blackpowder1
Hello all Around, In my search for a suitable semiautomatic shotgun for allround multiple purposes I have decided on a Benelli. Having said that, I am still undecided whether to get an M2 or M4. I need to use it for sports, shooting clay pigeons, pest control around my extensive property, occasional hunting, self defence and target practice. That pretty much sums it up. Any comments on the advantages/drawbacks, positive and negative aspects of the two in question? Any opinions out there? Your advice is much appreciated ! jimbo45
The M4 would have less recoil I assume and it will do all of the things that listed pretty well. The M2 is inertia driven so that means less parts on the gun, less cleaning and it should be a little lighter in weight but with a little more recoil. I say start with an M4 then get an M2 later if you want one.
filthy phil
Ive had a 2, Now have a couple 4's I really like the low recoil of m4
StrangerDanger
M2 is faster, lighter and has more perceived recoil. It's sensitive to adding any weight and the aftermarket isn't as mature as the M4. The M2 is cheaper and more sensitive to loads. I'd trust the M4 over the M2 more from a reliability standpoint. So if your threat is bears or people, I'd go M4.
blackpowder1
Many thanks! Ammo sensitivity is an issue for me as I dont always have access to the ammo I want in my remote location. Will the M2 work with lighter 2 3/4" shells in the 3 dram range and also 3" magnum shells with around 4 drams? ?

blackpowder1
ok, after some days of thinking I decided to go with the M2 with choke options. The simpler recoil operated system and easier maintenance swayed me in that direction. I just hope it reliably cycles standard loads in the 3-4 dram range......
