  1. I would never use water and rags/paper towels to clean the metal of my gun unless I just dropped it in mud. Even after doing so to remove the mud, I would begin using the M-Pro 7 to clean the gun followed by oiling the gun. By the way, Shooter Choice FP-10 is licensed to use FP-10. FP-10 and Shooter's Choice FP-10 ....The "FAQ's" Tom Knapp of course recommends the Benelli oil that comes with the gun, but more importantly, he gives his reasons for avoiding certain oils in the thread super gets stuck . In your case, you want to remove the heavy factory oil and replace it with the gun oil you plan to use. Do not use water to clean the gun. Here some links to purchase gun stuff: Bass Pro Shops Brownells Cabelas CheaperThanDirt.com Gamaliel There are other websites, but these are a good start. I have no idea what he meant by standard choke. Did your M1014 come with a manual? The manual on my SBEII describes how you can tell which choke is in the gun without removing it and for the chokes that are not in the gun. For example on the SBEII: Full----------------- - 1 Notch or * on the side. Improved Modified - 2 Notches or ** on the side. Modified----------- - 3 Notches or *** on the side. Improved Cylinder - 4 Notches or **** on the side. Skeet-------------- - 5 Notches or ***** on the side. The SBEII manual has the Cylinder listed as Skeet, however if you look at the choke tube with 5 notches or stars, it is marked "CL" for Cylinder. Check out the Benelli FAQ which will answer the question regarding which choke to use for slugs. No mention of what is the tightest choke you can use with OO Buck shot for any Benelli models. While you are on Benelli's website, check out the Troubleshooting section. Since I do not own the M1014, I cannot answer the other questions on this model. Have fun on Monday at the range!
  2. benddg, With the plug in, how many 3" shells can you load in the M2 magazine? My SBEII with the plug in the standard magazine tube will hold in the magazine tube (I think; it's be awhile since I put the plug back into the gun): (2) 3 1/2" (2) 3" (2) 2 3/4" Without the plug in the standard magazine tube, I can load into the SBEII magazine tube: (2) 3 1/2" (2) 3" (3) 2 3/4" Edited to correct my original posting. I had the wrong numbers when the plug is in the standard magazine for the 3 1/2" & 3" shells. [ 08-14-2004, 11:52 AM: Message edited by: threeshot ]
  3. Welcome new owner. My answers to your questions (other people will have differing opinions ): 1) Yes. Clean everything you can when you field strip the gun. 2) I only went as far as field stripping the gun. See the thread SBEII Clean & Lube Procedures should help with your cleaning and oiling question #2. 3) I field strip the gun each time I shoot the gun. I clean all parts and re-oil with a layer of oil. I add a drop or two the rails that the bolt assembly slides in on the receiver. 4) I do not know the M1014 model, if you are having problems removing the bolt handle, use an old pair of shoe strings. Wrap around the base of the bolt handle and pull. 5) I use M-Pro 7 cleaner and FP-10 for oil. I use Birchwood Choke Tube Lube on the threads of the choke tube. You can search google and find websites that sell these products. I recently purchased briley's chamber brush to help clean the chamber and the stubborn carbon fowling in the choke tube. I purchased Slip2000 Choke Tube Cleaner to help me reduce the amount of time I spend cleaning the gun. While the choke tube sits in the solution, I am busy cleaning other parts of the gun. I prefer an all brass-cleaning rod to avoid damage to the barrel. I have one for many years and I believe you can still get them today. 6) I have no experience with sidesaddles. 7) Kolpin. I like the padded flat barrel end so I can store the gun barrel down to keep oil from settling in the receiver. 8) For shot shells, I prefer Winchester over Federal (smokey & dirty) and Remington (not sure why shot shells look like tracers at the indoor shooting range). 9) To my knowledge, you can only order magazine extensions. No replacement magazine tubes that is longer than the original magazine tube. 10) I see no reason why you could not purchase it as long as you do not install the telescoping stock. Enjoy your new gun. [ 08-14-2004, 10:18 AM: Message edited by: threeshot ]
  4. Thanks Drundel. I am currently working on putting 100 rounds of the Winchester Double X Magnum Turkey loads through my SBEII. I usually put 20 rounds of the 3" and 20 rounds of the 3 1/2" rounds in a shooting session. That's all my shoulder can take in a shooting session. Only one more session and I will have a grand total of 100 rounds (that's counting both the 3" and 3 1/2" shells fired). The reason I am trying to get to 100 rounds is due to the recommendation in the SBEII manual. Of course the manual states to use "standard hunting loads" for the 100 round break-in. Upland04 put two boxes of the magnum loads through to break-in his SBEII. anybody shot your sbe2
  5. coltchris, I see that the address you were told by Customer Service to send your trigger assembly to is the Warranty Service address. Not sure why some folks were told to send to one location versus the other.
