  1. Thanks Unobtanium. Glad to help out if needed. I think you won't have any issues on a mag tube. I've done a couple of the newer ones including the receiver extensions on new production M4's for refinishing jobs. I've never had to go nuclear and break out the MAPP torch for a magazine tube. NP3+ on the receiver extension and plunger is nice (the weapon is more forgiving on low dram anemic loads afterwards due to lower friction coefficients than the bare stainless tube offers.) I haven't had any issues getting them apart, or more importantly, reassembling them properly. For the Limbsaver pad, the collapsible stock adds some complexity if the end user cares about having the weapon fully collapse. The bracket in stock form is a poor fit too. It needs some love from a file to make it fit and center up over the mounting holes properly. Try to force it, and you'll break a screw off in the stock. Anyone who who shoots the M4 with heavy loads should get themselves a Limbsaver installed. I'm not recoil sensitive. I found follow up shots are faster and there is less barrel disturbance from the recoil profile. you can also shoot a lot more before your shoulder is sore.
  2. Buy with confidence. I've purchased from the OP recently. The product was exactly as described and promptly shipped.
  3. It might work, but it would be less than ideal. Generally you're better off sourcing an aftermarket spring from a place like Wolff.
  4. The Carriercomp muted finish is close but not exactly the same as the NP3 finish. The Freedom Fighter Tactical NP3 finished magazine tubes are their steel variant, so you won't get the weight savings that the titanium tubes offer over OEM. Another issue is, batches of NP3 vary from one to another. Most won't care about the slight difference unless you're seriously OCD, but it is one nonetheless. Another option is to take the Carriercomp tube and have it coated in NP3. I'm doing that currently for a client. Robar says the NP3 doesn't adhere to titanium, but I know several people who have done it successfully. A nice NP3 finish on the inside of the magazine tube is going to sound and feel quite nice compared to the scratching sound of steel wire spring on the inside of a tube. This picture compares a muted finish carriercomp magazine tube to a stock that I had coated in NP3. If you don't want to do a coating, I'd still go Carriercomp muted finish all day long.
  5. It might work, but I wouldn't recommend it. I am not a fan of the OEM magazine spring. They take a set and loose tension rather quick. Semi autos to have a significant amount of tension to deliver the round to the carrier during the fraction of a second that the bolt carrier is cycling. In the thread about the Limbsaver, I posted a video in slow motion. You can see how fast and chaotic the cycle is. The shell elevator flaps like a bird thru part of the cycle.
  6. Be careful cutting the spring. Every coil you clip compromises the overall tension of the spring.
  7. It's very minor along the bottom. I'd say under 1/8 of an inch. Well worth the realistic 40% reduction in felt recoil. Stiffer the round, the more it excels. Modified mounting bracket.
  8. Much appreciated guys. I will also do collapsible stock conversions to the Limbsaver system. After testing it, I can say it's a huge improvement over OEM. And yes, the collapsible stock will fully collapse.
  9. Item arrived this evening. Exactly as described and promptly shipped. Much appreciated.
  10. Your needs should be covered. Now you can focus on wants. The only shell carrier I recommend is the 3 gun gear Velcro card system. The other add a ton of weight and thickness to the receiver. I find loading from California competition belt mounted speed loaders to be much faster. I like the following: TTI replacement shell elevator Dmw oversized safety Gg&g oversized bolt release Ava Tactical Light Mount IWC MOE rear QD sling mount Blueforcegear VCAS padded QD sling Meprolights night sights Scalarworks top rail if you want to go the Trijicon RMR route FFT trigger and disconnector as good Geiselle hammer
  11. Good deal! Common issue is to seat the spring retainer too deep. You want that retainer touching the bottom of your mag cap.
  12. While you're at it, try installing the spring without the spring retainer and see if it gives you enough room for the seventh round.
  13. Any time. ATI will probably come and throw a tantrum at me again. Without a doubt. The M4's a slightly overweight platform to begin with. So any time you can chop weight, eliminate a corrosion point and end up with a magazine tube that matches the shotgun better than any other offerings is a win. Their magazine spring is the best one out there and the follower is great too. The only bad is they can take a while to get. I spoke with Marcy today and she said they should be down to the 3.5 month time frame now.
  14. You chose wisely. Go see HK and get an OEM collapsible stock, then get yourself a Carriercomp magazine tube/follower/spring. Throw in a Geiselle hammer and a FFT trigger and disconnector. You'll be set for 922® compliance. Avoid the picatinny rail mounts that attach to the magazine tube or replace your forearm. They complicate disassembly and add a ton of weight. If you're looking for a weapon light mounting solution, look no further than Ava Tactical.
  15. Unobtanium did a good write up at another site here: http://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=361581 He has a couple pictures showing different springs and gives the diameter spec of the spring itself. He indicated that the Carriercomp spring should be 33" when new. The diameter of the spring wire should be 0.041"
  16. Thought I replied to this last night. Must not have sent. Another thing you can try is to seat the spring retainer so that it is sticking out of the magazine tube. That way when you tighten the magazine cap, it will push the spring retainer in as deep as necessary. As an experiment, try removing your spring retainer completely and just fight the spring in under the magazine cap. Then test to see if your shells fit. As Benelliwerkes outlined, just because a round says it is 2 3/4, doesn't really mean they are. Tollerance stacking can lead to an issue where you come up a fraction of an inch short.
  17. Fully assembled. Fasteners supplied by Noveske are a 3mm allen screw. I recommend using Locktite primer and blue 241 Locktite on the fasteners.
  18. Cut/Filed areas were hit with Aluminum Black. Mounting hardware installed. Fasteners treated with Loctite primer and blue 241 Locktite used on the fasteners.
  19. Here the edges of the bracket are cleaned up with a sanding belt. I then radiused the edges for cosmetics and to remove sharp edges. I then used a finer grit sanding cloth to polish up the edges. I sanded the tip down to allow the bracket to fit better within the collapsible stock. Removing a small amount of material permits the bracket to center of the fastener hole better.
  20. Drilling at an angle probably isn't needed since you're only going thru about 1/8" of material. I did another one tonight. I used a standard set of drill bits in the drill press, I stepped up a few times from a 1/4 - 1/2 to hog out the material. I then switched to the Forstner bit to take it the rest of the way to 7/8". I returned my drill press vice since it sucked. I plan on buying an XY axis vice for it soon. So I just did the drilling by hand. I lifted the work up into the Forstner bit slowly and hogged out the material. It was centered on the 1/2" hole already so it didn't try to grab much. See how the bracket doesn't like to align with the fastener holes? Taking some material off of the bottom of the bracket will allow the bracket to center over the fasteners. Here I have a rough outline of what I need to remove. Markings were done with a silver sharpie.
  21. Time to take a ride over? The issue would be quantities. I'd guess it would take a while to even move 50 units. I'd be in for several units.
  22. Interesting development. Hope to hear more. I've used their SCAR products before as well. Good stuff.
  23. Payment sent. Much appreciated.
  24. I'll take it if I'm first. What method of payment do you accept?
  25. I don't think IWC gave a torque spec, so I just tightened them firmly with the blue locktite and primer. Wiggling the fasteners in can be a bit tight. Glad you got that mag tube in!
