  1. According to m2benelli on SGW, yes. http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?p=205105#130275
  2. wallhanger, I would go with BirdDog’s advice without the steel wool. Then if you still have rust on the barrel, I would take Benelli up on their offer to return the barrel and allow them to fix the issue. Perhaps a posting from someone that has been there and done that (with steel wool). Rust Cleaner? Regards threeshot
  3. I own an SBEII and I can load shells into the magazine when the chamber is closed or loaded. Here is my loading procedure. 1) Safety first, you should have the safety engaged and the gun pointed in a safe direction when you chamber a round. This is to avoid killing/destroying something due to an accidental discharge. (Mechanical issue caused the firing pin to strike the primer versus negligent discharge caused by you pulling the trigger when you did not mean to pull the trigger.) 2) Pull the bolt back into the rearward position and let it lock in the rearward position. If the bolt does not want to lock to the rear, be sure that the red dot on the cartridge drop level is not showing by pressing it upward on the right-hand side of the trigger guard (it's the shiny metal showing at the front of the trigger guard.) 3) I drop a shot shell into the open receiver and release the bolt via the carrier control button on the right-hand side of the receiver. 4) Now I load shells into the magazine. Do not ease the bolt forward to load a shell in the chamber. I did this and I was unable to get the shell carrier to move completely downward to load shells. I was able to get about three quarters of the shell into the magazine when the shell carrier prevented me from going any further into the magazine. The solution is let the bolt slam close by pressing the special carrier control button on the right-hand side of the receiver. That solved the problem I was having getting the shell carrier to move fully downward while I was trying to load a shot shell into the magazine. If the method I described above does not work on your SBEII, I would request that the gun be returned for repairs. Regards, threeshot [ 09-18-2004, 10:37 PM: Message edited by: threeshot ]
  4. You can get the EasyHit beads at Brownells although not as cheap as the other websites listed in the posts above.
  5. While purchasing my SBEII, the gun shop sold me the Butler Creek Rifle Sling in Black. The UPC code is 51525 81013 This model has: Uncle Mike's QD Super Swivels size 1" Shock Absorption Quiet Silent Pad Non Slip Grippers to keep the gun on your shoulder Quick Adjustment Strap The clips fit on my SBEII. By fit, I mean that I have put the sling on my SBEII to see that the sling clips fit on the gun. However, I did not keep the sling on the gun nor carry the gun with the sling. So I cannot vouch for the comfort or tell you if there would be any issues when carry the gun. I could not find the exact model matching the UPC label from my sling, however, I believe the links below are the same one I own. In the pictures from the links below, my sling is the far left one in black with three large loops. I cannot see any difference between the Rifle and Shotgun other than the price. 6. kyamch, I purchased Retaining Ring Pliers at Sears to remove the magazine spring seal ring. It has two small holes in the seal ring that the retaining ring pliers can be used to squeeze the ring so you can remove it from the magazine. Be sure to wear eye protection while you perform this operation. There is a lot of spring tension behind the seal ring and if you are not very careful, you will have the seal ring, spring and the shot limiter plug flying in all directions. I once attempted to remove my magazine spring seal ring without eye protection (I had done this before) and was using the same procedure when the seal ring slipped past my thumb. I was fortunate that all the flying parts missing my face. Needless to say, I wear eye protection while removing or installing the magazine spring seal ring. 7. Hello Drundel, One item about Numrish Gun Parts is they buy new & used parts. Sell Your Parts To Us When I looked at a couple of Benelli parts, it did not tell me if I was buying a used part or new part. Does Numrich tell you if the part is used? Thank you, threeshot
  8. Depending what you are looking for in parts, you can use the following websites: Cal's Sporting Armory Tom Knapp Store
  9. Regg, It appears that ATK owns a group of ammo manufactures. The link below to the article in Guns&Ammo gives a good history of Federal. Federal Cartridge Company: 80 Years Young Regarding shot shells, I prefer Winchester. A friend and I were at an indoor shooting range with our shotguns. He had boxes of Remington and Federal Target/Game Load shells. I had Winchester Heavy Dove load shells. (3 drs 1 1/8 oz) To me, the Federal shells are just dirty or smoky when fired. The Remington shells looked like tracers when being fired down the indoor range. Regarding the ammo, I say use the ammo that patterns well for your gun and choke combination along with the desirable traits of cycling your gun reliably. Regards, threeshot
  10. Mark, I am happy with the following products to clean and lube my SBEII. M-PRO 7 to clean the gun. I purchased Slip2000 Piston & Choke Tube Cleaner and use FP-10 for oiling the gun. Shooter Choice is licensed to use the FP-10 oil. You can get FP-10 Lubricant at Brownells stock number 934-110-004. CheaperThanDirt also carries the FP-10 oil. BTW: Are you talking about the outside of the barrel or the inside of the barrel? Hope this helps. -threeshot
  11. I searched both Benelli and Federal websites as well as Google for the reasons for this relationship. The Federal website does not promote Benelli firearms. This leads me to the conclusion that Federal (ATK) made financial payment(s) to Benelli to have Benelli promote the Federal ammo for their firearms. Also, Benelli’s exhibition shooter, Tom Knapp, is promoting Federal ammo. To me, it is a marketing ploy by Federal to make people associate the high quality of Benelli with Federal ammo. Benelli = high quality = Federal Like Pavlov's dogs, you are now supposed to be salivating for Federal ammo.