  6. crazyhair, I am not sure what e-mail address should be used for Canada. The only suggestion I can make is to use the Contact Us at Benelli USA website. There you will find the Customer Service phone number or you can click on the State in the USA that is closest to your city in Canada (These are regional Customer Service e-mails). Best of luck. 7. coltchris, Is that the address given to you by customer service for the trigger safety spring replacement? I was told to send my trigger assembly to the address listed on Benelli's Contact Us website.

    SBE II problems

JAF, Hopefully Benelli is addressing the issues noted on this forum. After all, why else would Benelli put up a forum for their customers to talk about their products and customer service? The problems I noticed on my SBEII, in no particular order, are: 1) Barrel Manufacture Bare Metal Defects? 2) Very Stiff SBE II Safety 3) sbe II choke wrench problem? Someone posted Choke Tube Threads Rust on their gun. My SBEII did not have rust on the choke tube threads. Benelli is allowing owners of SBEII & M2 shotguns to return their trigger assembly in order to replace the trigger safety spring with a lighter spring. Stiff Safety - Benelli Response I had my trigger safety spring replaced and I love the trigger safety. No word from Benelli if or when the factory guns will come with the lighter trigger safety springs. I contacted Benelli customer service regarding my choke tube wrench not fitting my full choke tube. The wrench will fit all the other choke tubes except the full choke. Benelli offered to send me a new full choke tube and a new choke tube wrench. The new wrench is the one on Benelli's accessories website with the thread cleaner and not the one that came with the gun. Someone posted that the thread cleaner will not completely reach all the choke threads on the crio barrels. I have not tested the thread cleaner being able to reach all the threads in the SBEII barrel. I need to remember to check this the next time I clean the gun. I received the shipment three weeks after I talked to Benelli customer service. I like to think of it in terms of a new car model. The first year car model usually has some flaws that get fixed in the second model year. Sometimes it takes three or four years to get all the flaws in design and/or manufacturing resolved. Sometimes never. Caveat Emptor. I am sure all the issues will get fixed. It is a question of when. Benelli does not want to risk ruining their reputation and incur the cost of labor and materials for fixing the guns after they leave the factory.
  9. Drundel, How many rounds do you start to consider a lot? Just trying to gauge what you consider a lot of rounds. Thanks
  10. Here are the suggestions I have in no particular order. 1) Clearly state what needs to cleaned and lubricated once the gun is field stripped. Show where to apply the oil. i) For example, apply a light layer of oil on all metal parts. On the slide rails where the bolt slides into the rails, put a couple of drops of oil in each slide rail and point the gun up to allow the oil to go down the length of each rail prior to reassembly. [*]2) Clearly state in detail the choke tube cleaning and lubrication procedures. Including how tight you should tighten the choke tube.[*]3) Using the specific gun model, use high quality (not poor lighting or tiny images) pictures of the gun to illustrate each step in disassembly and reassembly. Not the cartoon pictures that are currently in the manual.[*]4) Provide tips to make disassembly and reassembly easier. Examples on the SBEII: i) Using an old shoelace wrapped once or twice around the base of the bolt handle and pull. ii) Reassembly of the trigger guard assembly. The front of the trigger guard has a lip that attaches to the outside and on top of the receiver, and then you sort of hinge the back of the trigger guard downward into place. [*]5) Providing step-by-step procedures for cleaning and lubricating the recoil tube assembly including pictures of each step.[*]6) Provide the Benelli lightest ammunition load to use for the gun model. i) For example on the SBE (and I assume on the SBEII) the recommended minimum is 3 drams using 1 1/8 shot load. ii) Include the warning that you have on your website FAQ for the question of “What is the lightest load that my gun will shoot?”. (Modifications such as backboring, etc). [*]7) Parts inspection during cleaning and oiling the gun. What is considered normal wear and how will it show visually on various parts?[*]8) Include from the Benelli website the Troubleshooting section in the manual. 11. First off, I want to say that this thread is not a Benelli bashing thread. I have read in the various threads on this forum a consensus that we want Benelli to improve their manuals. Since Benelli has created this forum to get customer feedback, I would like the Benelli owners to make suggestions in this thread of what improvements we want made to the Benelli manuals. This thread will provide Benelli with the suggestions we offer to improve the manuals. So what are your suggestions for improving the Benelli manuals?
  12. I have a difficult time getting the bolt handle off my SBEII. Try taking an old pair of shoelaces and take one pair of the shoelace and wrap it once or twice around the base of the bolt handle and pull. Works for me.
  13. NewMexico, A friend of mine sent his M1 in for repairs. Like you, he got a notice from Benelli in the mail that the time of his repairs was going to be X days. The funny thing is, the same day he got he note from Benelli regarding it was going to be X days for the repair, he had an UPS attempted shipping notice on his door. Yep. It was his M1 already returned from Benelli. I guess Benelli is giving the worst case scenario. My trigger spring replacement was very quick. Benelli got my trigger assembly on Wednesday and I would have got the assembly back on Friday except my fault for providing my home zip code to my work address.
