  1. We're a small chapter, but we managed to send them a check for just under 10 grand. We've found that holding it on a weeknight has proven to be beneficial, so as to not compete with other plans. One big plus for us was when the guy who bought the Beretta on the auction immediately requested a second one at whatever price we thought was fair. I was impressed with how much money was spent, given the current economy. It was as though we had tapped into a pent up demand to spend money and have some fun.
  2. Those girls were worth their weight in gold. We did a card raffle with two decks of cards. The chairman was concerned that we may not sell two decks at $20/card. Two girls sold all of them in under an hour. Then he was asking if we could go somewhere and get another deck. The tall blonde did the wingspan raffle. She had them lined up ten deep with money in hand. Poor girl was running out of places to stuff bills.
  3. The only way to completely prevent them from getting on you is to stay indoors when the weather is such that they are active. Not always practical. I don't bother trying to prevent them. But when I think I've come into contact with them I immediately isolate my clothing and wash it, and I take a hot shower and carefully check for ticks on my body.
  4. The photographer seemed to be more interested in the Hooters girls than he was in the guests and prizes, but I really can't blame him on that one. Slideshow
  5. Lead - Copper Plated #4 Buck Non-Toxic - Hevishot Dead Coyote T's No tighter than modified for either.
  6. I don't need you for that! I was wondering when the payback would come. Glad to see you haven't lost a step there, my friend. I was thinking about you the other day. A buddy of mine is making turkey calls, and he's wanting to promote them a bit. I'll try and see if I can get him to send you one to take for a spin and give some feedback on it. He's doing glass, slate, and aluminum. I'll send a PM for the shipping info. if I can talk him into it.
  7. There are two reasons that I said what I did. Firstly, it sounds like you were trying to set up the rep for mob by asking him ridiculous questions in front of an audience. No one likes to be put on the spot in front of a crowd like that. Secondly, the two issues you brought up are not indicative of typical Benelli customer experiences. The Benelli "click" is caused by one single factor - user error. Anyone who owns a Benelli and who uses it much at all should know that you learn what a properly locked bolt looks like at a glance. If there's any doubt, open it an inch and let it go. I check mine when I begin walking into the turkey woods, then I check it again before setting up. Smart hunters make this part of their routine when preparing to setup on a gobbler or when waiting for the next flight. Dumb ones ignore it and then gripe about it being a design flaw. I also periodically check my Browning BAR, AR, and my Savage varmint bolt action when hunting. Call me crazy, but I want to make sure that things are ready to go when go time comes around. Bolt handles flying off? I've heard of it happening a few times, but the more common issue seems to be, "How do I get this bolt handle out? It's so $&%^ tight!" So, what exactly is it that you'd have them do? My own theory is that the majority of lost bolt handles are the result of improper assembly. Again, user error. In the words of the famous comedian, "You can't fix stupid."
  8. I think the answer was befitting the questions asked.
  9. I may be able to help you get it expedited. Please respond to my PM with information requested.
  10. Listen man, I'm sorry you had a bad first experience with your SBEII, but it happens from time to time, regardless of the price of the gun. The 870's one heck of a reliable firearm, but you and I both know that there's somebody out there somewhere who has had one fall apart on day one. They're probably not a big fan of the product either. Like mudlips said, the recoil pad issue is a pretty old deal. I'd check the year of manufacture on that one and see if the dealer gave you a stale one. It could simply be a matter of the thing not being properly installed from the factory, or it could be that someone at the gun store was showing a customer how it pops out, and they didn't get it all the way back in. Who knows? I've never had to put pubbing alcohol , or even rubbing alcohol on mine, and never had a problem. Here's your bottom line. You have one of the best shotguns made, at any price. You just happened to have a bit of bad luck out of the gate. It is a fact that Benelli will make it right, but it may take a few days. This is one area where I think Benelli could capitalize and beat the competition hands down. To me, this should be a dealer serviceable issue. No different than if you just bought a new GMC truck and the left headlight doesn't work. You don't call Detroit... (or the white house ), you call the dealer, and they fix it. Small stuff like this should be the same kind of thing with new guns.
  11. I love pubbing alcohol. It's my favorite!
  12. You can determine the year of manufacture by checking the proof code and matching it to the chart below.
  13. tyson, IP filtering has now effect on these guys. it takes about three seconds to change a public IP, if you know what you're doing.
  14. The profile indicates 9 posts. All are from a span of about 30 minutes today. So I'm not sure any of you would meet the minumu requirements for the rank of detective. http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/member.php?u=24122 The forum spammers know very well that most admins. take the weekends off, so that's when they post their garbage. If you'll simply report the post, the jerk will be removed as soon as an admin. sees the report.
  15. I don't shoot much paper.
  16. Recoil is nothing more than simple physics. The R1 has the Comfortech system, but don't believe all of the marketing statements about half the recoil. The R1 does weigh slightly more, so that will make it kick a tiny bit less. I've had both, but not at the same time. If recoil is a concern, get a less potent caliber like .243 or .308. You'll also want to review the gas piston discussion. http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14472
  17. Yours would be the one that you have. OK. Now that we've gotten that out of the way.... Yes. If it's an HK model, it will have that denoted as such on the receiver, "Heckler & Koch". If it's the SBE it will look like this. http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=144881103 The current version, SBEII can be viewed on the Benelli website.
  18. And the angels did sing.
  19. Not arguing with anyone, but humans killed wild game for centuries before Realtree came along.
  20. It isn't, but that's not what you asked.
  21. Yep. Sounds normal. If the bolt doesn't unlock when it's fired, how are you going to pump it?
  22. Mossy Oak Duck Blind
  23. The Winchester branding simply sold ad space on the packaging. It subsidizes the cost of the product and everyone wins.
  24. Camo is not necessary. I used to hunt turkeys with a shiny Remington 870. I now use my black SBEII. Just don't move when eyes are on you. Either Nova model will work fine. Just choose which one you like the best.
  25. Duck and goose are best when cooked rare. Lack of fat in the meat means it will dry out and become gamy quickly. http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17097
