  1. sschlicher - good info! thank you! what sighting systems are you guys using?? [ 01-28-2004, 01:32 PM: Message edited by: birddog ]
  2. A couple good 3" offerings are Federals 1oz. Premium Barnes and Hydra-Shok sabots. Remingtons 1oz. Copper Solid sabot. winchesters 1oz. High-Impact sabot Take a look at Remingtons 2-3/4", 7/8oz. Core-Lokt sabot ... it's flying @400fps over the others mentioned above and down range energy is roughly 100lbs better. Same bullet concept as their Rifle Core-Lokt ammo. Winchester has a partition gold at roughly the same #'s I'm not sure on the safety and the spring. hope this helps - Good Luck. [ 01-28-2004, 01:16 PM: Message edited by: birddog ]
  3. A stationary 'flying' decoy. The decoy itself is in a landing position (mounted on a post) that has motorised wings that spin. Here take a look mojodecoys.net
  4. the only .410 gauge model offered by the Beretta group in a youth gun is the Stoeger Single Barrel Classic Youth.

Approximate value will have to be set by someone who can see and rate the condition of the gun. So your best bet is to take it in to a gun shop/smith and have them look it over. everythings for sale ... just depends who's buy'n you'll have a good time getting what you paid for it though...if you paid for it... 7. Hi skeetgirl - Benelli switched production of the special 80 to the super 90 around 10 or so years ago. So your gun is @ 10yrs old or older. Approximate value will have to be set by someone who can see and rate the condition of the gun. So your best bet is to take it in to a gun shop/smith and have them look it over. They'll also be able to look-up the gun in their books and give you a better idea of when it was produced by referencing the serial #. If you have them check it out for you to make sure it's functioning correctly and is operating safely - If it is - take it to the range and shoot it to see if you like it. Good Luck [ 01-23-2004, 03:45 PM: Message edited by: birddog ]
  8. Hi Bob - this may sound like an ignorant question but, have you done a thorough cleaning and inspection?
  9. I'm not sure if he has yet but he said he was going to write and tell them about it. He assumed the thing was going to be trashed and pulled over to walk back and pick up any thing he could've used had something happened to one of the other three. Needless to say he was pleasantly suprized and frankly so am I
  10. no prob. tj we're all in this together.
  11. RIFLED SLUGS!!! in a non-rifled (smooth bore)barrel .... Sabots in a rifled barrel tj mentioned a good slug. I think you're best off for accuracy purposes picking up a few different boxes of different loads by different manufacturers. They all will vary from gun to gun so finding the right one for your gun might take a little bit. $30 dollars invested in this experiment should pay-off. something else to consider too is purchasing some iron sights or a red-dot to aid in your accuracy. Keep it practical! -BSA has a 30mm red-dot available for around $30-$40. -you can find iron sights that will be applicable to your Nova just about anywhere for the same or less money. Good Luck - A pig hunt does sound like a good time!!!
  12. BLKLABMAN - Don't worry about it - convictions run deep and tangents too easy. I don't know about snotty - we've all got opinions - as you see I have my own. We're all friends here that bring different things to the table. No harm in any of it. wouldn't be lookin to get rid of that 32" barrel would you?? haha!
  13. My brother just returned from guiding a duck hunt in Arkansas yesterday afternoon and came over to show me one of his mojo-ducks. It came unshackled from it's nook in the boat and flew out onto the hwy at 75 mph, slid under a pick-up, caught a back tire which flung it up in the air and tumbling through the ditch. the only thing wrong with it concerns the case. Obvious road rash a crack and a small piece of the lid broke off of a corner. supposedly both latches were still closed ... we set it up in the garage and the thing still runs true and doesn't even squeek ... 14. point made BLKLABMAN - we went to different schools together. I've never run into anyone that has had to re-surface anything on an express but if it's happened it's happened. My 12yr old nephew shoots trap and sporting clays with a new express that's been modified slightly but nothing mechanically ... probably over 1000 rnds in the past year - never jambed on him (knock on wood), tubes have always switched well and it patterns with a point of impact that's accurate and consistant. We havn't polished anything on it and the kid does fine with it. just keep it clean and lightly oiled. -- all for $250.00 and change ... [ 01-21-2004, 02:36 PM: Message edited by: birddog ]