  14. vizsladog, The lighter trigger safety spring will reduce the noise of the click. Regards, threeshot
  15. upland04, Have you tried Birchwood Choke Tube Lube ? I know it's a lube, however, it is a paste lube that might help prevent the choke tube from coming completely loose. [ 08-28-2004, 09:51 AM: Message edited by: threeshot ]
  16. Last weekend I completed breaking-in of the SBEII with a total of 100 shells of the turkey loads. It seems that other SBEII owners shot the turkey loads during the break-in period so their gun would shoot lighter loads. Of course, I was using the minimum load (3 Dr. at 1 1/8 Oz) when the gun jammed, it will be interesting to see if the SBEII still jams when using the minimum recommend load now that I have completed the turkey load break-in. I will update this thread at a later date with the results of shooting a 100 Winchester 2 3/4" with 3 1/4 Dr. Eq. at 1 1/8 Oz during a session. [ 08-28-2004, 07:47 AM: Message edited by: threeshot ]
  17. 1) The SBEII manual recommends shooting three or four boxes (75 - 100 shells) of "standard hunting loads" (whatever that means). If you want to shoot lighter loads, the concensus is to use heavy turkey loads during the first 75 - 100 shells. I put 50 shells of Winchester Supreme 3” with Max Dr. Eq. At 2 Oz and 50 shells of Winchester Supreme 3 1/2" with Max. Dr. at 2 1/4 Oz. 2) Check that your factory choke wrench fits every choke. See sbe II choke wrench problem? thread. Also see Stiff Safety - Benelli Response thread. 3) The Benelli website has an FAQ section. So the official minimum load for the SBE (and I assume SBEII) is: 3 dr with 1 1/8 oz load. I agree with you regarding the online or downloadable manuals.
  18. Same behavior for SBEII model. [ 08-26-2004, 07:38 AM: Message edited by: threeshot ]
  19. chiro, I hope it is your choke, however, Benelli sent me a new crio full choke and a new choke tube wrench. The original choke tube wrench that came with my SBEII gun did not fit the new crio full choke. The new choke wrench Benelli sent to me is the one listed on Benelli Accessories web page. See the thread sbe II choke wrench problem? .
  20. I had recently purchased two Briley Chamber Brushes to help clean the chamber area and choke tubes on my SBEII. They are the E-Z Chamber Brush & Chamber Brush at MPC Sports . I used them for the first time yesterday. The bristles on the Chamber Brush model are very stiff to the point of unusable. The E-Z Chamber Brush bristles are what I consider enough force to clean without causing undue pressure against the barrel. Both the E-Z Chamber Brush and the Chamber Brush from Briley are too short to be used as chamber brushes on the SBEII. As you know, the top part of the receiver is part of the barrel on the SBEII and it adds an extra approximately 8 inches to reach the chamber. The handles on both chamber brush models do not allow you to push the brush into the chamber without the handles needing to be in the top half of the receiver. If you do continue to push, you are going to have a very difficult time removing the brush since you cannot grip the handles. In summary, Briley E-Z Chamber Brush Pros 1) The bristles are the correct stiffness for cleaning the chamber or choke tube in my opinion. Cons 1) Too short for SBEII. Briley Chamber Brush Pros 1) None. Cons 1) Too short for SBEII. 2) Bristles are too stiff for my comfort.
  21. I think this website has what you are looking for at Cal's Sporting Armory
  22. I use Birchwood Choke Tube Lube for the choke tube threads and FP-10 oil on the rest of the gun metal. By the way, Shooter Choice FP-10 is licensed to use FP-10. FP-10 and Shooter's Choice FP-10 ....The "FAQ's" I put a layer of FP-10 oil within the barrel with the choke removed, including the area where the choke tube resides. Then a layer of FP-10 oil on the entire removed choke tube. You then add a bead of Birchwood Choke Tube Lube to the front of the threads of the removed choke tube (front being the threads that will first engage the threads in the barrel) and screw-in the choke tube and tighten. I was with a friend a couple of weekends ago shooting at an indoor range. He was shooting Federal Trap&Game Load and Remingtion. For shot shells, I prefer Winchester over Federal (smokey & dirty) and Remington (not sure why shot shells look like tracers at the indoor shooting range).
  23. I am leery of using a drill with brass or steel brush to clean my gun. fsh4eye, you may want to purchase a Chamber Brush for cleaning not only the chamber, but for cleaning the choke tube while using your favorite gun cleaner. I purchased Slip2000 Choke Tube Cleaner to help me reduce the amount of time I spend cleaning the gun. While the choke tube sits in the solution, I am busy cleaning other parts of the gun. It will remove the worst of the carbon/plastic fowling.
  24. What cleaner are you using to clean your gun and choke tube?
