i got to shoot an old stevens bolt action 10ga today. 3 1/2 mag 2oz #6 shot. O MY GOD!!!! i cant believe people really hunt with these monsters. what a freakin cannon. this guy had an old single shot break over thats an 8ga.he said he cant find ammo for it, i wouldnt shoot it if he did. his grand dad made a board with all the different gauges of shotshells on it.from 410 to 00 gauge. they run as 410,28,20,16,12,10,8,6,4,2,0,00.he said that from 6ga down were mounted on the nose of a boat and used to hunt geese on lakes up north. you guys up north ever heard of such??

i shoot skeet with a modified, some times a full just spice it up. the only advantage i can see in a skeet tube vs a i/c or mod , is you can get them a little faster off the thrower,if your doing good with what you got, why change?my worst score with a mod is 88/100, my best is 96/100. "if it aint broke, dont fix it"

to answer tucker301s question. i have over limited once.i got in on a company sponsered hunt in 1988. on a cut milo field. we slaughtered birds. i killed 45 birds. three times the legal limit in texas.when we left the field,setting on the edge of the road was a texas gamewarden. he stopped us, checked our guns for plugs, then searched our vehicles.when he found how many birds we had, he cited us, and kept all but 15 birds each. the fine was.....$40.00 per every bird over 15.=$1200.00. and we were not allowed to pay it out. ive never done again.

there are people out here that were not brought up around guns.if someone post what you believe to be a "stupid question" why answer it? as far as im concerned, the only stupid question is the one that is not asked. i my self have had customer service departments[not benelli] give me the royal run around,or tell me what they thought i wanted to hear. where some else will give me straight answer without blowing smoke up my butt. dont rag on peoplethat are inexperienced at anything. after all we wernt all born with a gun in our hand!!

dont knock 410s. my wife has one, and i can bust just as many clays with it as i can my 12 or 20.its light as a feather, and recoil is zero.

heck, on opening day the birds here will just about lite on your barrel. i prefer to wait a week or so, thats when their coming over 100' high, and 70 mph. try getting on a stock tank or pond in the late evening. youll limit out in 30 min.

i have a friend that has 3 mossbergs, a 500, a maverick, and a silver reserve o/u. he has had no problems with his. and that silver reserve is really nice for a $500.00 shotgun. no rust there.

well really it depends on where you live here. a year long dove lease here is around $150.00-200.00, day lease is $15.00-40.00. i have several good places to go but its a 3-4 hour drive. and then there are the public lands.....where the hunters out number the birds.

like i said,try out all the configurations. use what suits YOU. i prefer a 28" barrel for all my bird hunting. turkey, dove , quail, pheasent, and duck. i prefer a 7mm mag for deer. its only my opinion, but i dont much believe in the word "best". its what ever your comfortable with.

my opinion. a federal hi power 2 3/4-7/8oz rs will prove more than effective, with less damage.

AMEN. even at a range of 30yards a face full of #4s would be very dicouraging. keep this in mind people. if you kill an innocent, you WILL be charged. intruder or not count on it.

check out charles daly. mine has a matte finish, synthetic stock, and foregrip and has had 1000s of rounds run through it with no problems. its a very versital gun, comes with 3 choke tubes for $279.00.

if you are using a smoothbore, just dont use a sabot slug.they are not rifled.what are you going to be hunting, at what distance??

there are literally thousands of acres of milo and sorgum planted around ft worth with thousands of birds. the grippy old farts that own the land wont let anybody hunt it at any price. ive even offered $100.00 for just a day hunt. no dice.

ah yes. dove season is just around the corner.sept 1st, limit 14 per day, 28 in possesion.there seems to be a record number of these tasty little birds this year here in north central texas. i was told you can hunt dove in old mexico, and there is no limit. but a mexico hunting license is $15.00.i was also told you deffinatly want that mex lic with you if you get stopped by a tex game warden. and best of all is, my wife wont eat em.all the more for me.

no doubt about it.heck. at 15 ft, just a 410 snake charmer would make mess you would NOT want clean up.

sorry, my mistake. looking at the data i have. 3 1/2 slugs usually have a 1/8 heavier slug, and just a tad more powder. =50-75 fps faster. not enough to mention.
