Do Baiting Laws Need to Be Changed?
Liberty or death Jr. replied to tucker301's topic in Waterfowling
So, say I have a 500 acre plot that has almost no animals on it. Instead of being allowed to plant some corn/wheat/barly/sunflower to draw in some game on my property. I have to go all out and actually farm it so that I am legal. Or, I have to go to public hunting areas and compete with other hunters for a good spot. No thanks. I really don't see anything wrong with tossing a bag of corn into a pond to draw in some ducks. You get to shoot a few and a few get fed but don't stay as you said on the flooded fields. But if I want to be allowed to draw in game on my property, they are going to be allowed to have their flooded hunting fields. Perhaps we could limit them somehow but I don't see how we would do that. Maybe we shouldn't be allowed to use decoys or calls either. -

I don't really see what is wrong with it. Whats the difference between planting sunflower for doves, corn for deer, and wheat for pheasant and geese? When the farmers here plant winter wheat, it really draws the geese in. The tall wheat holds loads of pheasant. The sunflower holds loads of doves and the corn gets the deer nice and fat. I don't see the difference between finding a farmer to let you hunt a field that he planted and flooded for harvesting purposes that draws in ducks or planting one in your own field for the soul purpose of hunting ducks. -
Which SBE 2 barrel length for skeet/trap/sporting clays
Liberty or death Jr. replied to DBW's topic in Benelli
If you want a semi-auto though, I would look at benelli's super sport and super sport 2. They are made for the lighter target shells, and they come with the longer barrels which are better for most clay shooters. I wouldn't use the SBE II for a range gun. -
Another SBE II vs. Beretta Xtrema 2

Thank you sdkidaho, I have made my decision. I spend at least 15 minutes cleaning my gun every 3-4 trips or if it is really wet or dirty I will give it a thorough scrubbing. I kinda like cleaning guns so if it does take a while longer, I don't mind. As for the Kick off, I am going to have to pass, its not worth the extra $400. By the time I am old and sensitive, they will have a gun that doesn't kick at all and I'll buy it. -
Another SBE II vs. Beretta Xtrema 2

What about shooting? I know you could shoot clays all day without cleaning a SBE II but what about the beretta? Where are you sdkidaho? One thing I like to is I can pick up a beretta for about $1200 without the kick off system, which wouldn't make a difference anyway. -

The kick doesn't matter at all to me, I currently use a nova with the standard butt pad shooting 3-1/2 and the kick doesn't really bother me. I am really torn between the two, I'm not a fan of gas operated, but the beretta is overbored which is good because I usually use large shot sizes and the gun isn't required to be shouldered perfectly. But the Benelli is way easier to clean and it doesn't get very dirty so I could shoot it all day without a problem, and I kinda like that it is crio treated. I am mainly worried about how the inertia performs at odd angles, like upside down. I see the beretta can be shot upside down. Haven't seen the benelli shot that way. Thanks -
I read through the other post on this subject but did not get the answer I was looking for. I mainly goose hunt and I would like to soon get a semi-auto and my question is, which is more reliable. I know that the SBE needs to be shouldered right to shoot right. What about different angles? Does the gas operated need to be shouldered right to shoot. While I hunt I accidently bump the butt and I take over the head shots at some odd angles and would like a gun that goes bang every time. I know that if you bump a benelli it might get unseated and not fire. Does the beretta do that to? I like my Nova but want to upgrade to a semi-auto. My uncle has an old beretta and a new SBE II, both seemed to work fine last year when we went goose hunting. The old beretta did stovepipe twice though. But I think that is because it was 10 years old. Thanks

Don't use 'pass' for 'decoy'ing birds...
Liberty or death Jr. replied to mudhen's topic in Waterfowling
I usually use winchester super X, Drylock, HV, and supreme. I don't like spending that much on shells, and the Supreme 3 and 3-1/2 do awesome. I was just looking for something a little more tighter for the higher shots. I think the Decoy would do just fine because it is a little tighter then the modified I use and the modified works quite well. So you answered my question. Thanks -
I don't believe that they make a slug barrel for the stoeger P-350. They do make one for the M-2000 but I don't know if it fits on the P-350.

The montefeltro silver in 20 gauge looks like a legacy, and with a shock absorbing butt pad, it shouldn't have much of a kick. And it only weighs 5.6 lbs.

What about us northern hunters? I've still got 3 weeks of duck and goose hunting left. I plan on making the most of it. -

I am talking about the primos dead zone passing choke and decoy choke. I would like to see what they do on paper before I buy one or both. Here is a link to their website. http://www.primos.com/gear.php?cPath=28_95_114&sid=6df6cf49affa4545ffa27ecda021c898 -
LMAO, that was funny tucker.

So basically its like shooting fish in a barrel?

Don't blame the choke, you didn't get your lead right. lol. Anyway, Mudhen, which do you like better, the decoy choke or the passing choke. I mainly hunt geese. You wouldn't happen to have pictures or a link to show what both chokes do on paper at 20, 40 and 60 yards? -
Favorite bird to shoot?

I did pretty good again. I never seem to be able to get my fourth goose. http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k52/bbmcgrath/DCP_1019.jpg -
It seems every forum has its ********. I have not seen one post that answers that question. I completely forgot about the chart Tucker posted. My mistake. He also pointed me in a direction to where I can get extended chokes. So thank you Tucker.

Does anyone know if the extended sporting crio choke tubes fit in the nova or SBE II?

I guess we all have been doing a bit of pheasant hunting. My dad and I went yesterday. He shot his second pheasant ever. That the only one we got but we had a great time. Went goose hunting with my brother the other day. He got 3 ducks and 2 geese and I got 2 geese and 2 ducks. It was pretty good. -
"All the nova post i have read had nothing but good things to say about the nova & super nova on this website? must have been a different website??" I have to say I couldn't be happier with my nova. It is the best pump gun I have ever had.
-
It must be a malfuncion with the gun. My nova has never jammed and never failed to fire any round I put in there. I use 3" and 3 1/2" winchesters and federals. I am sorry I am not much help as I don't know guns very well. I had the same thing happen to a charles daly 20 gauge after I field stripped it and it never worked right again. every 3-4 s**** jammed in the chamber and would not eject and sometimes 2 s****s would come out of the magazine tube and jam up the gun. Is it possible that you lost a part or does the gun have any rust anywere. I think that is the reason my charles daly doesn't work right anymore. Is your gun rusted in the action anywere?
-
I don't know why the kick even matters. I could understand if you are quite old and would like a little less pounding on the shoulder but I am 16 years old and 180 lbs and I have a benelli nova and I shoot 3-1/2 mags almost everytime I hunt, I know what a kick is. The nova IMHO kicks a lot harder then an automatic with comfortech and I don't find the kick even bothersome. It might be the fact that that feeling the kick of a big old gun is half the reason I hunt but come on, the kick can't be that bad can it????
-
Thank you Tucker, My question is answered. One thing he didn't answer though is velocity and power. I am sure there isn't really any difference though.
-
Is there any difference in performance between barrel lengths? I always thought a long barrel like a 32 incher would have more velocity and distance and a shorter barrel like a 22 incher would have larger patterns and less velocity because it burned less powder in the barrel. I heard the 26 incher got the maximum velocity, full powder burn and good distance. Have I heard wrong?

I was just going to comment on that, I couldn't figure out where though. Its quite annoying.