  16. "Holy can of worms batman ...." forcing cones? ... starts at the end of the chamber and tapers to the bore diameter usually 3/8" - 1/2" long @ 7 degree angle. Best if gradual 1-1/2"-2" long @ 1-1/2 degrees... this has no effect on cyclic performance of a pump gun at all. choke theads? ... ?? whatever.. as for Milling marks on the inside of the recievers?? ... each cutting head will have different wear patterns and quirks with tollerances measured at thousandths of an inch... yes - they are obviously finished in various materials but the basic platform and action are the same. for what it's worth....
  17. fmsniper - Dang, I hate to hear about guns failing like that but fezman is right. ALWAYS take a back-up. You never know when something might happen. Sad as it is/was that your Nova didn't function correctly when called on - having a back-up would have saved a lot of pissin' around along with vocabulary stints. However - Good luck with Bass Pro and the future.
  18. Sam F - An 870 is an 870 is an 870 no matter how you dress it up or strip it down .... it's still the same mechanically across the board just as most manufacturers models are.

gotchya - it's busting me up thinking of where it was that we went. I do know it was state forest ... but, couldn't say. Also thinking the season dates ran a bit longer too. I don't know ... seems like yesterday sometimes but reality just slapped me. It's amazing how a few knuckle heads can really spoil things when dealing with private land owners. As if things aren't tough enough. It's taken a few times of just going and talking with a few folks and kissing a lil' hinder to gain access to a few spots I duck hunt... nothing a few cups of coffee and some jaw flappin' didn't cure in time. Sounds like you've got a full plate this spring working Doc into am. gun dog ... Good Luck! Wish you success!
  20. I had a problem with my old 870 wingmaster magnum but, it was due to Remington's crimps expanding too much on their hot 3" steel loads... Federals worked fine. Since then I've never had a problem with it. Geeze, I think the guns been in the water more times than I have. Each time it came back up asking for more. a guy couldn't abuse it more with-out cutting it in half. I clean the thing with 87 octane Gas ... it loves it! -6 million+ 870's sold in the past 50yrs -close to 30 different model configurations recently -gauges .410 - 12 -more accessories than carter has liver pills I'm sure the Nova is going to be another 'classic' as soon as it earns it's tenure. to say the 870's junk .... c'mon ...
  21. you shouldn't have any problems with an enamel melting and dripping you're using such a small amount in the first place ...there's no need to 'coat' the thing. painless/inexpensive for what it's worth

fezman - I went to college at F&M in Lancaster, PA from '89-'91. A buddy and I used to grouse hunt quite a bit with descent success when we weren't hung-over. Have you ever thought about taking Doc out and giving it a try or have you already? I don't remember where we were (I'd have to call up Jon and ask) but, we'd swing by his parents place and steal his dad's Brittany along with a gut full of breakfast then head out. I'm thinking it wasn't more than a few hours north of Lancaster... which could mean anywhere i know but i remember Philly only being an hour east of Lancaster on the turn-pike. if we could see straight enough by the time we got out of the truck we had good luck finding birds... just thought you could suppliment your pheasant hunting season with it.
  23. just a thought here ... Take a droplet of paint or nail polish and place it on the knurling of the tubes. - use a tooth pick or something thin. - before it sets blow on the droplet to spread it through the knurling and then let set-up. - a different color for each tube. - as you go make a 'legend' of which color is on each tube. - if need be you can always remove it with a stiff bristled brush and a cutting solution.

I think you're refering to the Nova which in that case I have to agree with you. I've had my wing master magnum since tad was a pup. I'm biased on this one. I like the Nova ... but - I've been through too much with my 870. I've personalized it quite a bit so it's no off the rack 870 but it's definately stood the test. Give The nova the same amount of time in the peoples hands and I think More folks will be owning them. . . . . . the only down fall to the nova that i see at this point is that the 1 piece stock and reciever gives no possible cast options. no 30" barrel option to.
  25. good analogy with the geo metro .. cracked me up! If you ever do take a picture of it .. get it on here I'd love to see it! was wondering about doing it to one for my nephew. He's been shooting an 870 at the trap range and sporting clays course but, I've been thinkin' of doin' up a 2000 for his birthday in may. Planning on picking up a used one. He's 12 so I want to trick it out for him ... colored recoil pad - cut/strip and paint the stock and fore - and I'm thinkin' the reciever thing would be the cats meow... He saw a Benelli all done up at a shoot with his father and mentioned how cool it was. So I'm goin' halfsies with his dad on a little project. Have a good one!
