Buy an M4. You want a HD shotgun right? Why not select the one the Marines tested extensively and have been using in combat for the last 8 years. One of many You Tube videos
-
Do you mean the old mag tube? Well, pretty easy if you have a heat gun and an oven mitt or a strap wrench. They LokTite the tube into the receiver so you just can't twist it off.
-
Congrats. Enjoy my 5.56s, but something about the 7.62. I don't have mine designated as a bug out rifle or anything due to the weight of the ammo and the mags, but it's nice. Check out Fulton Armory. They have a nice NM titanium nitrite gas piston and an operating rod spring guide that are worth getting Walt has an excellent book of the rifle there too that's worth getting. Check out the AR-15 Armory section on M-1 to see what mags to avoid as well

I hope this is your plan for deer season and not what you use for HD. Don't you find the large structure obstructs your view? Any hot rounds fired through it? If so, how's the mount holding up?

Hookster, Probably just for 922r purposes. I'm sort of a minimalist when it comes to shotguns. I went with an optic, but found the Burris FF the one I like best after trying a T-1 and EoTech prior. Not a big light or laser fan but to each his own. By the way, I have a SOCOM 16 mounted in a SAGE EBR stock. Pretty nice, but heavy. I'm almost positive you'll not get a co-witness on a M-1A. In fact, you need a cheek pad to get a comfortable cheek-wield and alignment with any optic. On my EBR stock, the cheek piece is fairly high. Just the way they're designed. Matt

I installed the one that came in the stock gun in Kips tube w/o issues. I can disassemble the gun by removing the mag and not have to deal with the mag spring unless I want to break out my snap ring pliers. I guess I never noticed the absence of a groove as it seems to hold fine. Probably will disassemble it tonight to install a compliant follower to go with my "Kip tube" and SureFire fore-end that just arrived and I'll recheck it.

It here's but I got in after 11 (was in Dallas) and it's locked-up at my front desk. I'll check in tomorrow night and let you know. Thanks for asking. Edit: Got it on. I like it. Think the std rail guards will do well enough to protect the hands without adding too much bulk. Easy install once I realized I needed to attach it to the barrel and then slide both onto the mag. tube unlike the approach to the std hand guards. Popped in my follower too. 5 min journey to 922r compliance. A good thing. Can I assume the included LokTite was just a gift for use when mounting their light or something else? I see no reason to need the stuff to install the guard. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thank you very much, Matt

Great !! I didn't realize it came with covers. Thanks for the info. The tracking data from Optics Planet indicates it will be here Tuesday.
-
Optics Planet shipped mine a few days ago too. With Kips tube and a US made follower I'm 922r compliant or least a step closer. Any leads on the best place to procure those rail covers? I assume firing a shotgun without them would do a number on your hands.

Many of us lived this scenario a few months ago. You're completely right to be p*ssed off. He sucks as a businessman, but he does make the best M4 mag tube you can buy right now. If you don't have an upcoming zombie fight planned I'd suggest you just go with the flow; it's worth it. I know, it's easy to feel taken advantage of but it's really nothing new and you'll get over it. I hope he digs himself out of this hole because if he brings similar quality to the rail, chokes and bolt handles, I'd prefer to get mine within a reasonable time.

Well, I don't find it a throw back. They may not use cosmoline any longer, but preservatives aren't always lubricants. Additionally, many parts meant to operate dry may in fact be quite heavily treated. I'd never dream of shooting ANYTHING without knowing at least the barrel is clean. I can't recall what info came with my Benelli M4, but I could have sworn it directed a thorough cleaning and lube period the first range session. I can DEFINITELY attest to the fact that FN DIRECTS it be done on all their stuff and I saw no less preservative on my M4 than on a FiveseveN pistol and PS90 that I bought at the same time. Same same for a Springfield SOCOM 16. Furthermore, many people here you also suggest that you very aggressively lube the bolt area during the break-in period. So you're only talking a few seconds to wipe off carbon free parts prior to lubing anyway and running patch or two through the barrel. Why not spend a minute and get off to a good start with your new acquisition?

The truly crazy (and ironic) thing is that only the law abiding are worrying that they'll to jail for the silliness of simply adding two extra rounds to a shotgun's capacity when you can do the same thing to a US shotgun (if it doesn't come so enabled) just because it's made in CONUS. The laws are so f'd up. The acceptance of the bureaucracy though is scary. I recall the coach of my college rifle team, an Army combat hero, saying that the reality is no one would fight or challenge the rules and would turn in their weapons rather than risking peril to their family structure. Personally, I find this a similar attitude. I prefer to stay within the law, but grow some balls, fight the bureaucrats in their own arena, and not roll on to my back and raise my ass and whine that it's not worth 5 years in jail etc. We aren't criminals and we don't have to be pussies either. I want to know ALL the rules and get them explained over and over again. I'll also seek the additional parts to stay totally compliant with the law and flip the bird to the a-holes that are back-handly trying to screw with my rights. Oh, and I'm not planning on abdicating my rights just because someone might unjustly arrest me until they get their act together. That 's a VERY slippery slope.

