TechnoHal
Hello! I am considering putting the ScalarWorks rail on my M4 and mount a Trijicon SRO. I am thinking about taking off the original sites in order to have a cleaner, less cluttered look. Will this leave open holes? If so, is that a problem? If it does leave open screw holes, are there flush-mounted screws available to cover the holes? Thanks!
Vertigofirearms
Yes you can. We got one member here with rear and front sights removed. There's no screw threads. It is just a hole on the M4, so you would need plastic plugs. Three little holes are not going to matter. Shotguns in general are terribly sealed.
StrangerDanger
Vertigo is correct. Just be aware that you will likely break the tips off of the rear sight housing screws upon removal. Usually they're reusable, but sometimes they're not. Benelli charges like 18 dollars each for them. I never bothered to seal the holes in mine. Never experienced any debris flying out of them.
TechnoHal
Was wondering if someone could post an image of what the top of the shotgun looks like with the sites removed. Thanks for the replies! /H

TechnoHal
Don't happen to have an image of it from the top looking down? Also, do you find the comb of the stock you are using to be sufficient to get a good cheek weld?
TechnoHal
I'm a right-handed shooter with left-eye dominance. Will using a red dot optic help me with quickly acquiring on target? Should I consider a 45 degree left offset rail mount for the optic? Any suggestions is appreciated.
NoTycoon
I removed both the sight and the rail; then, reversed the direction of the rail and cut off the overhang. This puts the optic where the sight was. Yes there are open holes where the rail used to sit. Has no effect.
TechnoHal
Looks like you would have to have a pretty high comb to mount the gun to that site. No?

TechnoHal
That looks pretty good. I'd be looking to fill those holes somehow. Is there a way to do that? Can they accept a short pan head machine screw? Excellent light mount. Do you have a link where I can get it? How is the target acquisition using this set up? Gotta be faster than the Ghost sites. Sorry for all the questions. I'm a newb. Thanks!
Vertigofirearms
If the holes really bother your ocd, you need to 3D print or cut some out of plastic or brass. Otherwise tap those holes and shove a screw in it.
StrangerDanger
You could put a little black RTV inside the hole and wipe off the excess on the top. You could pick it out in the future if necessary.
