I guess this is possible. Sick...but possible.

    Yay!!

I ran out of Jergens a few hours ago...all I have left is Hoppes #9...will that work? Well, maybe...but you darn sure will once you find yourself in court and all potential consequences/fees associated with such an event. If you are exonerated due to a clear cut case of self-defense, well...then you have a potential civil suit looming over your head. Defending your life isnt as cut and dry as it should be...not by any means, IMHO. I agree..But, its also wise to make as few assumptions as possible, lest one intends on becoming a potential/repetitive rape victim while a resident of the local penitentiary. I once thought this as well (particularly for shotguns). But, given the additional weight (on top of using a heavy walled barrel) I opted to keep the light off of the SG and just use tritium sights. Sure, target acquisition isnt as available, but at least I know where the muzzle is pointed. Besides, I make sure that there is plenty of illumination (via various lights) throughout the house at night. If it comes down to it, I will grab the pistol (also sporting tritium sights) in one hand and a flashlight in another. Yes, not as convenient as a weapon mounted light, but actually it does provide more options. If nothing else, keeping a light off the weapon (shotgun or handgun) will a). minimize the possibility of unintended fire should something "unexpected" fall within direct illumination as "aiming" a weapon mounted light requires the muzzle to be trained on an object/person as well and b). minimize the possibility of becoming a "target" due to the inability of separating the weapon from the light (thus, creating an origin of illumination which..guess what...you are right behind). Now, Im all for weapon mounted light systems and can see their uses. But, and I truly had to retrain my initial impulses on this, I am beginning to believe that such systems are primarily of benefit in a "search, secure and possibly destroy" type situation (LE, for instance) rather than a "stand and defend" type situation (HD, for instance).

Ahh...good point. I meant, how did he find a picture of my sister. Umm..wait a minute, thats even more creepy. I mean..how did he find a pic of...aww h*ll with it. Guns + well...you know, tends to become the equivalent of "beer goggles" for me. What can I say?

Hey M1014, how did you snag a pic of my wife? Dammit, I told her to stay off of "MySpace."

Depends I guess..but Im no attorney. From what I understand, certain accessories in and of themselves are not always the issue. Its when they are combined with OTHER various accessories that issues may arise. Im not saying that this stock of his falls in this category, but some lawyers, and certainly anti-gun or less knowledgeable jury members, may see setups like this as "joy killing machines," for the lack of a better phrase and therefore, question the mentality of one owning such a modified weapon. Besides, Im sure certain states do not allow certain accessories to be placed on a weapon and if they are (and used on an HD weapon), in essence, the owner would be commiting a felony...even if justifiably defending his life with deadly force. This could lead to jail time.... Regardless of any legalities, also keep in mind that sometimes appearances can make a difference (to a scary degree). Again, Im no attorney so...Besides, I think the stock in question looks cool and should be useful. I didnt mean to branch off into a legal debate as this is certainly not my area of expertise. I was merely making an off-handed comment. You would hope...Then again, there are exceptional prosecutors out there who could ruin ones life if so inclined. Most of us see collapsable stocks, weapon mounted lights, special optics, night sights, etc. as allowing for proper/improved sight acquisition, improved "safety," better handling...whatever. But, to others, such devices merely make an already deadly device even moreso and therefore, they may see such an accessorized weapon as existing for only one reason.. the more effecient/effective means of taking a human life. This is not my belief of course, but it would be unwise to dismiss such concerns as ridiculous (particularly when dealing with an HD exclusive weapon). Would I worry about such matters during or after an HD encounter? Probably not. However, I do tend to keep this stuff in mind the rest of the time. Whether justified or not (when speaking of an HD shooting), I prefer to shorten that proverbial rope rather than lengthen it by having a "tricked out" weapon. This varies, of course, but its a general habit/mindset that I am beginning to adapt to (for various reasons...not all of them having to do with legal matters).
  6. Do you have an Owners Manual? If not, download one from the Benelli website. The manual has a decent "step by step" breakdown on disassembly/reassembly. Below is the link if needed: http://www.benelliusa.com/assets/manuals/Benelli_Nova_Pump_manual.pdf BTW- I personally would not attempt taking apart the trigger assembly...not necessary and certainly not wise unless you know exactly what you are doing.

    Yay!!

I agree...Mine became too much of a burden so it was axed. I spent thousands on that thing; modified intake, GMMG exhaust, short throw shifter, custom emblems, embroidered headrests (the TA bird in silver), 4.10 gears, etc., and countless dyno runs. But, after blowing through 2 sets of gears (the stock 10 bolt just couldnt handle the 4.10s) and expensive timing issues, on and on, it had to go. Plus, I had the bad habit of doing 85+ in various 35 to 45 mph zones (I was younger then, stupid and approached by numerous "victims" trying to prove themselves to me).

A Pontiac guy, eh? Cool deal. I used to own a 2002 Trans Am Ram Air (could pull a 13.1 quarter mile)....man I miss that car.

