  1. to set the record straight 3" shells contain 13/8 -1 1/2oz of shot, 3 1/2" shells contain 1 5/8-2oz of shot. its not just extra wadding.
  2. just a thought. pmeyer are you near saltwater??? salt water makes metal rust 10 times faster than normal.and if you are near it, it is in the air.
  3. the best thing to do is go out with several different people who own several different types and makes of shotguns, and let her shoot them all. then SHE can decide what she prefers.you can always have the stock shortened to fit her. my wife is 5' 6", 129lbs. she fell in love with a Fausti o/u 410. we had the stock cut to fit for $40.00. i laughed till she out shot me with it. just remember its about her and what she wants, and is comfortable with.we as men are bad about getting kids, and wives what we like.
  4. yer sir, the silver reserve is a beutiful shotgun. i have a friend that has one, lol, he polished the satin part of the receiver to a high gloss shine. on the former subject. it is funny to watch my kido shoot that al-48,cause it kicks the snot out of him, but he hits what he aims at 50% of the time. i know a lot of time we tend to get our kids, and wifes what we want them to shoot. why this is im not sure.when i got my gal the al-48, she hated it. so i gave her $500.00 and told her go get what you want. she came back with a Fausti 410 o/u, i laugh out loud. we went to the skeet range and she shocked me, she did real good. then i tryed the 410, and let me tell you ...that is a sweet little shotgun.
  5. i agree for the most part with what timb99 is saying. my question is....what does he want?? my kido prefers my franchi al-48/20ga over my 870/16ga, charles daly/12ga, and his moms 410. and the al-48 kicks harder than any of the forementioned. when asked why he likes it , his response was "it doesnt make me tired to hold it, its lighter. its all about what he wants and what he is comfortable shooting. the problem with the 1187s is perplexing at the least. i have friends that have them and never had a problem. nto knocking the citoris, the are fairly expensive , but very nice. my i suggest a "mossberg silver reserve"?? around $450.00 to $500.00.
  6. LOL, right on. there must be something to those 410s too. i see a LOT of people shooting them at sporting clays. my wife has one and its a lot of fun to shoot.
  7. ive been trying to figure out how to post some pics, and cant seem to figure it out. can anyone tell me how?????
  8. i dont usually answer a question unless im fairly sure of the answer.if its only my opinion, i will say it is. i love this site, ive learned a lot from it about firearms i dont even own. and it also changed my mind about buying certain ones. i wont mention names.

  10. check out http://www.natchezss.com they have some fantastic deals on all kinds of scopes, sights for shotguns, rifles, and pistols.
  11. the test i did not prove extreme differences, but were noticeable. when you have doubts, check it out yourself. a buddy of mine, and myself were arguing about this subject a few years back. and thats what we did......believe only half of what you see, and none of what you hear.
  12. and a 28" barreel is NOT 10" closer to the target. its4" closer.
  13. just because you like 24" barrels does not make it right or wrong. its what each person prefers. i prefer a 28" barrel and the extra 4" is not that big an issue for me.
  14. I Have A Wife .not That Its Any Of Your Business. I Have Done These Test Because I Wanted To Know The Out Come. The Gun I Was Using Was A Remington 870. I Have A 24"& A 30" Barrel For It , Used Federal Heavy Field Loads, On An Indoor Range, Standing Behind A Bench Shooting At 2 Separate 4ftx4ft Peices Of White Poster Board With An 18" Circle Drawn On Them. And No I Did Not Count Each Pellet, Because It Was Quite Clear What Barrel Put The Most Pellets In That Circle. This Is Not Opinion... Its Fact. If You Dont Believe It, Try It......that Is If ...your Wife Will Let You!!! You Are 1000% Wrong, And Most Everybody On This Forum Knows It.
  15. check out http://www.natchezss.com the best scope prices ive seen yet, and they have just about anything you can think of.
  16. you could be seen for 5 miles on sunny day.
  17. i guess they just like to waste steel putting 36" barrels on goose guns. ive yet to see a goose hunter with a 24" barrel. and yes length is a factor. a 24" barrel with a full choke, does NOT have as tight a pattern as a 30" with a moified. i tested this theory. the proof is in puddin..

  19. a 12 ga slug weighs from 7/8 to 1 1/8 oz. travels at 1350-1550 fps.they have awsome knock down power. it will likely stop EVERYTHING on this continent, with maybe the exeption of an abrams tank. i cant find a conversion chart, and cant seem to figure a formula to convert oz's to grains. i think a 1 1/8oz slug weighs around 700 grains. i load 50bmg with 800grain bullets and 255 grains of powder. but there are o lot of other really hard hitting rifles. 375 H&H,458 win mag , weatherby 460 mag. but, yes slugs are very powerful. i just never cared for them due to the excesive damage they do, and limited range. i dont heart shoot my dear, ishot for the middle/center of the neck 6" below the head. ive never had to track one. i hunt for the freezer, not the wall. i hunt with a 7mm mag, but if i ever have a charging rhino or elephant, im sure ill wish i had a 12 ga w/slugs.
  20. i prefer my armalite 50, turns into rabbit stew, and chili at the same time.
  21. im no expert, but i find it hard to believe that a persons weight would have anything to do with it.if its true, that seems to me like a very poor design. i would suggest getting him a franchi AL48 20ga , my 9yr old stepson shoots mine a lot and he only weighs around 70lbs. there are several on http://www.gunbroker.com if you can find an engraved one ,like mine ,youll make him prouder than a peacock. they are beautiful. you should be able to fix yours, but that really depends on how you are at gunsmithing. good luck.
  22. i use a modified, the same choke i hunt with. it seems to keep me a on my toes. it also seems to make the clays a little harder to hit. i kind of enjoy the challenge. and have used a full just for grins. there is no right or wrong really. its all about having a good time, and doing what ya like.
  23. i would sure like to be there when he cleans his first turkey. shore aint like cleanin a dove,is it??
  24. there are 3 things ive never understood. 1. polly chokes,2. compensators, and 3.ported barrels. i can see a ported barrel on something like a 458 win mag, or a 460 weatherby. doing this actually inproves nothing.
  25. it does say they are available for the supernova, but does not list them, and gives zero info on the prices, or length options.
