  1. Funny and serious thread. kengps your going to need to register just the barrel with the BATF&E and pay 200 DOLLARS just for a tax stamp! You may only have to pay a 5$ tax if whatever you obtain is considered an AOW. The few 14" shotguns I've sold were considered AOW's, so only 5 bucks not 200. I wasn't sure if you were aware or not. I know that was lame, but easy. But I'll add a couple of serious thoughts now. Benelli does import factory made 14" barrels, they even have an M1 14" LE entry model. As deasmuth pointed out keep your form 4 in a vault (somewhere safe) and make some copies to be stored at another location. Most people aren't aware of this but if you own a class III weapon the BATF&E can show up at your residence and demand to see the firearm and of course the paper work. They can show up 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365. This applies to citezens. You don't have to be a dealer. You may hear a knock at 4 a.m. and suprise! Show us your mp5sd, and they don't even have to say please. All though this is rare they do have the right.

    BUCKSHOT

Looks like a pretty decent rack. Congrats. Plenty of meat on that bad boy. Is that an entry wound around the right shoulder? Its hard to tell on my monitor. If so nice shot. I've only hunted a few times when i was a kid. I didn't really enjoy the 4 a.m. wake up and freezing temps at the age of 11. I do know your grateful for that tractor and sled. If you read this post how far away were you when you hit it? One shot? Did it take him right out or did you have to track him? I know about zero when it comes to hunting animals. Enjoy those venison (sp,?) steaks. Tasty stuff.
  3. I listed the MK II as one of the 22lr pistols I'd recommend, in addition to the Buckmark. Both good choices. However all of us familar with the MK II haven't let chris v in on how DIFFICULT it is to fully break down and reassemble. I swear when I first tried to reassemble the MK II for the first time I almost was ready to give it away. Its almost like you need 3 hands. Of course its like riding a bike, once I got the hang of it years ago, I can do it w/o incident nowadays. The manuel does give instructions but its like telling someone how to drive a stick shift. As I mentioned above Ciener makes 22lr kits for just about every type of gun, including Glock. I recommend the Ciener kit becuse I've seen it work on multiple platforms. What really amazed me was it worked in an M-16 on full auto. We were all suprised, it wasn't flawless but we've put thousands of rounds through it. 22lr is cheap ammo (generally) and it dirties up your firearm quicker then any other type of ammo. But you save money. Make sure to always clean your 22lr pistols or you'll have plenty o jams.
  4. Ol'Roy is right up and down in his post. I have a plethora(would you say I had a "plethora" of gifts Peppy?) of handguns and the .357 sig really comes to mind as a round that isn't all that large but much harder to learn to shoot then the much larger .45ACP out of a 1911. Several factors make this a reality but I'm all ready way off topic. If your going to get a 1911 (my favorite pistol platform by far, and personally own 3 by 3 diff. companies) Heres a quick low down on 1911's I happen to own. Kimbers are nice 1911's and there price reflects it. I believe there entry models are near a grand,(depends where you live, NIB, etc.) but you get what you pay for. Very nice firearms. Also you can get a conversion kit to shoot .22lr. Secondly there is Springfield which has a much wider price range then Kimber for 1911's. Springfields are generally good reliable guns (you get MORE then you pay for sometimes I feel) and you of course can get a .22lr kit for it as well. Lastly and my personal favorite is my Colt. I find people either love 'em or don't care for them. Colt's been making 1911's since the military gave them a contract in 1912 that lasted till 1986. They are familar with the 1911. My Colt is a MKIV/series 70 thats older than me. Its been all around the world and was given to me as a gift. Its been well maintained has a Bar-Sto barell, extended mag well, trigger job, etc. etc. and its stainless. A-lot of 1911 officionado's are shocked to see its stainless as Colt didn't offer this model in stainless when it came out. I'm quick to point out it didn't have a Bar-Sto barell with compensator when it came out either. People are always trying to buy it, but no dice. Well now that I've written the sequel toThe Art of War... (once you get me going on my toys..) SOOOO if you buy a 1911 those are 3 brands I respect. (there are some more) Of course you want a 1911 that feels like its an extension of your hand. Shooting a 1911 will make you a better shot then you think you are. Trust me. If your looking for a conversion kit theres a company called Ciener that makes 22lr kits for everything from a Browning Hi- Power to an M-16. They cost about 200-300 bucks. We have one for our M-16 and it works well. Anyone who has a .22lr conversion kit and is having cycling trouble should use a higher velocity round. I find CCI stingers work well on full auto in a machince gun. (Always make sure your kit can handle the high velocity rounds.) Downside is the gas port clogs up quick. Get the 1911 and you'll have the ability to have 2 guns in one. As usual tucker's suggestions for straight up .22lr target pistols are dead on. I'd add the Ruger MK II as another option thats in the same class. We sell more Buckmarks and MK II's then any other .22 pistol by far. If I were you I'd get a 1911. Who knows? If your only after rodents maybe a 10/22 Ruger rifle with integral silencer? I can attest they are whisper quiet and pretty accurate. I'll shoot it with neighbors 50 feet away and there clueless. The suppressor and barrel is one. They make a MK II like that as well thats super quiet. However the BATF&E deem these items Class III so you wait forever and pay the Feds a 200 tax. Yeah stick with the 1911.

