  1. Mine seem to loosen up too. I shoot a (new) Montefeltro Silver 20 gauge. I bought some new Briley extended and ported chokes and got a Briley wrench in the deal as well. I was able to put a little more torque on the choke with the Briley wrench. I shot two or so boxes through it dove hunting in the South Zone of Texas last week... still tight. Then the second day of hunting, it loosened. I don't know the answer, except maybe torque it down occasionally? Look at: Briley.com to see the wrench... I think it's pretty good. It gives you more leverage and works with the supplied chokes that come with the Benelli as well.
  2. Love my Benelli and all the accessories but I must say that I was much happier with the old site. This new one takes too long to load. Wonder if that can be improved? I can tell it is better... once you get there, but the last loading took an honest 8 minutes! And, I have a FAST machine... the old site loaded instantly. Also, I notice on the new site that the same items in the store, as in the old site, (MOST of them actually) are STILL out of stock. Were I a "Benelli-worker," I would work to improve the ease of loading of the new website, and restock all of the "out of stock" items. Just my two cents.
  3. The recoil pad that came on it has quite a curve to it: while it is only 3/8" in the middle, it flairs to 5/8" at the top and bottom. When shoot it, I seem to be more in contact with the lower (5/8') portion. A thinner butt plate with less curve is what I am looking for. I am really used to a flatter butt plate... never had a "recoil pad" on previous shotguns.
  4. I am interested in this because my Montefeltro Silver 20 gauge is just a tad long for me... I am looking for a thin butt plate that will reduced the length of pull 1/4" or so. Anybody know where I can find one? I'd rather NOT whittle on the stock at all because I don't think I need that much adjustment. Recoil is NOT an issue for me so I think a butt plate of ANY material will be fine.
  5. Love my new Montefeltro Silver 20 gauge! I use it for quail and dove hunting and have done some skeet with it. It's just a little long for me... I need just a 1/4 or 3/8" less LOP. Does anyone know where I might look to find a thin butt plate for this gun? I'd love to have walnut or ivory but plastic would be just fine. I only need to gain a fraction of an inch to get the correct length of pull for my small frame. Recoil is absolutely NOT an issue for me. The other thing is that I have noticed that the stock recoil pad, being a rather porous rubber, snags on my clothing and I often am not able to find the "pocket" of my shoulder, ending up with a sore upper arm (outside the shoulder-pocket). The gun is just a little too long and I need something shorter and "slicker" on the surface of the back end. I am very reluctant to shorten the stock... I think a slimmer butt plate would fix it. What are your thoughts and what would you recommend? Thanks in advance for any advice you can send.
  6. I see you are getting no replies. My humble Montefeltro Silver has a floating carbon rib and I wonder if yours has the same system? I really don't know about your high-dollar gun. What if you tried loosening the screws at the front of the barrel (see your manual) that secure the rib, and shoving the rib tighter towards the receiver, then re-tighten. If this happened to mine, that is what I would try... your mileage may vary. Sorry but I just don't know your gun and few other people will either... we can't afford them!
  7. Amen to that! My Benelli is "sweet" on my shoulder and recoil is just NOT an issue. I also don't understand where all that other-opinion stuff comes from.
  8. Man, hate to hear that. I lost a student way back in the 70s who was trying to duck hunt in high surf and drowned. Still think about that kid now and then. We gotta' be careful about 'testing' nature and know when to quit (although I realize weather may or may not have had anything to do with this case). Please pass along details when they become available. This sort of thing doesn't usually make CNN so we won't hear about it here in Texas.
  9. If she found out... would you be in trouble?
  10. We have a choke-specialist company here in the Houston area that has some really fine products: Briley has a variety of chokes for ALL brands and they also sell a wrench that will torque those babies in tight enough so they won't loosen in use. Also, choke lube, chokes cases, etc. Try Briley.com and have a look. I am into their ported extended chokes (in my case, for the Benelli Montefeltro)... they make them for all brands. They reduce recoil (a tiny bit) and muzzle lift as well. Good patterns and kick-ass "looks." They're pretty and make your gun look mean.
  11. Novaking... like your sense of humor! Ziebart (car) undercoating would probably be even better.
  12. You know, and this is just a guess, but is it possible that he is "spooked" by the appearance of the rotary bolt? It DOES look a lot different that other bolts.
  13. Man, this is crazy. I am going on a south-zone dove hunt close to the (southern) border here in Texas tomorrow where we expect 76 degrees and our biggest problem will be keeping cool!!! I can't imagine all that freezing stuff you guys have to put up with. But I know you enjoy hunting what you can when you can, just like we do here down south. Best to all.
  14. Yes, Merry Christmas to all! Hope Santa brings you everything you NEED and at least half of what you WANT! (We are ARE a bunch of big-WANTERS, now aren't we?) Best to all. Already got my new Benelli for Christmas... had to order it (Montefeltro Silver 20 ga.) and got it in November.... Mama (wife) said, "I'm NOT giving you a gun for Christmas... go ahead and use it"... so I did. Wifes can be funny about such. Just (as always) trying to keep Momma happy, and when we can do that and be HAPPY ourselves, that's great, now isn't it! (Didn't tell her how much it cost!!!)
