken, those can be every bit as deadly as any firearm. This is all ridiculous...absolutely ridiculous. I guess the only alternative would be to defend our homes with compound bows and chainsaws. No joke.
  21. Frankly, Im so sick of all of this worry regarding guns. Yes, I think its a potential cause for concern and yes I am against legislating LEGAL gun ownership. But, if it happens, it happens. Just keep buying your firearms, ammo, accessories, etc. and most of all..enjoy them. Let the future take care of itself. Its not as if we havent been here before...right? I think the most likely areas that would be hit would be ammo cost and mag capacity. Now, regarding a "5" round limit or a complete ban on semi-autos...I just cant see that extreme. Also, banning HP ammo? Id like to think not. In spite of what was mentioned earlier, Im inclined to believe that any quality/current standard vest can deflect most HP rounds (see link). It always seems to be the rifles that pose the majority of problems when it comes to penetrating vests...not handguns or shotguns. If Im wrong here...oh well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulletproof_vest Yeah, yeah..I know its the "choose your own definition" site..but still.
  22. Its me again...Just found a few links for you. Now, as you can see, the trigger guard itself is just over $100 or so. If you want or need the entire trigger assembly, thats what will cost you almost double. Keep in mind, Brownells isnt the only place to get this stuff, but it should give you a starting point. Good luck man. http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=6179&title=TRIGGER%20GUARD http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/Schematics/SchemMFg.aspx?schemid=570