    BUCKSHOT

BUTCH-M it appears you've gotten the answers you were looking for, and I'd agree. I shoot shotguns often and all I ever shoot is 00,000, buck or slugs. When I read your first post I pictured 8 33 caliber pellets just hiting north, south, east, and west of the inside of that rifled barreled. Which of course doesn't sound like something one would want to do for several reasons. As I went further down the thread I read you have 3 1/2" shells in buckshot!! Holy smoke is that a load! I'd also have to agree with you about hunting accidents happening in close quarters as opposed to 1/2 mile away. I'm definitely interested in what your 3 1/2" shells do to what ever you shoot them if you ever do. Just shoot it at some cardboard or something. Watch how fast you can incinerate whatever lays in the path of that DOA round. (Out of your smoothbore of course.) Have fun, and prepare to watch something get ripped to shreads.
  6. I believe the Super Bowl is the most widely watched program in the WORLD annually. So actually I and millions of others care. I also participate in MMA and have followed the UFC from the 1st fight. usmarine have you ever seen the earlier fights? They literally had 0 rules and no time limits! I saw Tank Abbott fight (actally fighting consistantly for over 90 minutes I believe, (none of this full guard resting on your opponent stuff) Where its still a rough sport its nothing like it was in the begining, which is actually a good thing. It was far to violent and the UFC wouldn't of lasted IMO. I agree with both your picks usmarine. Even though I'd like to see Coutoure win I think his age has caught up with him. Chucks hands are gonna be to fast. Back to your regularly scheduled program.
  7. You can shoot sabots out of a smoothbore . However from what I've heard the high price of sabots aren't worth it unless you are using a slug (rifled) barrell. Sabots out of a smoothbore will not give you the long range higher accuracy your paying for. (I've heard people argue that they are more accurate, but the majority of what I've heard is there to inconsistant) So yes you can shoot sabots out of a smoothbore but its a waste of loot. A rifled choke would improve things but sabots are intended for slug barrells. Try rifled slugs out of your smoothbore and see if that helps your accuracy. Once your zeroed in with a particular brand stick with it. Diff. brands can have your POI all over the place. Rifled slugs will do fine out of a smoothbore thats actually what they are intented for. The soft lead of the slugs would fould up a slug barrell after a few shots, and possible even ruin a slug gun. People often confuse the 2 I've found. Good luck.
  8. I guess I didn't elaborate enough in my post. STEELERS FANs way of cleaning is fine as a routine maintenance.(Say you shoot on Friday and you know your shooting on Sunday, no need to detail IMO this is where I feel STEELERS FANs cleaning technique is acceptable) You can tell by looking at the action, bolt, etc. and see if they're clean or not. The barrell can be looked through as well but its not as vivid. I just always tell people you know the barrell is clean when u push a patch through and it comes out white. Theres no right answer on how one should clean a firearm, to many variables. Say you run 5 rounds through a detailed clean shotgun, do you need to take apart the bolt assembly, trigger ***., etc.? I personally don't think so, but others may disagree. bluedavis your absolutely right your firearm can malfunction if not properly cared for. I by no means think that running a patch through the barrell is any way to clean a firearm. Just my personal final step, I should of clarified more.
  9. The jumbo safety kit from Brownells (fits several models) WILL fit. If you ordered (and they sent) the proper kit. Brownells refers to it as Benilli's jumbo safety kit cause it fits so many models. I'm not knocking Benelli or there products but I've heard mis-information from there cs dept. before. If you decide to re-order it installing it isn't a novice job. Its possible but tricky. Brownells has an exploded diagram on there site that shows a completely dis-assembled Benelli. Its not a step by step pic. but all the parts (including safety, safety spring etc.) are all numbered and labeled so you should be able to use the diagram as a helpful reference if you go that route. Worse case scenario head to your local shop and they might do it free of charge. If you were one of my customers we'd do it for you. Anyways good luck to you.
