  1. On another topic, my friend and business associate in Australia reported to me the other day some exploits with the Benelli M4 I assembled for him. As well as being a licensed dealer in Australia, he owns an invasive species eradication company in New Queensland. While most control is conducted via controlled poisons, many of the animals are dispatched with firearms. The feral pigs that are causing significant amounts of crop losses and causing damage to waterways are dispatched with the Benelli M4. Primarily 2 3/4" buckshot. My friend indicates that in almost all cases, these are one shot kills on various size pigs up to around 250 - 300 pounds. He indicated that the M4 has performed flawlessly since deployment. Not a single failure has been encountered. This M4 started out life as a factory H20. I then took various parts and aftermarket components and coated them in NP3 to match the H2O. This M4 has a Scalarwork's top rail with a Trijicon RMR RM06 optic along with an Ava Tactical weapon light. Trigger pack was upgraded with a TTI shell elevator, TTI oversized safety, FFT Trigger, FFT Disconnector and a Geissele Hammer. The entire trigger pack itself was coated in NP3. The trigger pack felt and functioned incredibly smooth. The only part avoided was the Geissele Hammer. I had concerns about tolerance stacking of the NP3, these concerns have been unfounded so far. In the future, I think I'm going to coat the hammer as well to reduce the friction coefficient between the bolt carrier and the hammer during the cycle. Yes, even the screws that hold the RMR to the rail were coated in NP3.
  2. Bighat, Yep. I've done a few of the M4's for clients who want someone to get in between the coating company and them. I feel the same way about having a general gunsmith do the reassembly. There are a lot of areas that are botched and overlooked on the M4 when it comes to properly reassembling the weapon. Lots of potential fail with the receiver extension and various fasteners in and around the weapon. Improper torque specifications being followed or not even bothered with. Incorrect use of Loctite products and primers to ensure the best, reversible hold on fasteners. My only caution is, while I am fast at what I do, coating and painting places are notoriously slow. I have a large batch of parts in with Robar right now since November. They indicate it won't likely be returned until the end of February. As slow as they are, they do have the best coating solution out there in my experience. They even offer the ability to paint the exterior other colors so you aren't stuck with a matte nickel finish. They also do as I ask, and coat extremely small parts for corrosion resistance and cosmetic appeal. I have done a few OEM collapsible stock's that have the body, screws and all metal parts coated so that they matched the H20 version of the M4.
  3. The shortie is identical to the shortened length 5 round tube. So you get the weight reduction, correct color match, corrosion resistance, increased value, and perfect platform for an eventual NFA shortie M4. They're 4.25 ounces vs. whatever the factory steel one weighs. The cockblocker will screw right onto the end of the carriercomp one to meet your capacity compliance requirements.
  4. You need a carriercomp SBS 14" magazine tube to pair with that crappy cockblocker.
  5. Extensions are not 922® compliant. You would have to meet your parts count with other accessories. Generally, you're better served with a full length magazine tube. I dislike the transition point within the tube. The spring tends to get hung up on it when dropping the spring in. Carriercomp titanium magazine tubes tunes is the answer you seek. It'll literally increase the value of your weapon.

  7. Thanks. This receiver is going to Robar to get turned into a H20+. So I wanted to get the modifications done before sending it out. I do like how all the edges were beveled off. I think I did a pretty good job at putting the gradient slope into the transition. The main area removed is perfectly flat.

  11. Today's project was to modify my 11707 M4's loading port. I had watched several users do similar modifications on the M2 platform for 3 gun competitions. I figured it would be something that would port over to the M4 well. After doing a bit of layout with blue painter's tape, I went to work with a large flat file. I removed about 0.25" of material from the bottom of the loading port. A large flat file spanning both sides of the port helps to keep a nice flat even cut. After working the surface down, I beveled the edges with the file, then switched to a dreaded Dremel with several sizes of sanding bits. I opened up the inner port by removing material at a steep angle towards the rails the bolt carrier rides in. I then opened up the front mouth of the loading port a little. I then used several grades of sandpaper to knock down the edges of the compound cuts. Now, there are no sharp edges anywhere within the loading port. When combined with the TTI elevator, this makes for a really nice loading port for speed loading. I can't say it's a night and day difference, but you definitely have more room to get your thumb inside.
  12. Always a pleasure to rebuild these guns the way the client wants. I look forward to do the work as much as if I was working on my own weapon. I really like making these older M1014's the way they should have come from the factory.

  14. Honestly, how can anyone hit that pressure switch where they put it? Unless you're Andre the Giant, it's not happening.
  15. Price is way too high for an extrusion. Plus it looks very uncomfortable and has proprietary linkage for their rails. An open design on the M4 isn't a real good idea either since the ARGO system vents in there. Hence when you disassemble the M4 after firing a few hundred rounds and find powder residue all over the inside of your handguards. I've seen a few stippling jobs on the Handguard that came out well. I had a set painted in burnt bronze on the inside of the vents for a while.

  17. Nice job on that tailcap Chief. I had the BLAM4 mount before. I found it to be rather limiting when it comes to sling options and what kind of light/light activation method you're using. I ended up cutting the mount down and turned it into a QD mount by drilling a hole through the bracket and mounting a IWC QD sling mount into it. I used it until the Ava Tactical mount was released.

  20. I've paid more and gotten less with other light mounting solutions. I think I paid nearly the same amount for the Surefire M80 rail, and hated it. The price is high, but you are buying a quality made CNC machined item made here in the US. These aren't extrusions like most of the other offerings. Plus this won't interfere with disassembly of the weapon like most of the other options out there. Get the carriercomp spring/follower and preferably one of their magazine tubes. My older setup, the Surefire Outdoorsman body/tailcap and a M600C Scout head. I've swapped the head for a 500 lumen M600U head. Currently it and the mount are out being painted in Burnt Bronze Cerakote. Here is a M600C 200 lumen head's barrel shadow. The 500 lumen model is similar, you just have a further throw. In the field, I don't even notice the shadow.
  21. What you seek is the Ava Tactical light mount with a Surefire Outdoorsman body and tailcap, then a 500 lumen Scout light head. It won't interfere with disassembly of the weapon. It's about as light as physically possible. It holds the light in the perfect position for momentary/constant activation.

  23. Carriercomp specs their own from Wolff as does FFT. Generally, everyone prefers the Carriercomp.