  14. LBDB1A, I researched the FP-10 and Militec-1 a couple of months ago. I summerized my research in the post: SBEII Clean & Lube Procedures Here is FP-10's 4 Product Corrosion Test with instructions of how you can reproduce their test. Tom Knapp of course recommends the Benelli oil that comes with the gun, but more importantly in this thread, he gives his reasons for avoiding certain oils. super gets stuck I decided to use FP-10. 15. For those that have received their replacement choke tube wrench with thread cleaner, does the thread cleaner work with SBEII?
  16. calwidgeon, I was in the same predicament. The thread SBEII Clean & Lube Procedures should answer your questions. Regards, threeshot
  17. Quick turnaround on the replacement trigger safety spring and I love this trigger safety spring! This is the kind of trigger safety that will allow me to disengage the safety as I am shouldering the gun and sighting. Montefeltro, thank you for getting us the replacement trigger safety spring!
  18. My Benelli Synthetic Super Black Eagle II (SBE II) came with: * 1 Plastic Breakdown Case * 5 Cryo Choke Choke Tubes * 4 Choke Tube Plastic Holders * 1 Choke Wrench * 1 Drop Change Kit (Drop & Cast Adjustment) * 1 50ml Benelli Gun Oil * 1 Use/Maintenace Manual * 1 Spare Parts List Manual * 1 Warranty Registration Card Mine was missing the four choke tubes and the plastic choke tube holders. The gun dealer had to open another SBEII box to replace the missing chokes which were in their plastic choke tube holders. Before leaving the gun store again, I checked to make sure that all five choke tubes were different. Full----------------- - 1 Notch or * on the side. Improved Modified - 2 Notches or ** on the side. Modified----------- - 3 Notches or *** on the side. Improved Cylinder - 4 Notches or **** on the side. Skeet-------------- - 5 Notches or ***** on the side. Also, check that your choke wrench will fit the full choke. See topic sbe II choke wrench problem? for details. My replacement choke wrench should be arriving soon. 19. The phone number I am aware of is: 301-283-6981 from Benelli's Contact Us link.
  20. Mentefeltro, What is the purpose of the [email protected] AOL account at Benelli USA? I would have thought that Benelli USA would have an e-mail addresses like the examples listed below for customers to send an e-mail: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected]
  21. I hardly think the people that have been posting on this forum about their safeties being to stiff are the type that cry anytime they chip/scratch their nails loading a shot shell into the magazine. BTW, did these “smaller” people bird hunt? Did they understand the meaning of being able to get the safety quickly disengaged as they are shouldering the gun at the same time swinging the gun onto the moving bird while trying to keep a steady aim? Sorry forum members, I had to get that off my chest. Montefeltro, I do not work for Benelli and I have no idea what is Benelli's typical length of time for performing research and testing for a problem of this nature. Can you provide this forum with a timeframe for the research and testing at Benelli for the stiff safety? [ 07-09-2004, 08:36 AM: Message edited by: threeshot ]
  22. Laz, I understand you are P***ed-off at Benelli for not responding to 10-15 of your e-mails. I think anyone on this forum having that experience with Customer Service of any Company would be unhappy. If your e-mail program (MS Outlook, etc) were setup to keep a copy of “sent e-mails”, then I would recommend forwarding your previous e-mails to Montefeltro explaining that you have not received a response. I would not believe anyone telling me they never received 10-15 of my e-mails. If you are given that explanation from Benelli, then I would send another e-mail and CC or BCC my Yahoo or work e-mail account. That way you will know that the e-mail was successfully sent and that Benelli cannot say that they are not getting your e-mails. Either you need to switch ISP’s or Benelli needs to upgrade/change their e-mail systems if they are losing customer’s e-mails. I have heard of some companies CS staff deleting e-mails when they get behind in responding to customer e-mails. Let us hope that is not the case at Benelli. Best wishes. 23. Geno, I tried your suggestion of using the "small" end of the handle of the choke tube wrench on the full choke. This does not work for me on my SBEII full choke. I tried to use the "large" end of the handle, that works better until you attempt to perform this on the gun as the choke tube recesses into the barrel about 1/16" or 1/8". Then using the “large” end of the handle will not work. I will go ahead and state the obvious, I check the SBEII owners’ manual and using the "handle" end of the choke tube wrench is not the proper method for tightening the choke tube.
  24. I got out the full choke to my SBEII and the choke wrench that came with the SBEII. My choke wrench will not fit in the full choke to be of any usefulness. There is no way I will be able to use this choke wrench to tighten the full choke within the barrel. It does not appear to be limited to the SBEII based on Geno's response. Is anyone else having this issue and with which gun model?
  25. Laz, Did the gunsmith say why it would be bad idea to cut a coil or two out of the trigger safety spring?