Lead is denser and better for the intended purpose. I don't think there's a good reason to use steel other than environmental.
-
Waiting for Kip to get his act together and field one done right.

Thanks Ohio, Appreciate you sharing. I have my tube, but was wondering how the other items were coming.

I thought about the RMR but had a chance to put the Burris FFII (what works on the M4) and it's really sweet. I thought I'd move it when a mount for a pistol arrived. Now it's staying put on the shotgun. Love to hear thoughts on the RMR though, especially assessments of the proper dot size.

Bought a T-1 on a LaRue mount for my M4. Was hoping for Kip's rail before mounting it. Unsure if it's a bogus complaint (poor install?) or real, but pics circulated showing damage to the rail/mount in this pairing. Of course, LaRue claims their mount works great on the M4. Anyway, I held off from mounting it and moved the T-1 to an FN PS90. It just makes more sense on that and put a Burris FastFire II on the shotgun. I find it a much sweeter set-up and less money. Prepared to buy whatever works best, but in this case I find the less expensive option is better. You might also consider the new smaller EoTechs and Trijicons. They all sit very low and don't block any field of view.
-
Anyone use or know of anyone using a Burris FastFire sight on the M4? Picked one up for a pistol, but am waiting for the associated mount. Popped it on the M4 as an experiment and it's pretty sweet. Very light and sets low. I figure that even with the less than optimal rail this would hold up well. No range report, just did a quick laser bore sight.

This doesn't support what I read elsewhere, shotguns not mentioned. From their website: In the United States, FN is represented by two entities. FNH USA, located in McLean, Virginia, is responsible for sales, marketing and business development with the U.S. military, government agencies, law enforcement and the commercial sector. FN Manufacturing, located in Columbia, South Carolina, is the U.S. manufacturing arm of FN and is currently producing M16 rifles, M249 light machine guns, M240 medium machine guns, FN bolt-action rifles and FNP pistols. FNM is one of only three manufacturers designated by the U.S. Government as the domestic industry base for small arms production. Sharing design, engineering and manufacturing expertise with FN Herstal in Belgium, FNM’s reputation for quality and reliability is clearly demonstrated by the fact that 70% of the small arms used by U.S. Forces around the globe bear the FN name. I'll keep looking. Edit: From another FN board: "I emailed FNHUSA and they responded that the FN SLP is manufactured in Portugal and the USA if that helps this discussion." and "This is probably your answer. FNH is now making the SLP in SC to comply with the 922r law. The barrel is on the list of 922r compliance parts. They are probably now using barrels that are made in the good old USA. Most shorter US made shotgun barrels are 18.5" long instead of 18".
-
Let me try to find it and I'll post or give you the website. As I recall it was a discussion not unlike this one and the FN SLP wasn't "foreign." I see no way they could be circumventing rules Benelli has to live by. I almost bought an FN instead to avoid all this 922r nonsense, but couldn't find one in stock anywhere. I'll be back. By the way, FN in the US is far more than marketing and sales. I know the SAWs and other other military weapons they make for the US military are built in South Carolina. I used to work in USMC legislative affairs and was friends with the FN lobbyists. Shot the P90 and FiveseveN at their Fredericksburg VA facility along with their bolt-guns and 50 cal MG the Marines ended up buying for aircraft use.
-
They don't import it, it's made in South Carolina. I'm sure this is a reason why too.

For any idiots out there who still think birdshot is effective
BigHat replied to Unobtanium's topic in Benelli
Well another week and another potential dust-up brewing. The cast of characters have changed to some extent, but as always, Unobtanium and Duggan are involved. Time for some "Mod magic" to delete this thread to help some refocus on Benelli shotguns. -
No secret handshake I'd bet, he's just trying to get things back on track. One wouldn't think there's a monster demand for M4 parts, but apparently there is enough to keep him super busy with tubes alone. No one I'm aware of was gotten any of the other parts in the queue: no std picatinney rails yet to replace the marginal one on the M4, no muzzle brakes (aside from a couple of pics) and not even a pic yet of a charging handle. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. All of the above parts I WILL buy from him, but I can understand your frustration as I had a good dose of it a month back.
-
What he sends is first rate. That's pretty good, but his strength obviously isn't running a business or managing employees. I personally wish him much success in getting his sh*t together. Hope to buy much more good stuff from him.
-
Thanks. Actually, I have no intention of mounting a light, just trying to "get legal." No surprise that what a engineering giant like FN opted to use was probably pretty good. Oh wait, look at the rail.
