Who do you think runs Froogle? (Insert slap on back of Gun_Guy's head) Now shuddup and eat your veggies.

    Benelli Nova

Yes, Ben549. The barrel length does matter. Not so much because of the shot patterns, as modern chokes deliver pretty consistent and quality patterns at just about any length. When wingshooting (pheasants, ducks, etc.), the longer barrel gives the shooter a longer sighting plane, a smoother swing through the target, better balance, and a better follow-thru after the shot. Think in terms of pointing precisely to a distant object. The longer the pointer, the more precisely you'll find you'll be able to point. Taking it one step farther, point at a moving object with a short pointer, and then again with a longer one. You should immediately see the difference. Take a few minutes and read this article. http://espn.go.com/outdoors/hunting/s/h_fea_02_long_and_short_F&HN.html

The barrel on the tactical is only 18.5", not suitable for hunting ducks, pheasants or much else. The ghost ring sights would only be suitable in hunting slow moving game like deer and turkeys. My recommendation would be for you get a Nova with a 28" barrel. If you want rifle type sights, then apply any one of a number of aftermarket sights to the gun.
  4. crow, There is an excellent post here regarding proper cleaning and maint. of the SBE's. http://www.benelliusa.com/forums/ultimatebb.php/topic/1/1166.html#000000 [ 04-26-2005, 08:51 AM: Message edited by: tucker301 ]

Don't know what you were buying, but you can find some items on Ebay and others at various online dealers. Try plugging the description or item number into Froogle.
  6. A factory plug is installed to limit the capacity to two shells in the mag. Consult your manual for removal of the plug. Check local laws regarding hunting and posession of the shotgun with the plug removed. PS: Considering the fact that you didn't already know that a plug was present, and the fact that you didn't know how to remove it or where to look for it; I STRONGLY suggest you get back to reading the entire manual. 9. It does state that the slug barrels fit both. Why not take your slug barrel back to the shop for confirmation?

  12. Brownells has walnut stocks for it.
  13. GG, 'Tis you who has walked right into something. mudhen's comment about the barrel was comedic by design and intent. Not everyone suffixes their sarcasm with a "LOL". Have a tremendous weekend, amigo.
  14. Let me ask a question here. What if one of these cannons sends a slug through an intruder, thru some sheetrock, and into another family member? I'm not saying this is the case with you, but I sincerely believe that many clueless people buy home defense weaponry and ammo with a very low level of understanding of how easily their firepower can traverse from room to room; or even from house to house. I'd sleep a lot better knowing that no one in my home was subject to wake up in a confused and startled condition and reach for a shotgun loaded with 00 buck or a hand cannon ready to send 200 grains of hypersonic lead on a millisecond tour of the property. Live by yourself, and no closeby neighbors? No problem. Keep a howitzer by the bedside if it makes you sleep better. In town, with a family? If you must have something to keep you warm at night, make a 12 guage loaded with birdshot. [ 04-22-2005, 09:18 PM: Message edited by: tucker301 ]

  18. A 24" barrel for pass shooting geese was an interesting choice. Most good reports have been leaning towards the Rhino .660 choke for turkeys. For geese, I had good results with the Patternmaster and the factory modified. I wouldn't shoot Hevi-shot any tighter than factory modified. http://www.benelliusa.com/forums/ultimatebb.php/topic/1/1632.html
  19. LOGGER79, If you're comfortable using the RH guns and are used to loading them and handling them, the LH gun is actually going to feel awkward to you. If the only shotgun you're going to use is going to be the new LH one, you'll adjust over time and be glad you switched. If, however, you continue to use other righties, it's probably best to stay with the RH eagle for now.

  21. 10-4 I just personally believe that trying a tom over 30 yards is risky at best. I know people do it all the time, but I'd rather let him get away clean than to cripple him and lose him. I've killed maybe 30 Spring gobblers in my time and I had my second miss (I'm sure a few hit him) last year at 40 yards. It won't happen again. disclaimer: The above comments are my own personal beliefs based upon my own experiences. If you can kill gobblers at 150 yards with #9 shot, then go for it.
  22. The Browning BPS is generally considered to be ambidexterous because of the tang safety and bottom eject. However, we're talking SBE's now. I bought the SBEII in LH and sold my old right-handed guns. If I had it to do over, I'd still go with the SBEII over the SBE. The II features several improvements over the old SBE (not to be confused with the SBEII non-ComfortTech). Crio barrel, extended choke tubes, stainless inertia recoil tube and spring, ComforTech stock, redesigned trigger guard, just to name a few. $1240 is pretty much in line with what I paid at Gander Mtn. Had a heck of a time finding one in stock withing 200 miles of home though. You can search gunbroker.com, auctionarms.com, gunsamerica.com for deals as well. Keep just a few things in mind when buying the SBE or SBEII. 1. The minimum suggested load is 3 drams - 1-1/8 oz., so don't be pissed if she doesn't cycle light trap and field loads, even after break-in. Many do, but there are no guarantees. 2. The black finish on the metal parts will wear and scratch and begin looking like a used gun. Get over it. 3. Accessories and barrels are limited to non-existent for lefties, so decide what you want up front and do the research beforehand. 4. The ComforTech system DOES NOT eleiminate recoil, and 3.5" mags will smack you. 5. Benellis run a higher rib and take some getting use to. A few boxes of clays will get you on track. Plus, believe it or not, shooting a properly setup LH shotgun will affect your accuracy if you've been shooting righties for very long. I even found it difficult to reload because I kept turning her the wrong way.
  23. Nice birds, mudhen! Only thing I've done so far is a jake that was nearly beheaded by the SBEII/Rhino combo at 12 paces. Normally, I don't shoot jakes, but this one was in a spot destined to be a shopping center by next season, so I figured I was doing no real harm.... and he was 12 paces in front of me. Ditto on others comments on the Rhino. Love it! [ 04-20-2005, 02:55 PM: Message edited by: tucker301 ]
