Freakmode: Could I suggest you go to Briley.com and look at their chokes? I love 'em. They make 'em to fit all kinds of shotguns and the extended-ported ones look AND perform beautifully! Fast service too. Got them for my Montefeltro 20 and really like them.

Reminds me of the old Timex (watch) add: "Takes a licking, and keeps on ticking!"

Shims: To be honest, I would wish for even more stock-drop myself... wish they made an "E" shim! Wonder what would happen if we ground off the titties on the "C" shim (which prevent installing two shims) and installed it along WITH the "D" shim??? There would be a lot of 'black' showing between the stock and receiver, but it might help us get the drop we're looking for. Some of the Forum Senior experts like Tucker, M1014, Novaking, Cleefurd, etc. might have some ideas about the feasibility of this maneuver. Hope they'll respond with some coaching on this. I am still having to mount the gun pretty high on my shoulder to be able to look down the barrel, although the 'D' shim is much better than the 'C' shim for me... just not quite enough correction. On the choke pattern issue: If your skeet and IC chokes are patterning the same... it makes me wonder if you might be patterning too close? Back up to 30-40 yards and see if you see a difference. Takes a little time for the pellets to spread out to their full potential for a given choke. Just a thought.

I sense that there is a nice guy in there somewhere. Hope he shoots better than he writes! I'm pretty sure that he does. Buncha' keys on the keyboard... only ONE on a shotgun. "ain't much"

Welcome to the forum. I quail hunt down here in Texas and have settled on the improved cylinder choke. It is a bit of a compromise between skeet and mod. It gives a nice wide pattern for covey breaks and close range work, but yet holds the pattern enough for longer range shots probably better than skeet. Shims: My Montefeltro Silver 20 gauge came with the "C" shims installed but I got the shim kit with it. When I mounted the gun, I was looking AT the barrel instead of DOWN it. I installed the "D" shims, lowering the stock a bit, and that seemed to help. Read the manual and it will help you through all that if you want to try it. Hope you enjoy your new gun... I sure like mine!

... when it doesn't go "click!"

You are one lucky guy, Tucker. If I did that, Wife would be a bit disgusted with me. I have to rinse outside and hang 'em in my shop. After being married for 44 years, I have learned valuable lessons about how to make it all work. When "Momma" is happy, then we all are (actually just the two of us now... "empty nest.") When "Momma" is NOT happy, then nobody is allowed to be! I've learned to say things like, "You are absolutely right, Dear." and... "I don't know, how DO I feel about that." All a part of keeping it together I guess. She's great and I love her but I could NOT get away with waders in HER shower. Enjoy it if YOU can!!!

How long did it take you to get your shot gun?!?!
MontefeltroPro replied to ffemtopy's topic in Benelli
Man that's strange? I ordered my Montefeltro Silver 20 gauge that same week that you ordered. I was told it would take approximately two weeks... but, it arrived in ONE week! Must have something to do with what kind of gun? I ordered from Able Ammo (Ableammo.com). They are good folks and when I accidentally fell on my first outing with it and scratched the **** out of my forend, they got a new one for me in about a week as well. They are good folks that seem to have a "quick" line with Benelli. -

see next post... I had a "misfire!" (NOT a Benelli "click.") -
You're right... I need to lighten up. Sorry, M1014.

Smoke this, M1014: Senior members on this web are normally very helpful and smart. Show me some of that. We don't need history and a bunch of braggert crap, just some help and advice from time to time. If you can't give any, then maybe "let it go."
-
Cylinder will most certainly give you a wider pattern... but, if you let the birds get a bit farther out, you will have holes in your pattern. IC (improved cylinder) is the way to go. Just my opinion. I think it's a great compromise pattern... wide enough for close range, but tight enough for long range. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, Amen. Let cooler heads prevail. Give them a chance. Then if it is not right, we want to hear about it. Lay back, Dude. Be cool. See what happens.

Thanks, 3 oz. I think we both maybe need to change our "handles." I most certainly am no "pro" in these ranks, and your "3 oz." moniker is leaving you open to too much flack. I had never heard of a Mythos before. One of the definitions of the word "myth" is "an untruth." Maybe THAT name should also be changed if it is a great as you say it is. Food for thought... wonder why THAT name was chosen in the first place? How about "DaVinci."... yeah...that's a good name for a shotgun... isn't it??? I going to stick to my Rembrandt! Best Wishes. Thanks, Novaking. It's pretty obvious to me why you, Tucker, and others are "Senior" in status on this web. You guys know your stuff and have a good head on your shoulders. I am humbled by your wisdom. (Retired university music professor who hunts birds, fishes, and golfs.)

Three ounces of WHAT, Sir Tuck? ... (Bourbon?, Vodka?, Scotch?, etc.?)
-
Wait a minute, gundoc. Harleywood asked about target ammo..."just for fun. Targets, clays, etc." Your 'man-killer-perscription' might be a bit too heavy in those applications. Haven't seen anyone at our ranges using these two shells on clays. Bird-shot/skeet shells might be better 'just for fun' and a lot cheaper.
-
Well, yea... and I wanted to play the game... come on! Nobody hurt here.

I'm sorry, Novaking... there was a typo in my reply. I meant that I was not understanding the math behind (not "being") the discussion. Upon re-reading it all, I now understand the bit of sarcasm involved. I'm usually pretty quick but I missed this one. Didn't mean to be "ugly." Took me a while to pick up on all this. Glad the Mythos reference was (finally) posted so I could understand what he was talking about. Never heard of a "Mythos" before.

Hey, M1014, shouldn't we be giving credit to Duggan for a good sense of humor? Lordy, at my age, with the coke-bottle cataract in my left eye (had the right one fixed already!), most bright things are viewed as a five-point star anyway! Give it time, Duggan, and it will ALL look that way! But seriously, "ported at the bottom to ADD muzzle lift"?? This doesn't make good sense does it? I'm certainly no firearms expert, but the thought comes to mind... if that IS the actual result... why not port at the TOP and REALLY reduce muzzle lift. I would be very interested in your reply and ("Dean") Tucker's reply to this notion.

Hang on here, Dudes. ?Somebody's? math ain't quite right here. This all does not "compute." Please explain the numbers being all this reasoning (or lack of same).

Thanks, admin. I use Firefox on my other machine, so I tried it and your site is loading fine. Looks good.
-
Thanks, Tucker. Guess I got a computer compatability problem. It's fast on everything but this new site. Chaps me to have to wait so long to see what you've said to folks!
-
Getting better... loaded in 5 minutes! Was fast before new site... now slow. I do Navigator.

Don't feel bad, leftie, I'm 63 and tried to "cheat" by looking at pictures ALL OVER the internet and I cannot find any that look like this. Must be some "no longer available" shotguns. I give up!!! There are a lot of guys on this forum that "know their stuff"... guess I'm not one of them!
