A comment made by one of the member here prompt this thought. An old game keeper friend of mine - if ever a poacher turned gamekeeper it's him - said in his youth they used to pour molten wax into 12g cartridges to keep the pellets in a solid mass. This was then used to shoot deer and very effectively. Now I am not suggesting Bambi or his mates get a 12g church candle injection, however this could be a useful way of sighting a shotgun. Has anyone ever tried it ?? photopro

Needless to say we in the UK got this terrible incident chapter and verse as I'm sure the rest of the world did. Anyone I spoke to regarding this said how they felt sympathy for the family and friends of the innocent victims. You may be mourning in the US but again the UK stands with you. As to the way the students should have reacted - we cannot imagine how they must have felt, most of them with no firearms experience and totally petrified. With the luxury of 20:20 hind sight we can speculated how we would have dealt with it, rushing him when he was reloading etc. However you really can't say with 100% conviction that you would. Self preservation and possibly blind optomism would maybe convince you that he would shoot someone else - not you. As has been said if you knew the script and you knew you were written out in the first act maybe you would do something, as this shows though most people wouldn't. I have nothing but admiration for the old professor who acted the way he did, his family should be proud of him. I would hope that if I was in the same situation I would react positively and "do something" but at the end of the day unless you are actually there you can't say you would. photopro

Tucker, do you have a shooting restriction on Canada's in the states? If so we are the reverse here, we've got squadrons of them. They have recently added them to the "Pest Species" list which allows unretricted shooting if they are causing a problem. They aren't the best tasting bird though I must admit. photopro

I can't remember the stock number but it was called a "Gobble dot" it has a front in red and rear sight in green, something I have never had on a shotgun before. It is very bright though and only cost about $22. The adhesive pad is a very soft black material which sticks like waste product to a blanket. photopro

The front sight on a Benelli is a bit of a joke, I replaced mine with a Turkey sight from TruGlo, they have three (maybe four) different methods of fixing depending on the sight you have purchased. Mine went on very easily and it fixed using a soft adhesive pad. You would probably destroy the sight if you tried to remove it, so it is firmly stuck !! The Benelli sight unscrews very simply on a conventional thread. photopro

A quick way to check this is to point the UNLOADED gun at a friend's nose ! If he stands several yards away he should see if you are aiming high or low as you mount and dismount the gun to your shoulder. If you are aiming high drop the stock - but not by too much. Be very careful using this technique for obvious reasons. Apart from making sure the gun is empty, I always pull back the bolt and flick the safety catch on. photopro

It's good to see a happy ending to this thread. Benellis like any gun take a little getting used to and the extra "kick" is more than made up for with the excellent pointability due to the lighter overall weight. A friend of mine has just bought a Beretta Urika and we did a swap whilst shooting some clays on Christmas Eve. The weight difference is very apparent, and after shooting my Benelli he said given 20:20 hindsight he would have bought a Benelli not the Beretta - and still might !! I found the Beretta recoil has two stages, well that's how it felt, which does explain why it feels softer. photopro

The guy who has the admin access, who changed the filtering wasn't aware of the situation. Tucker and myself and maybe others had emailed requests for a filter rework, hence the comment about moderators. As recently as yesterday further changes were made again not prompted by a moderator. I am aware of forum protocol - note signature - and as an administrator you generally assume things are OK if nothing is said. As for banning the stupid people, I would suggest adding the members who make daft postings but then if we did that there would only be a small group of us left wouldn't there ?? photopro