  10. Way off topic but here goes. I think tucker (in jest of course) was pointing out that Ohio has not 1 but TWO teams in the NFL. However I could be wrong, wouldn't be a first. Important thing is that the Bus might get a ring. Imagine the size that thing will be if he gets the win???
  11. I just read this thread from top to bottom. I own way to many shotguns and one happens to be a nova (h20) and I've got a couple 870's. One of the 870's is a Wilson scattergun and I would not hesitate to take it into battle. The other 870 I have is an old cops bare bones 870 that looks like it was used as a hammer. (maybe it was??) Anyway 870-'s were desinged apr. 5 decades ago. To me thats a good thing not a bad thing. Its a good platform so why change it? Kind of like a 1911. (little mods here and there but basically the Great John Brownings gun he put out in 1911 is still what u get today.) Just cuz a guns design is old doesn't make it no good. The nova I've had for under a year but I've worked it out pretty good. It took me a short amount of time to get comfortable with it. Its a good gun but its not one of my personal favorites. Just my preference. One of the most important things is how does it feel when you shoulder either of the guns? Whichever feels better, more natural, then thats the one I'd purchase. The 870 will last forever (the proof is in the pudding) and even though the nova is an infant in comparison to how long its been around it will probably last a long time. Only time will tell. I read a couple posts about some Mossbergs so I'll throw my hat into the ring. I have a Moss. M590A1 and its super sturdy. I've had it for years and even neglected it and it still is a great shooter. Its actually a super reliable shotgun. The 500's are a little less sturdy (maybe even a-lot less) IMO the 500 turned people off from Moss. The 500 and 590 are in different leagues IMO.
  12. skidahos link to tuckers post is a good way to thoroughly clean a firearm. What your doing is fine. Routine maintenance (which is what your doing) makes cleaning that much more easier. Then you'll only have to fully detail your gun a few times a year. (depending on how often you shoot, type of firearm, etc.) If u run a cleaning patch through your barell and it comes out the other end white your good to go. Off topic, Congratulations on the Steelers. I'm glad they finally got out of the playoffs. It would be nice to see Cohwar and the Bus get a superbowl victory. Good luck.
  13. We have the same policy at my shop. Guy wants to sell us a gun me or my partner get dibbs, than it travels to the general manager, manager, and so on. If none of us want it we put it up for sale. Xmas came early for you my friend. If I were you I wouldn't sell it EVER. Unless you end up snatching another one for 500 bucks! From all the guns in your state it could happen. I heard it was against the law NOT to own a gun in Texas. JJ
  14. What type of solvent are you using? I've probably used dozens of brushes (cleaning mine and customers guns) and haven't had any problems with a brush turning green. I'm not doubting you, I'm just guessing maybe its your cleaning agent. Hoppes #9 will do you right. If a firearm isn't very fouled up I'll just use nylon brushes which work well. I reserve the various metal brushes for the heavily fouled firearms.
  15. I just commented on your nice acquisition in another thread. The people that say its to complicated have probably never handled one, or not been instructed properly. The switch from semi to pump is quite easy when you know what your doing.
  16. SWEEET! Under 600? You could double possibly triple that price and sell it within a couple weeks on an auction site. Did you acquire it online? Anyways you got the deal of the century. Thats a fine piece, Congrats. Happy shooting.
  17. Cool link. Lots of cool info. there. The MP5 breaks down easier then many handguns. (ie: Ruger Mk. II, I think the inventor purposely played a joke on all of us with that one) Gotta love a sub machinegun that fires from a closed bolt. Extremely accurate.
  18. I have an FFL and it was hard to find about a year ago. After calling all my resources, I actually went with Mann and Sons. Usually I can get dealer prices on items but I couldn't find the ext. anywhere so I paid retail. Not only does it give you extra rounds it makes the gun look much more complete. MORE nickel. Do a search on this site for Mann and Sons to get there phone#. They should be able to get you one. They don't have a website.
  19. The M3 is one of my all time favorite tactical shotguns. Well technically the M3ST (1 w/ folding stock) To the best of my knowledge Benelli still makes the M3. Not so sure about the M3ST. Theres a member on this forum who has a couple M3's, at least 1 is the M3ST. This gun is basically designed for LE or Millitary. The pump feature allows one to use less lethal rounds which wouldn't cycle the bolt. However its never been restricted to just LE etc. fortunately.
