  1. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=19&t=290776 Many pictures of pelican cases with foam cutouts, and talk of methods on how to do such cutouts. They suggest turkey carvers and band saws, that the pros use water cutters and cnc cutters, and that freezing the foam and using a new razor can also do an excellent job And the 1700's .375 of padding on either side of the case does not really concern me. For one, most shocks come from the bottom, when the case is dropped or moved. Also, the foam inside of pelican cases is relatively airy, and can be compressed pretty easily. If I was really worred about my muzzle being banged up by a front end impact of some type, I would attach a small, thin, really thick foam pad to the side of the case, which would protect my weapon much better than the stock foam. I am not worried about my buttstock taking impacts Finally, this is a benelli m4 we are talking about, not a n airsoft gun. They don't exactly break easily. ...I'll concede that it makes sense to get the 1720 over the 1700. However, I would take the smaller 1700 case and snugger fit over the increased bulk, weight and obviousness of the 1720 any day. [ 08-24-2006, 01:14 PM: Message edited by: Duggan ]
  2. The interior of a pelican 1700 is 35.75" x 13.50" x 5.25" (90.8 x 34.3 x 13.3 cm). That should perfectly fit the m4 if you have the collapsible buttstock collapsed all the way. It is 35 inches. http://www.pelican.com/cases_detail.php?Case=1700 I can direct you to multiple pelican dealers if you wish. http://ishot-inc.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=54&osCsid=d1f11417ab3cc8ae273c70277a35675a That is "the best" soft case on the market. More of a rifle case though ... but with the molle setup, you could attach shell pouches or even big dump pouches filled with shells if you wanted to. http://www.noveskerifleworks.com/cgi-bin/cart2/display.cgi?cat1=19&cat2=24 The depcase is about an inch too short for an m4, but the kitcase coming out will likely fit one ... this is for a serious moving/storage/bombproof type application. http://www.stormcase.com/product_info/indexproduct.html Stormcase makes awesome cases that are on par or better than pelican. The iM3100 is 36.5x14.0x6.0 on the inside, which is perfect. This is all assuming you have the collapsible stock ... if you don't, you have to go up a size.

    Got Ammo?

aha, the 3gungear guy is hilarious.
  4. http://www.benelliusa.com/firearms/slugguns.tpl You're talking about the bottom gun on that list, right? I don't see any "tactical" nova pump slug gun ... the tactical nova is in the special purpose section and makes no mention whatsoever of being a slug gun, although they will still work ... it's just not a dedicated rig like some of the others. As far as the barrel goes, sabout slugs should work well in either barrel, as they are both rifled. The 24 inch barrel will give you a little more range at the cost of a little mobility. I have never gone wild pig hunting, or hunting at all for that matter, so others can help you here much more than I can. As far as optics, it depends if you get a cantilevered barrel or not. With the cantilever, you can use any picatinny 1913 based rings, which are very common among tactical guns and such. If you get the regular barrel, you need to add a weaver rail, and the gun is already prepped for it. I have little experience with weaver setups, so I expect others will chime in with suggestions/corrections to anything dumb I say in my lack of sleep current mode. If you go cantilever (which is what I would do), it really depends how much money you want to spend and how solid you need your optic to be. My top choices would be an aimpoint m3 in a larue mount or an eotech, maybe a jpoint/docter/pride fowler if you are into something more low profile. If you need magnification, there is a huge range of 1-3x and similar close range scopes ... most of these do not have the speed of a red dot though. So, the 3 things you need to determine are your probable distances, which barrel setup you want, and what your operating budget/prefereces are for an optic setup. Remember that you get what you pay for. [ 08-22-2006, 10:20 AM: Message edited by: Duggan ]

    Cool benelli ad

Figures. Oh well, blast from the past. I tried. [ 08-22-2006, 02:44 AM: Message edited by: Duggan ]
  6. http://www.dsarms.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=BT21353&storeid=1&image=btbenhg.gif I've heard good and bad reports on it, but more bad than good. And you need a m1014 for it to work apparently, the later model barrels will not fit inside ... [ 08-22-2006, 02:43 AM: Message edited by: Duggan ]

    7+1+1?

After rereading my instructions, they are not very clear. The simplest way to float a shell is this: 1 - Start with an empty gun, bolt locked back. 2 - Load normally, put a shell in the chamber, release the bolt, fill the tube 3 - Pull the bolt back some, but not all the way, allowing the chambered shell to pop out. If you hold it back all the way, it will hit the lifter again, and it won't work. 4 - While you hold the bolt back with one hand, use the other hand to push a shell down onto the lifter 5 - Allow the bolt to come forward a little bit, keeping the shell pushed down under it. 6 - Put a new round in the chamber, and close the bolt. If I feel motivated tomorrow, I'll make another FAQ picture/video post showing how, and maybe even a live fire demo
  9. Oh I know. The only other option is the B&T rail. Someone seriously needs to step up to the plate and create a good, quality rail that actually makes it to market. How can there not be demand enough? Between civilians who have already shelled out ~1500 for a shotgun to military guys who work with their weapons daily ...
  10. The sidearmor barrel rail will allow you to mount a flashligt. The forward vertical grip is the problem ... the handguards are split in the middle, so you can't use an AR-15 type handguard slim rail that attached to the stock plastic handguards. You can always get the B&T rail ... I kinda gave up hope/interest in the Mesa FCAM a few monthes ago, when information and development seemed to stop for some reason. It would be great if they released it, but normally companies don't go silent when a release is near, they start amping people up for it.

  12. Congrads. Pics?
  13. Sweet deal. I expect you will get a lot of business. Thank you for the excellent product!
  14. Which explains why I have 0 tickets in nearly 5 years of constant high speed driving. Driving fast doesn't mean you drive like an idiot. There is a big difference. It's all about judgement. [ 08-18-2006, 04:39 PM: Message edited by: Duggan ]
  15. http://www.ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=6&f=1 That's the forum. Find the thread.

  17. I know. I stay up horribly late. I work nights, get out at 12-1, and then go out and do stuff. When I get home, I have my internet stuff to attend to ... I can't get enough information, it's a total addiction. Oh well. [ 09-17-2006, 12:56 AM: Message edited by: Duggan ]
  18. A machinist on AR15.com is making and selling full length US made mag tubes, and is currently working on making other US made parts. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=1&t=204051&page=1 You are welcome. Exciting stuff. [ 08-18-2006, 03:05 PM: Message edited by: Duggan ]

  20. 01-09-09 - I'm updating this post to fix the broken pictures from 2 years ago, but for some reason this forum now restricts you from posting more than 2 pictures in any one post. Because of this, I'm reposting this entire post, with updated working pictures, on Pg 2 of this thread. ________________________ Due to this being a common question/issue, I decided to make a thread detailing how best to avoid the legendary "benelli thumb". Go to pg 2!
  21. I just loaded 7 rounds for the **** of it ... didn't get caught at all, or even remotely caught. +1 on the keeping the thumb completely straight. I bend my thumb back if anything. I'll make a vid of the "proper" method (the method that has worked for me for many, many rounds) in a little bit if I feel motivated.
  22. Is the m4 lifter different? I have never noticed anything hurting my thumb when I load shells.

    M4 bird gun

    I don't know about a bird barrel ... but I want a SBS m4 bad.
  24. Come to NY. I see at least a 3 deer a day, just driving, not looking for them. They are bloody hazardous to high speed driving.
  25. The m4 has no longer barrel, as no longer barrel is needed.
