  1. My nova is the same way, great gun. It has taken many ducks and geese this season. I've got 4 days of goose hunting left and I'm going to see if I can get my limit a few more times with it.
  2. I don't get it though, they aren't fenced in, just stupid. If I was passionate, I could set up a few decoys, use a call and get the to come to me, but they do anyway, so whats the point? Thats all I'm saying.
  3. Fair enough, if it is that bad, I don't agree with it.
  4. I said 50 yards, not 100. As I said, I think the bow hunting might be a challenge, so it might be fun. I don't think shooting a standing bird with a shotgun is fun or challenging. I'm sorry if your hunting is hard, but mine is not. I know where they hang around, so if I feel like shooting one, I just grab my gun, get as close as I can and I shoot one, or two. I don't see how calling them would do any good, or scouting. It would be like watching a crowd of deer in the middle of the field, then scouting the area that I already know they are there, then calling them even though they are coming to me anyway. That is why I don't find them fun or a challenge. Sorry but thats just me.
  5. Why so complicated??? Not sure if MT is included in that but if it is, then the one field I have permission to hunt I can't hunt anymore because the farmer did a bad cut job?? What advantage are we getting here, decoys are an advantage, hevi-shot shells are an advantage, chokes are an advantage. I don't see how an unharvested field is an advantage, they are still going to land and eat there, I see nothing wrong with getting your limit while they are doing that. Plus it keeps the birds in the air for other hunters. So far, we can't make flooded fields, we can't "manipulate" a field, whats next? We can't hunt their favorite places to feed because that too is an unfair advantage? We shouldn't be allowed to use decoys and calls because those are both an unfair advantage. I can understand the flooded fields if it does cause welfare birds. But a farmer not harvesting his field because it hasn't fully matured, we should still be allowed to hunt it. I could see how other people would take an advantage of that and purposefully cut their field badly, which might cause a problem. This post is getting complicated and I'm not going to change any views here so I'll just finish my season, (only 6 days left) and see what kind of regulations there are next season, and try to follow them as best I can.
  6. Is that an insult? I just never find them hard to hunt. I use the 17 because I find it more challenging to put a 17 grain pill through a gobblers head then to shoot one in the head with a shotgun pattern the size of my chest, with a scope for some. I've only shot two, got them both on the same hunt, and that is when I found out that they aren't that fun, or hard, to hunt. I just stalked them to about 50 yards, sighted on the bigger tom and smoked him, I was allowed to take both in the fall, and since the smaller tom just kinda stayed there instead of running off, I shot him too. If I hunt them again, I'm going to use a bow and the turkey guillotine, that might be challenging and fun. I find flying birds more challenging and a heck of a lot funner to shoot. Deer are pretty fun, prairie dogs are really fun, turkey are okay but flying birds, especially ducks, are my passion.
  7. Many of the problems seem to be shooter error. Like not shouldering the gun right, bumping the butt of the gun before you fire. Some guns just need a little tweaking. There are lots of people on here that have never ever once had a problem. The inertia system is a little touchy, but it takes a half of the time to clean then any other auto loader. I'm not saying the gun is fool proof, but it is a great gun. There are many people who complain about the 1100 too, just go find a forum. I know I will never get a remington shotgun, they used to make a good gun, but my brother has two remington 870s, his 20 gauge doesn't fire in marginally cold weather, and his 12 jams all the time. I have yet to hear anything good on the newer remington 1100s.
  8. What size shot, what birds do you shoot, what kind of shells do you use? Thanks
  9. Does Tom do his own email or does he have a few people email you for him. I couldn't imagine doing all those shows, having a personal life, and emailing tons of people everyday. I can barely keep up with 10 friends that email me. I just asked Benelli if they are planning on making an overbored shotgun anytime soon.
  10. I haven't shot one, but I have held one and played around with it. It definately felt like a good gun. I have always heard with the inertia system that the lighter the gun, the more you will feel the recoil. But if you aren't bothered by recoil, I would definately get one.
  11. It is nothing important, I was just wondering how long it usually takes for them to write back.
  12. I don't find toms that fun to shoot. Here we can take both turkeys in the fall with just about anything. I shoot them in the head with my .17 HMR. But thats just me. Mudhen, I sent you a Private message.
