  1. A quick definition to possibly stop this madness Semi Automatic=Requires pulling the trigger for each bullet shot but requires no manual manipulation of the bolt assembly to remove spent casing and chamber a new round. This is true no matter how fast it shoots, from the M1 garand to the AR 15 to a Ruger 10/22...they are all semi automatic Fully Automatic (Also called an "assult weapon") Does not require individual trigger pulls for each bullet shot and requires no manual bolt manipulation to eject spent casing and chamber a new round. Can be shot in a few round burst, or dumping the clip by just holding down the trigger. Bolt Action=Requires the bolt to be manipulated to eject spent casing and chamber a new round Lever action=uses a lever to open the action to eject a spent casing and chamber a new round Pump Action=uses a slide built into the foregrip to eject spent casing or shell and chamber a new round Break Action=requires the action of the gun to be opened and the spent casing to be maually extracted and a new round manually inserted.
  2. I hate to admit it for the possiblity of forsaking the Duke, but I think youre right.
  3. Just looked on the website and couldnt find a picture. any help?
  4. Ive always been taught dont shoot slugs through anything but cyl
  5. ^^^^^^What were we talking about again?
  6. Ive hunted with a leftie shooting a right handed semi auto, and he said once he got used to it the shells flying across his face wasnt a big deal. The problem I would see comes in the ease of the activation/deactivation of the safety. Righthanded benellis and leftie benellis are opposite in the safety activation. My advice would be either a browning bps, which ejects the shell out of the bottom, or a left handed pump gun from another manufacturer. You really cant go wrong with an 870 remington. Later on down the line if you decide you want to spend the coin pick up a left handed m2 or Sbe2. As far as the 3.5" shell goes. Ive always kind of seen it as an answer to an unasked question. In my opinion, if ducks and geese are decoying, the 3" does the trick, everytime. Ive killed both ducks and geese with my m1 and never was I looking for a bit more shot. If you want to sky bust and put little dents in the bottom of airplanes flying at 20000 feet, by all means get the 3.5"
  7. Im with bill. While the steady grip is nice, it makes it incredibly difficult and akward when it comes to swinging on flying birds, especially pass shots on teal. Althoiugh its incorrect, for me, my hand on the stock controls most of what the gun does.
  8. Mod or admin, please delete this thread when you get a minute
  9. You want cheap replacement parts, don't buy Italian.
  10. Why? What advantages do you think youre gonna come up with storing them muzzle down?
  11. Thank you for your help on the Super 90 designation. My gun is stamped 2002, so wern't all M1's Super 90's by then? (As far as the 8 shot goes, i made this account years ago when i was running around with my mag extention on all the time.)
  12. Ive looked and looked, and even asked my dealer, and I can't get a straight answer as to what the Super 90 designation really refers to. Anyone point me in the right direction?
  13. Ducks: Kent Faststeel #4 Mod choke over decoys Geese: Kent Faststeel BB Mod choke Later in the season i will switch to #2 or #3 for ducks.
  14. I cleaned my M1 after opening day of duck season a few days ago and decided to pull the bolt assembly apart. After wiping off and spraying in a fairly generous amount of remoil I re-assembled it and now with the bolt in the captured open position it sounds like the inertia spring is rattling. I pulled it apart and double checked myself and according to the pictures in my owners manual i have everything installed correctly. I just dont remember this sound from before, and ive had the gun since it was new almost 10 years ago, so I dont remember if it was like that when it was new. Any ideas? Could it be the fact that the gunk is gone out of it allowing it to make a little more noise than usual? This is the first time its ever been pulled apart. Tom
  15. Hey thanks guys. When I said the action of my gun, I ment just that, the action of my M1 slamming shut. Ive finally gotten him broken of that. We have him trained to sit right now. Just watching him when we throw a stick in the back yard reminds me of some of the best birddogs ive seen. He is smart. We dont have the luxury of hunting ducks from a boat, so Im not gonna make him go with us and sit in the cold water for an hour and a half at a time. Ill take the food bowl idea into consideration. Might take him to some walk in hunting and knock a few shots off, just go get him used to the sound.
  16. Not to pull up an old topic. But....I regularly have my 3 shot extention in (7+1). I shoot trap with it on there, and one of the regulars at my stepdads trap park just so happens to be the local fish cop. He knows me, knows what I shoot. Never hassled me once for it. Is it just not that big of a problem, or is he just waiting to bust me in the field with it?
  17. we are hunting over decoys, and neither my roommate or I are terribly experienced. We have a VERY good spot though. The weather here is mid 40's during the day, and dips down into the high 20's at night. Based on what we saw today, they stay really high, until they come in, at which point one almost needs to duck (no pun intended), so i think im gonna try my IC tomorrow, and take my modified in my pocket just incase. BTW. Watch where you guys are shooting. Some no shooting dicks across the pond from us kept peppering us wit their shot. Didnt hurt, but jeez it was annoying. Thought about rocking off a couple in their direction, just to give them a taste of their own medicine. But I get pissed easily, so, not a good idea to start screwing around like that. Good way to get someone hurt. [ 11-17-2005, 09:53 PM: Message edited by: 8 Shot M1 Super 90 ]
  18. Up until today, I thought I hated duck hunting. I mean, cmon, sit around and wait for birds? **** no, not for me!! Im a dedicated upland game hunter here in Kansas, and about the most sitting around I do is behind the scope of my Remington 700 .223 waitng for coyotes. Well, my roommate finally talked me into getting myself legal (a whopping 21 dollars!) and going with him to duck hunt, and I am sold. I had a blast. Now to the point. I shoot an M1 Super 90 with a 28" barrel. I leave my modified choke in there all the time, because it seems to do me the best good. Today I bought a box of Winchester 3" XPERT HV Steel Shot in 3's. 1550 FPS (I like a heavy shell, I shoot Winchester 2 3/4 Supremes in 7 1/2 for my upland, the rock out at a smokin 1400fps) Being new to the Steel Shot thing I thought I would ask a few questions. I have heard that Steel crates a tighter pattern, I like longer shots (30yds max), but I feel like the tightness hindered my shots at closer ranges. Other than shooter skill, I missed a couple of 10-15yd shots that I normally would have bagged with my lead shot. Should I use an Modifed Cylinder the next time I go out? Will this give me any sort of range out to what I like (like I said, bout 30 yds). These puppies were coming in right over our head. I was also thinking of going to a ligher load. The steel seems to go right through (I center punched one at about 20yds, saw the feathers fly, and saw something fall off the bird) but it kept on flying. Would a little lighter load with a modified choke do me better, or my current shells with an IC choke do me better. Thanks guys, and I promise, I will never make fun of another duck hunter again.
  19. We have a 12 week old Black Lab puppy at our house. I am trying to get him used to (and not scared of) the action of my guns. Any good online traning manuals? Ive never trained a bird dog before
  20. I killed one off of my front porch one time, does that count?
  21. dont know why it wouldnt, the sbe2 just has a different stock, grip and trigger guard i thought
  22. I shoot a lot of trap (2000 to 3000 or so shells a year just on clays), so I am not dumb to the sport. I shoot winchester "super targets" which are 1 1/8's ounces
  23. either improved, or cylinder
  24. i use a box and like it, just a problem because it takes both hands
