Guest EllysePerry
Also I would like something where the ammo is readily available, it is hard for me to find bullets for my mauser and they are getting more expensive.
tucker301
Stevens 200 in 30-06 Not only is it economical, but it is also very accurate, as it is made on the Savage action. 30-06 is readily available and economical. http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/STEVENS+200+LONG Edited May 18, 2010 by tucker301
dillonious
why not reload for the mauser? You could get reloading for as much or less than a decent rifle. The mauser action is about the best bolt action ever made and the 8mm round has been used to kill about everything on the plannet short of elephant... GBMotorsports
I personally am a fan of the .300 win mag, but if your looking for something where the ammo is cheaper, the .30-06 would be a great choice. You can find a load combo for pretty much everything in N. America. If your OK with buying a used gun, I would do that. Then spend as much as you can afford on a good scope. Otherwise I would be looking at some Savage/Reminigton rifles. That Stevens Tucker recommended Is built by savage and would be a great, no frills hunting rifle. I know the MSRP is over $400, but all the local gun stores sell them for under $300. As far as scopes go, I would be looking at a Leupold VX-3 or Nikon as they would probabkly be in your budget. Novaking
Savage makes great rifles. 449.00-500.00 range will get you an out of the box rifle that shoots like a dream. Stevens rifles don't have the accutrigger (I don't think anyways) and its well worth the money for a good trigger.
TMAC
A lot of the Stevens model 200's come equipped in a package around here, you usually find them mated with a Tasco or Bushnell scope. I would preferr to just purchase the gun and put a better quality scope on it. From what I have heard this model shoots very nicely right out of the box. tucker301
Two more excellent mid-range scopes would be the Bushnell Elite 3200 series or the Vortex Diamondbacks.
Novaking
Check out the new Savage Edge! http://www.savagearms.com/ msrp is less than the stevens 200 (329.00) and the author from Guns and Ammo says it does come with a OK bushnell 3-9. I like the detachable mag.

Guest Lboongon123
I thought accuracy is in the hand of the shooter? lol. mudhen
I thought accuracy is in the hand of the shooter? lol. So someone could shoot an inaccurate rifle accurately just because of their hand