  15. This whole "argument" reminds me of when I argue with my wife. The modus-operandi seems to always be: "Don't confuse me with facts... my head is "made up." (And SHE usually wins... life is easier that way!!!) Have enjoyed the discourse from both sides of the barrel-length question, actually. I have always thought that longer guns hold a tighter pattern longer... just my "head-made-up" opinion. I've done no study on the subject so I tend to want to respect those who have. Merry Christmas All.
  16. Recently bought a new Benelli Silver Montefeltro. Shoots high. There were previous posts that related to this issue. The gun comes with shims for the needed adjustment. The gun came with the "C" shim in it. After study and consultation, it took it apart and put in the "D" shim. Great results!!!: Now, when I mount the gun, I no longer am looking AT the barrel, but DOWN it like it should be! Don't know why they sell this gun with the particular shim installed, but at least we are supplied with the remedy. I wonder... do Italians have shorter necks than we do???? If you are having the same problems you can fix it... it ain't rocket science. You'll need a 13 mm deep socket, a phillips screwdriver, and some vaseline (or K-Y jelly if you are "over-sexed"). Follow the instructions in the manual. Good results should happen.
  17. I appreciate you comments yet once again! Good points and expressed very well. Thanks!
  18. Makes good sense to me. Thanks for the reply. But, I'm still going with my pistol defense given the close quarters I am restricted to. I can pull that trigger real fast, with either hand and around corners (with my body out of the way). Thanks, dude. MontefeltoPro
  19. If making people THINK causes "touble" (obviously, meant to be "trouble"), then yes, I want to do that. That's just the kind of guy I am.
  20. Sorry... you were supposed to laugh a LOT! Except for my sincere reply to Conny.
  21. Yes, I have something to say to you: Weak argument. You say shotguns have been used for over a hundred years for home defense BUT then give the military usage as an example. That's weak. Poor argument. Hope you and yours are safe and strong. Won't argue about the usage... depending on your preferences, shotguns CAN be great defense weapons if you can heft them in a hurry. If you prefer a shotgun, then that's your choice. I'm a pistol man when it comes to home defense. In America, we still (at least for now) give folks a choice about such. Stay well and stay warm. Thanks for the reply. I will pray for you. Merry Christmas! MontefeltroPro (also a Vietnam vet who just MIGHT be even older that YOU, young man!)
  22. Yep, after some thought, you are right. I am wrong... sort of. But it sure has been fun getting you guys all stirred up! I have been rather "narrow-minded" in my postings but I am sure getting a lot of very good opinions which are very enlightening. I just wish that my hunting contemporaries would contribute more stuff on the forum. You tactical guys seem to have the "right of way." So... you got it. You express yourself very well and make really good points. Thanks for the reply. I have learned a lot from all this. I'll get out of your way and find a hunting thread where I can contribute significantly. Out of your way -- MontefeltroPro P.S. One question about YOUR reply: what is the difference in stopping power and killing power? (Seemed to me to be a weak point in your argument.)
  23. O.K., Noob, I'll come clean. All this was brought about by a bit of mischief triggered by a small amount of frustration. I have a new Benelli bird gun which I love and visit the forum almost every day since. I became frustrated that hunters don't contribute as frequently as tactical guys. The replies that I have gotten to my posts have actually peaked my interest in the tactical shotgun world. Thanks for that. It has been an interesting thing, getting you guys so stirred up! BUT... look at all the good input, opinions, and contributions that my "tongue-in-cheek" posts have elicited! This has been the best reading thread I have seen. On the one hand, I regret being so "preachy", but then again, look what it triggered! (And I got "preached to" right back... and pretty good!!!) Some really good postings were contributed from BOTH sides of the fence. I have NO aversion to shotguns as a choice for home defense, actually. No, I don't think it's a criminal act to have a defense weapon in the home. My home is not spacious and I am of small frame, so I keep my S & W 9mm (15 shot) in my nightstand. Personally, I would find a shotgun rather unwieldy for home defense in my situation. I know the 9mm cartridge doesn't have much stopping power, but 5-6 of them do! I am in a relatively very safe area AND a local policeman lives (and parks his patrol car) two doors down. Highway patrol fellow lives a few doors in the other direction and parks his patrol car out front also. I choose the 9mm over my shotguns, or 44 Mag, or 357 mag, because I can shoot it with one hand, I can shoot it with either hand, I can shoot it fast, and I can shoot it around corners if needed, and hold a light with the other, if needed... and I can hit with it pretty good without aiming. Yes, it has been interesting. I've been called a "lady" out to hunt chimney swallows, I've been preached to by a veteran who assumes that I and much younger than he (I could be older??) and have not had the same experiences that he has... (I am also a veteran). I've been shown a picture of the guy that Cheney shot (in hopes that I won't feel safe hunting anymore???... what was that for?) Tell you what I'll do: I'll get out of your way and try to find a hunting forum thread where I belong. I promise not to bother you guys any more. It's been fun, but it is now time for you dudes to kick somebody else around for a while. I have no objection to your weapons of choice... if I had a larger house, in a high-crime area, I'd probably be right there with you. This is America and we all have a choice about MORE things than in most countries. Choice of home defense weapons is certainly one of those. It's been fun! Now go get out there and see if you can find a 15 round magazine extension!
  24. Who would want to eat THAT? It's awfully da** ugly!
