  1. if you dont use clylinder chokes then you are running a big chance of bulging the barrell. As we all know a tighter choke "shrinks" the size of the barrel. So with a slug that fits the diameter of the barrel, or a sabot slug, you run the risk of damaging something. Go to your benelli dealer and order a cylinder choke. A cylinder choke is no choke at all, it is the same diameter as the rest of the cylinder. I bet you can also order one on the site here
  2. woah, did I take your name or did you take mine? I will keep the 8 shot on mine just so there is no confusion. The major difference is the shot pattern. On a trap gun it will be about 60/40, which means that 60% of your shot will go above the bead and 40 below. With a field gun you are looking at about 80/20 (I think that is what Mine is) meaning 80% of the pattern is below the bead and 20% is above so you pretty much have to cover up the target, as there is a lot more shot below the bead. Any compitent gunsmith can turn a field gun into a trap gun though [ 12-23-2004, 03:59 PM: Message edited by: 8 Shot M1 Super 90 ]
  3. where the **** do you get 1oz loads, and what the heck do you use them for?
  4. My local benelli dealer (who also happens to be my stepbrother) advises againsts the use of a full choke with slugs. For fear that the constriction of benelli's full choke will not be forgiving enough and might (probably will) bulge the barrel. Stick with the modified, dont go anytighter
  5. Dump the 11-87 quick. Unless you really need a 3.5" shell, (which you dont in sporting clays, it is just overkill) pick up an M1, they come in all sorts of left hand configs. I have been shooting trap with an M1 with a 4 round mag extention for close to 2 years now and love it. It really shines when we shoot continentals, cycles quicker than ****!
  6. Dont count on one going for as low as 550. i think that your 749 quote is a reasonable price for a sbe
  7. Its not illegal if you dont get caught!!! he he he
  8. The nova is one of the best competetively priced pump guns on the market right now. I looked at one as my first gun when i was 15 when they were still a 600 dollar gun but finances forced me into a remington 870. If it didnt have feed problems, it would be an ok gun. I have had m1 super 90 (as my name says) for over 2 years now and love it. Go for it, get the nova, you wont be dissapointed
  9. oh yeah, buy another c clamp device, if not there is a possibility that it could get snagged on something and bent, broken, or break the threads on the mag tube (then you will really be in trouble)
  10. I have one of the mag extentions on my M1, and believe it is the same extention. The screw is in the middle and screws into a tapered piece that fits between the two sides correct? I dont know what you are worried about, it wont crimp the barrel, or the extention. (if you look closely, there is a smaller side and a bigger diameter side, make sure the bigger diameter side is the one holding the barrel) Tighten it down, dont go crazy with an air tool or anything, though. Normally i use a penny, and tighten it down until i cant turn it, the penny makes it so I can only use a certan amount of leverage.
  11. Go with a Remington 700 in 7mm mag with a leupold 3x9 this is a great combo that will drop anything from deer to elk, and if you are good, moose
  12. Porting the barrel will severely compromise the cycling of your guns, and there is a really good chance you will end up not being able to cycle light loads.
  13. Where did this mossberg debate come from? Someone posted some heresay erronus information, and all of a sudden we are talking about the mossberg's military history. Id take a handfull of rocks before I bought a mossberg [ 12-22-2004, 02:53 PM: Message edited by: M1 Super 90 ]
  14. I thought I posted it already. If not, check into a Browning BT99 that is what I started trap shooting with and it was a great gun
  15. good choice. I have been shooting a Remington 700 chambered in .223 for a couple of years now. Even with the light barrel, it is amzingly accurate. I once even killed a praire dog at 350 to 400 yards with it. (Got witnesses on that one)
  16. Hey, its good to see so many people interested in throwing clays! You say that you have a buddy to shoot with. This is great. Wal-Mart sells hand thowers for no more than $5, and boxes of clays are cheep too. You can buy enough clays to last you a summer for 25 dollars. As far as the gun goes, that is tough. Scout pawn shops (good ones) with your parents. This is what I did. I found my first gun, a Remington 870 Express for $120. I know this sounds like a lot, but as a Christmas Gift (that time is now upon us) it would be awesome. As far as the BB Gun statements this isnt really the best Idea. A shotgun and a rifle (or bb gun) use 2 totally different kinds of shooing. With a rifle you aim, a shotgun you point. I agree that shooting a bb gun will improve your overall skill as a hunter, and does teach some very good techniques, but it isnt gonna help you with your shotgunning too much.
  17. where in ne oklahoma? Im in SW kansas. For a phesant gun, you can pick a new m1 up for just under a grand. used you are looking from 6-800 depending on how good the gun looks. The nova is an awesome phesant gun, they feed very quickly and reliably, and also have a feed cut off button. that way you can eject the shell from the chamber and not chamber another (handy for crossing fences)
  18. the steady grip is nothign more than the tactical stock put on a turkey gun with camo on it
  19. The best oil I have used on my Benelli is an oil made by Beretta. It is called olio (italian for oil!) We sell it in my stepdads store. Good stuff