    Yay!!

It does look "tacticool" to be sure. Now, how does it handle recoil? Also, Im hoping this isnt your HD weapon of choice as Im betting this rig would be a prosecutors wet dream.

    Yay!!

Suchs stock are nice to be sure. But, at roughly 45-50% the cost of the weapon itself...man, thats expensive! Its almost like buying a $12,000 set of tires for my Nissan Titan (using the same percentages, of course). In all seriousness though, congrats on your new upgrade. If you have the bucks, this type of stock does add a new level of versatility.
  11. First off, you can find "tactical" accessories for the nova/supernova at many places such as tacticalshotgunner.com, midwayusa.com, opticsplanet.com, and so forth. However, I must say that adding a light to a gun sporting a 26" barrel may make it somewhat cumbersome when you factor in the added weight of a mag extension..well, a full length one at least. Now, I can sell you (as listed within my ad on this forum) my M3X light w/curly cord remote switch, a mounting bracket for the light and a 2 to 3 shot mag extension (depending on ammo used) for $250 shipped. The mag extension is not quite as nice as the Nordic Components extension, but it should get you started and is practicaly brand new. Now, this particular extension will not extend all the way to the muzzle, of course, but it will add an extra 2 or 3 round capacity while allowing for a mounted light. Besides, if you must put a light on your gun (as is), I wouldnt recommend going with a full length mag tube anyway. Keep in mind, all of these mods you are considering for your Nova regarding the barrel and stock (the light and extension not included) just may end up costing you as much money as a new SNT would or at least real close. Just something to think about. Trust me, I speak from experience on this one as I easily spent over $200 converting my Mossberg 590 SP to 590A1 specs. Had I just been patient enough, I could have bought a 590A1 for much less than the overall cost of my "converted" 590 and saved a few hundred bucks. Im still kicking myself in the pants over that one! Anyway, if you still insist on mounting a light/extension on your current rig or you want one for your second nova/supernova (if you buy one), I can set you up with an inexpensive, quality and complete light setup for your gun. Nothing else needed here other than 15 to 20 minutes of install time. After all, just the light itself, given the model I have, would cost close to $250 brand new.
  12. So, you are essentially wanting a quality HD shotgun for less than $400 brand new? Hmm..honestly, I just do not have enough experience in these matters to give you a "for sure" answer. Still, for that price range, the 500/590 or 870 may be your best bet. Deals are out there, even on new weapons...just gotta hunt around. In order to keep costs low, still have a good weapon w/good capacity and allow for the installation of a light w/out needing to buy an extension tube.....my vote goes for the Mossberg 590 Special Purpose 8+1 (20" barrel) w/front bead sight. All seriousness aside, then you can go out and blow some bucks (as I did) on a heavy walled barrel, metal safety lever, metal trigger guard/assembly and a night sight. Or just buy the 590A1 as I should have done (but I could not find the 8+1 at the time).
  13. I guess it depends on whether or not we are talking new or used. Also, saying which is "best" can be very subjective. Other than the Benelli, of course, I like the Mossberg 590 (particularly the 590A1). The Mossberg 500 isnt too bad either from what I hear. Regardless, both should be plentiful, although the 590A1 may take a bit of searching vs. the 590 or 500. Also, many like the Remington 870 Express, but I dont really care for this gun much and have heard of several issues regarding QC on current models. Anyway, the Mossbergs and Remingtons are usually much easier to find, whether new or used. Of course, you might be able to find a used Nova or SuperNova tactical at a decent price, assuming you dont want to sport the funds for a brand new one. Anyway, Id recommend doing more research in the area of HD shotguns and then, taking what you have learned, go out and handle some of these in person. Decide which one is "best" for you. Until that time, asking which shotgun is "best" for HD will essentially yield a bit of fact(s) mixed in with a heap load of opinion(s).
  14. I agree with just opting for another Benelli (it seems the SuperNova Tactical would fit your needs) vs. modifying the one you have or buying another barrel. Even if you can find a "tactical" barrel, you will pay a premium price (easily $400 and probably more). Best off just to buy the SNT and have one shotgun for HD and one for hunting. Plus, I personally wouldnt feel comfortable having an expensive, chrome lined barrel cut and modified. Just my .02
  15. Yes and yes. Of course, what length of mag extension you choose will depend on the length of your guns barrel. For my SNT (18.5" barrel) I used a Nordic Components +2 extension upon which I mounted my (now for sale) M3X light via the Insight SG adapter. I like the Nordic Components extension tubes. They are pricey, but I (among many others) consider them one of the best made tubes out there. Here is a link for the Nova: http://buy.nordiccomp.com/category.aspx?cid=113
  16. Update 2: The previously used links were broken. I have updated these links, so they should now work. Note: All items were purchased through Optics Planet, therefore the prices listed on the Insight Technologies website may not reflect actual costs.