  20. Wow I thought me and my partner were the only ones to be on the ATF's sheiet list. Maybe they don't like us cause we beat them in court? Not once but twice. After our inital victory in court (basically they weren't allowing us to our privelages under the 2nd amendment.) After that we were audited (ATF&E not IRS) more then annually which is ILLEGAL, and harrassament, unless you were robbed and they need to "check" your current and PAST inventory?? My partner is a lawyer and I thought he was nuts initally. Sueing the ATF sounded a little hairy to me. I know several ATF&E agents now that actually use our range. They are in complete agreement with us. Its not the field agents but the desk jockies. I have all the respect for the ATF&E the men and women in the field risking their lives. I have 0 respect for people that push paper in order to make ones life difficult because of no reason what-so-ever. I guarantee STA is correct it comes down to Benelli and there relationship. Once your on the sheiet list you don't get off.
  21. Nice set-up. Money is no good when your worm food. Enjoy it while while you can. I'm working on getting the new Charger SRT8. 6.1 liter Hemi with 425bhp out of the box! I figured it would get me to the gun range faster then my current automobile. If you haven't shot the Eo Tech yet you'll be happy. It allows for quick acqusition and stays zeroed in. One of the reasons for its price tag. Happy shooting.
  22. They have some for sale on gunsamerica.com. Theres one NIB for $419. I have one and got the 3 round nickel mag. extension for it. I've put 500+ rounds through it and its given me no problems. Sometimes nickel finishs can "pickle" or kind of flake off. When I give it a good cleaning (inside and out) it could prob. pass for NIB. So the finish has held up well. Its a nice piece and I'm happy with it.
  23. http://www.autoweapons.com/pagelinks/benelliaccy.htm These guys may have factory benelli extensions for a decnt price. Shoot them an e-mail. I've been off the web for a-while are mag extensions hard to find these days? I went to Cals and there website basically states there only shipping to LE agencies. It appears that Benelli itself wants the LE's letterhead in order to ship out the ext. to Cals. I've been out of the country for a few months what have I missed?? Maybe try calling Mann and Sons. Has Benelli stopped selling mag ext. to FFL's? I thought we were making process in the 2nd amendment world with the sunset ban and all. I just saw the slickest set-up. Springfield Armory SOCOM II carbine. Every bell and whistle you could think of. Its almost to nice of a set-up I bet SWAT and guys over seas will be snapping these up faster then Springfield can hit the civlian market. (At least initally) This thing has it all. And of course its chambered in the dominating .308. If I were in combat I'd take a .308 over a 5.56 w/o thinking about it. The reason for my ranting is there are a ton of new/old high powered carbines/rifles available to the public, but they can't sell mag extensions for shotguns?? I'm guessing on the magazines but this thread and my little research looks like theres some sort of halt Benelli mag. ext. Well lets just keep plenty of .50 BMG and .338 Lapua Mag available. The senseless world of gun politics.
  24. I've been out of the country and not on this forum in a-while. I'm not familar with the thread on the primer's being dented. In my experience if the primer gets hit (and theres a dent) then its not the gun but the primers are bad. I've got a S&W 686 that I did a trigger job on. I made the single action pull "unsafely" light. When I tried firing it the primers wouldn't have much of a mar on them, let alone a dent. If your firing pin did indeed break, order a new one and replace it. Benelli is a good, reliable brand but your bound to have a little quality control issues here and there. Maybe try Brownells for the firing pin. They've got tons oh stuff and decent prices. I've ran about 500 rounds through a nova H20 and have had 0 problems. I'm actually suprised at how well the nickel finish has held up.
  25. Come on Maryland is bad but not even close to CA,NJ, or MA. Watching the video for first time purchase of a regulated firearm is a hassle. (but some morons SHOULD watch it) The fact that the state police annually rejects 98% of all CCW permits is lame. Other than that we're good to go. We can own class III weapons! (select fire, suppressors, etc.) About the inital question we've all heard of the "gun show" loophole. Even then if its a non-regulated firearm they must do a NICS check. Whenever you buy a shotgun (given its non-regulated) at a store they always do a NICS check. DeadlyBenelli to be technically correct take your nova and go to an FFL dealer with your buddy thats buying the gun. The FFL will probably charge a slight fee, but your asss is 100% covered. Make the purchaser pay the fee. If you just draft up a document the firearm is still supposedly in your posession according to the record of sale. Something goes awry with the gun and the ATF&E will be showing up at YOUR house in the early a.m.
