  1. I know little to nothing about them. I know I've never seen one at a match. I know that you almost never see them mentioned on the boards regarding serious accuracy. .308 is not a big caliber
  2. Inertia Pros: Clean and simple - few moving parts and no carbon build-up as gasses are not routed through the system Reliable under varying conditions - a properly cleaned and maintained Inertia system will typically cycle more rounds without a hiccup than will a gas system. Lightweight - Fewer parts means less weight Shorter forearms - Since there is no gas system pistons, rings, etc., the forearm on an Inertia gun can be made shorter. Cons: May not cycle light loads - Benelli makes it quite clear that their systems are not designed to handle the lower recoils generated by light trap and field loads. These loads simply do not create enough energy to cleanly cycle the system. Possible failure due to improper operation - Users can shoot loads near the minimal range and still have problems if the gun is not shouldered properly. There is also the possibility of a failure due to not having the bolt fully closed and rotated. This typically occurs when the user has tried to "ease" a round into the chamber without making much noise, such as when setting up on a close gobbler. Possible failure due to bumping and handling - Because the bolt does not "lock-up", a firm bump on the butt of the gun may allow the bolt to back up just enough to create a light primer strike and misfire. Seasoned Benelli shooters on the move learn to give the bolt a visual check and a firm bump when there's a break in the birds flying. Less recoil reduction - An Inertia gun delivers the full amount of the discharged shell's energy back into the stock. Inertia works on recoil energy, and there is no gas system to vent any discharge energies into a piston. The shooter can add mercury recoil reducers or other recoil scrubbing devices to help with the heavy loads, but again these devices may raise the minimum load that the gun will cycle, due to the added weight. Gas Pros: Reliable and versatile - A gas system can be metered or adjusted to cycle anything from the lightest loads to the heaviest. As long as the system stays clean, it will perform. Inherently less recoil - The system routes some of the discharge gases back into the piston to cycle the action. Since this energy never makes it to the muzzle, recoil is reduced in a manner similar to porting. Cons: More cleaning - A gas system is subject to require more cleaning. The discharge gases and unburnt powder are routed through the barrel ports and into the piston and rings. With each firing, more carbon and impurities are introduced into the mechanics that cycle the gun. More parts - More parts to clean. More parts to break. More parts to lose. Heavier - The gas system adds weight. While it helps with recoil, it's not welcomed on a long hike through a swamp or a grain field.
  3. I'm very much aware of what the Marines use. They don't use off the shelf rifles, however. Contractors use the base Remington actions and little else to build the government's goods. What I am saying is that pound for pound, dollar for dollar, and shot for shot, you cannot buy a more accurate out of the box production rifle than the Savage. They're not as refined looking and they can be a bit clunky, but the SHOOT. But don't take my word for it. Read how factory Savages swept the Hickory Egg Shoot this year. "600-yard World-Record-holder Terry Brady gave us a call this morning and reported: “You may not believe it, but a factory Savage won it all this year at the Hickory Groundhog Shoot.” Terry said it was raining through much of the event, and many of the custom rifle shooters had tight groups but were not centered up on the target. This is a score event, with concentric scoring rings on cardboard groundhog silhouette targets at 100, 300 and 500 yards. The overall match winner shot a Savage factory.223 Rem varminter, according to Terry. “A couple of them Savage guys had their groups nicely centered up on the targets, and that’s what it took to win.”
  4. I don't think I'll ever buy another Remington. Not as long as Savage keeps doing what they're doing. Makes no sense to spend $100 - $200 more for a rifle that doesn't shoot as well.
  5. 1 MOA is their minimum standard. Imagine Benelli making that kind of promise
  6. Teal and resident goose seasons are upon us! So it's time for this season's pictures thread. Dove hunters feel free to post up as well. Have a great season, and in the famous words of Sgt. Phil Esterhaus, "Let's Be Careful Out There".
  7. Good eye! The FNAR is based on the Browning BAR action.

  10. Welcome! Glad to have you on board, Rob.
  11. I do use stock springs and have no problems. I must be missing your relevance, because I saw no mention of aftermarket springs in the OP.
  12. I agree that Benelli standing behind a product from 1989, YEARS after the warranty has expired, is more the rule than the exception. I agree that some folks get a bad gun every now and then, but Benelli will handle the problem if they are given the opportunity to do so. I further agree that some folks simply don't know how to maintain nor use a Benelli, and that ID10T error applys not only to computers, but to other products as well.
  13. Don't quit your day job.
  14. You mean like this? or this The R1 would have some serious catching up to do.
  15. No. 2 MOA accuracy isn't sniper class It loses zero when the barrel is removed. Its gas system fouls horribly. Its trigger pull is akin to that of a windex spray bottle.
  16. It gets easier with practice. Pull the bolt back about an inch and it will pop right in. No need to bang or bump anything on the floor. SBE Cleaning Guide

    Oiling SBII

No, it isn't. No heat required for changing the shims and locking plate.
  18. Just check with any gun shop that mounts and boresights scopes. They'll most likely have the plugs in abundance.
  19. I tigged the slot so I could float one. I posted pictures a couple of years ago.
  20. What he said. You cannot get a featherweight gun and expect it to not kick. You can add mercury reducers and make it heavier and that will reduce recoil, but then you have a heavier gun anyway.

    Dear Benelli

  22. What are people doing to keep the recoil pad from falling out? Never had a problem, so I guess I'm doing nothing to keep it from falling out. Is the oil that comes with the gun any good, or is there a prefered aftermarket product? The Benelli oil is a CLP. It's OK, but there's not enough to last a responsible gun owner very long. If you decide to start cleaning your guns, you'll need more. Break-free or Hoppes Elite work well. Do I need to coat this gun with oil to prevent rust? Yes. I just want to hear the truth about the metal on the gun. The truth is you need to take care of this and every other firearm you own. If you hunt in wet weather, the gun will need to be disassembled and cleaned and lubed. For fair weather hunts, a quick field strip and cleanup will do. A quick cleanup takes about 5 minutes. A full cleanup takes about 10-15 minutes. If you ignore these truths, your Benelli will most likely begin to rust.
  23. Someone on another forum stated that the Cabelas line of tactical flashlights are exact duplicates of the Surefires. Parts even interchange.
  24. http://lifehacker.com/400292/top-10-how-to-videos Video #1 at the bottom of the list (It's a countdown).
  25. If you brush some water on your monitor while viewing a picture of a SBEII online, it will rust a little.