  17. Update: The original price(s) have been lowered. In addition, the listed prices now include all shipping charges. All necessary corrections to the original post have been made and are therefore current. I failed to mention that the light and mount have only been on my shotgun briefly w/less than 5 minutes runtime on the light. In addition, the RG/LG kit essentially uses a remote backplate/switch which allows for practical use when mounted to a shotgun or rifle and features a "rail grabber" interface. This kit also includes an IR filter. Thanks.
  18. Below are the items for sale: Insight M3X Tactical Illuminator (RG/LG US Military)-: $200.00 Insight SG Adapter for M series lights-mag tube light mount: $35.00 The M3X came with a "straight" cord remote switch. I have since purchased a "curly" cord remote switch (enabling longer reach). Both will be included with purchase. I will sell the above items separately, but prefer to sell as a unit. Note: Prices include all shipping charges. Here are links to these items (previous links were broken): M3X-000-A17: Insight Technology M3X Tactical Illuminator - RG/LG US Military Kit (Rail Grabber option) http://www.insighttechgearstore.com/m3xlogunve.html Insight Technology CFL-900-A1 Shotgun Adapter for M Series Tactical Illuminator Flashlights http://www.insighttechgearstore.com/shotgun-adapter1.html Other items (included with light): Curly cord remote switch: http://www.insighttechgearstore.com/xseries-shotgun-remote.html IR Filter: http://www.insighttechgearstore.com/xseries-flipup-filter.html Please PM me for additional details/info
  19. Your personal choice for practice or HD loads aside, I would strongly recommend you fire at least 100 rounds or so of the ammo you choose to use for HD (for handguns, some arent convinced until they reach the 500+ mark...for shotguns, it probably isnt quite as drastic). Reason is, you should become very familiar with the "pattern" and range of this particular ammo of choice, as fired through your particular shotgun. In addition, you need to be sure that these particular rounds will feed/extract/fire reliably and consistently before you decide to stake your life on them. I guess what Im saying is, dont neglect to make your HD ammo a significant part of your "practice" routine...at least to begin with. Of course, if this shotgun is not meant for HD, then it really doesnt matter at that point.
  20. Ive never owned the M2, so excuse me if this is a dumb question. But, can you not just simply use the stock sling loop plate along with the Nordic Components extension? Of course, when you say "below," Im assuming you mean "behind." Anyway, usually this piece resides behind the mag tube retaining nut (between the nut and mag tube/forend) as a somewhat "free floating" device. Based on what Ive seen, the M2 is no exception. Even if the sling loop plate is somehow anchored to the integral portion of the mag tube, I would think that replacing it would be unnecessary when adding an aftermarket extension. Hence, if you replaced the stock extension with the Nordic Components item, it seems to me that nothing would really change in terms of the sling plate location. But again, Ive never done this on an M2, so Im simply going from pics and possibly flawed logic. Also, the +4 extension will probably extend beyond the barrel. Stick with the +3 or less.
  21. You were right in discovering that ammo size can make a difference. For instance, the other day I tried loading 8 rounds of Federal LE 2 3/4" loads into my Mossberg 590 (8+1) and found that, no matter how hard I tried, I just couldnt fit more than 7 rounds into the mag tube. After measuring a round, I found that it was just a bit longer than the purported size; multiply that by 7 rounds and lo and behold, it came up roughly 1/2" to 3/4" beyond what I would have arrived at if using true 2 3/4" loads. Of course, since this is an HD weapon, I now only load 5 in the mag tube anyway (to minimize wear and tear on the spring and ammunition), hence "max capacity," in this case, is a mute point.
  22. Personally, if I were you, I would keep the ComforTech stock and just buy the SteadyGrip as an additional item. If you have trouble finding one online (although Ive seen many on Ebay), you might consider going through a local gun reseller. Either way, you never know when the ComforTech might come in handy; best to have both...I do. JMHO.
  23. Only if you needed to use a weapon mounted white light system to temporarily blind your intended target and/or had to grab a few shells from a sidesaddle. For all of my shotguns, I stick to Federal LE Low-Recoil 00 Buck (for HD anyway). Girly? Maybe...although to me, there is nothing "girly" about 00 Buck, regardless of form. Either way, I'll take control/follow-up accuracy over unnecessary bruising any day! Sure, I could run 3 1/2" loads through my Benelli SNT or 3" loads through my Mossberg 590, but it would be fruitless. I dont hunt, so anything above 2 3/4" is meaningless to me.
  24. Interesting and apparently, a very effective response to an otherwise ridiculous question. Stuff like this always makes me think of automobile safety for some reason. I mean, after any necessary "training," cannot any "ill-minded" individual still cause just a much death and destruction behind the wheel of an automobile as they could with any "deadly" firearm? Hmm..I guess you could say that anybody with a drivers license could be considered "trained to kill." Blah... Either way, I like that guys response (Ill have to remember that one).
