M4-Desert Camo Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Got mine yesterday too .... less than a week. Going to put it on my Desert Camo M4 .... probably not this weekend. Quote
3gunner Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Looks good. Mine should be here today on maybe Monday! Do you have any tips for putting it on that fast? Did you have to use a heat gun? I don't have one and was hoping to get away with using a hair dryer... BTW. Great choice of weapons, I also own the Colt 6940LE and recently added the Eo tech G33 and 516, I highly recommend those optics! Quote
calviroman Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Harbor Freight has high temp electric heat guns on sale for $9.99 till late Sep. I got mine today. I did this job once before w/o a heat gun, used my gas stove top burner to heat up the area on the receiver where the tube threads in...which worked but was a PITA compared to a heat gun! Quote

I bought a heat gun from home depot for about $40 then turned it all the way up to about 1500 degrees. I heated it for less than 5 mins & it screwed right out. Then I figured I wouldn't need a heat gun again so I returned it Quote
johnnyjm84 Posted September 7, 2013 Author Posted September 7, 2013 I did suffer a war wound though, as I was unscrewing it my wife distracted me at the perfect time & the spring shot out & gave me a small scratch on my forehead Quote

Maynard Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Got mine yesterday from FFT too. Installed it before work. Definitely need a heat gun in my opinion. Quote

I bought a POS heat gun about 10 years ago at Harbor Freight when it was on sale and I used a coupon. Regular price was $10. I paid $3. Still works fine. Quote
Scout_21 Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 (edited) I did some quick pulses with a bernzomatic propane blow torch down the stock mag tube from the loading port (after removing the sping and follower). Came out nice and easy with no damage to anything. Edited September 8, 2013 by Scout_21 spelling Quote
M4-Desert Camo Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Did mine this morning, piece of cake. Since I had the painted Camo finish M4 I only heated the mag tube and not the receiver. It took about 8 minutes to loosen up but then came right out. I didn't have much of a lock-tite mess to clean up either. The new tube went on like a charm and looks/functions good. Very glad I went with Titanium and not steel. Frankly I like the look of the gray on the Desert Camo model. Quote