  13. How long does it usually take benelli to reply to you? I wrote them last week and just wondering when I should get a reply. I also emailed Tom Knapp, how long does he usually take to reply? I can understand it taking a while because of how many both recieve, just wondering how long.
  14. It seems to me that people have the least amount of trouble with Federals. I think benelli made their guns to shoot federals.
  15. Do you hunt geese? If so, what size shot do you use and how does it work for you? I mostly use #2 3-1/2 with a modified and they do pretty well out of my Nova. When I hunt ducks I like to use #4 and it does well too. I use T shot sometimes but the #2 winchester supremes shoot plenty far with a modified choke. If the #2 pattern well out of a SBE II, I might just have to get one of them and learn to use it right. Easier cleaning would be nice. Plus I liked my uncles SBE a lot.
  16. Great video! Now all they need to do is make an overbored barrel for the SBE II and I'll be sold. That is my #1 reason to get the beretta, #2 is the reliability.
  17. So, outlawing it would do what? Make them so they have to harvest the grain, or not allowed to make the impoundment. Around here, the geese eat winter wheat, the winter wheat is available to them all through the winter and summer and is harvested in fall. I have yet to see any "welfare geese" here. There is a pond in the city here that has more ducks then you can shake a stick at. There are three fast food places next door and these ducks get to eat french fries every day. When it freezes over, they leave. Even though they can still get fed. There are ponds like that all over, whether the ducks leave or not. Doesn't it hurt the population? Not that I know of.
  18. I was talking about the SBE II, the Xtrema 2 is $1200 without the kick off and $1500-1600 with it. I'll most likely get the one without.
  19. I like the fit of both, the beretta fits a little better. Where can I see these Tom Knapp videos? I only have the mens channel. I have seen him once on the history channel and he shot the gun behind his back. As I have said before, I like cleaning guns, maybe its the fumes but I find it kinda fun and any time I watch tv, I'll pull out a gun and clean it. Anyone happen to shoot their guns upside down? Or anything? Next time one of you is at the gun range. If you wouldn't mind, try shooting your benelli upside down, odd angles, behind the back, not shouldered well, but only if you want to. I just want to be sure before I get a $1500 gun that it does what I expect it to.
  20. So what would you compare the 3-1/2 goose load recoil to? Without the kick off. Thanks
  21. I don't get the difference between hunting in a field that a farmer created to make some money and one that you made to lure in ducks and geese. They both lure in the birds the same. I hardly ever use decoys and calls, usually, I find a good place on the river that the ducks and geese like to fly and wait until some pass over, I do very well, and if I had a dog that would retrieve birds, I would shoot the ones that are over water and I would get my limit very quickly. I don't get whats with the fat cats being the only ones doing the impoundments. If my family owned the land we lived on (we rent it) we would be able to plant a barley field and flood it, at most it would cost 1-2 thousand dollars. Thats about the price of a SBE II. You could even split the cost between a few hunting buddies. If these birds would get used to "baiting" I don't see the difference of farmed crops and unfarmed crops. They are both "baits" whether you use them or not. If we can't use unfarmed crops, we shouldn't be allowed to hunt on farmed crops. I don't agree with people making money off of it like the "fat cats" but I see nothing wrong with a few guys making some land into a duck haven. But in order to take one, we must take the other.
  22. What I mean by upside down, is further then straight up. You may not be as flexible as me, but I have gun past the point of straight up. It was easier to say upside down. And when I am laying in a goose blind, I follow the birds even when they have flown past, and the gun is actually upsidedown. Don't get me wrong, the SBE II is a great gun, and yes easier to clean, but I don't want to have to worry about shouldering my gun right so it will actually shoot. Plus I like the overbored beretta a lot more because of the large shot size I use. And I like cleaning guns, so if it takes me a little longer, I have no problem with that. I am definately going with the Beretta.
  23. Yes you can. The gun was designed to use as semi-auto for heavy hitting buckshot and slugs, and they made it so it could be used as a pump for lower velocity rounds like rubber buckshot, tear gas, bean bags, ect. So, you can use it either way. Must be an awesome gun!
  24. I know that the SBE II can be used for a skeet gun, but I think if he wants a semi-auto skeet gun, he should buy a semi-auto skeet gun. The super sports would do much better because that is what they are made for. The SBE was made to be a hardcore waterfowl gun using magnum loads. The super sports were made to shoot skeet with light target loads. Just my two cents.
