    gun oil

Normally, I think. But I had a little trouble today. Check out the current "post ban quest...." thread. I'm running out of cheeks to turn.
  2. Sorry Mike, didn't mean to be ugly or tee you off. But since you fried me pretty good, I guess we're "even." I was just having trouble following the dialogue. I should have been more appreciative of your burning desire to remain "legal," that's an admirable trait! And yes, I have small hands and my Monty fits me fine and is light enough that this old man can carry it all day in the field. I'll gladly leave the heavier guns to you young macho studs who can handle them! Have a good one. P.S. -- I AM a retired professor... but not in English.
  3. Anybody got any idea what these guys are talking about? One of them seems to ?know? The English language IS very difficult.

    gun oil

From what I read, i gather that there might be a problem with Rem-Oil in the North (low temps). We don't have that problem here, BUT, I use both Rem-Oil and Breakfree CLP with no problems down here in Texas.
  5. Pretty hip, dude! You are to be condemned... oops, I mean commended. Nice reply!
  6. Yes... I've heard they don't float!
  7. Hot-Dang, Y'all. My thought exactly... hard to tell anymore since all them northern dudes been moving down here to Texas! (Just trying to get him back for his egregious slur of our semi-wonderful state!!!). Have a goodun'. (At's Texas talk.)
  8. He didn't mind that you shot it (and probably 3 others) in July?
  9. But the limit is twelve here in Texas (not 14).
  10. Hey, Duggan, we ain't supposed to jack with the "boss!" He will slam us if we do. Wait and see.
  11. Well, if my daughters don't give me a grandson soon (they are "professional" people, 33 and 29 yrs. old, and children would be in the way right now), I WILL not know what to do with the gun upon my departure. You could be closer to it than you think... depending on developments. Keep your nose clean and don't get too excited yet. Tucker is going to kick my backside over this, isn't he? Maybe not... he probably has two Sweet Sixteens in his vault. If he keeps them in his bedroom, then Novaking will surely have him arrested!... (see earlier Novaking post).
  12. Yea, get an auto... it will free up your left hand to do more important things... (this is a straight line for jokes to follow!).
  13. Curdog -- You've got me thinking... Quail hunting behind a dog on horseback? I'd consider it if they made saddles with a donut seat and a backrest! Got you beat by 2 years on the 'who's the oldest' contest. Yep, I'm only 63 but I gotta' lotta' miles on me! If I stay on the ground I'm going to have a shorter distance to fall, right? All in fun, have a good one! Stay "young" as long as you can... now, where's my Preparation-H?
  14. I recently built a 4' X 4' patterning frame from two-by-fours and used iron T-posts to mount it. Fixed it so that we can remove the frame (wing nuts) and just leave the T-posts in the ground so they'll be there next time. Found a big four-foot wide roll of paper at a teacher supply store. Did all this for around $20 or so. Learned that my Montefeltro now shoots where I aim it, BUT, I did end up changing chokes because of what I saw. Patterning IS the way to go.
  15. Beautiful, Mudhen! Nice work. These pics are great.
  16. Tucker... I AM amazed! How in the world is a Comp Tech supposed to know all this detailed stuff about every brand of shotgun in the world? You are TOO MUCH! How have you found time to learn all this stuff? (You married the boss's daughter, didn't you?)
  17. Do you think he's maybe referring to the 'wanton' abuse that so many "power-hungry" warden's seem to want to wield? ...as in "I am the LAW and you are a piece of ****.)
  18. Since you don't have a D shim, I like Mudhen's suggestion that you do a little shaving down on another C shim (on the BOTTOM) and put two in there... that oughta' do it! And if you're still shooting high, try a bigger front sight. Sure like the one I got (HiVix CompSight, PM1002 -- comes with interchangeable lite tubes that vary in size so you can find the one you like.) My previous gun, like yours, was also a Browning. A Sweet Sixteen (A-5 frame). Guess that's why we need all this drop... those Brownings have tons of drop with that big receiver sitting WAY up there. Guess we got very accustomed to that. Your squirrel hunting on horseback sounds like fun. At my (advanced) age, I think I'll just stay on the ground and keep chasing quail & dove. Hope this all works out for you... be patient and keep working on it and you'll find the right combination to make that gun HIT! I think it's a great thing the Benelli is this flexible on fitting. Have a good one.
  19. Curdog -- I am currently using two shims in my new Montefeltro Silver. Same problem... looking at a lot of rib and needing to lower the stock. I used the C & D shims (together)... rather "drastic" but just what I needed. A and B shims don't do much for drop. They are thicker at the bottom (rather than the top) and seem to go the wrong direction for this correction. All you have to do is shave off the titties so they will fit together. Also installed a Hi-Viz CompSight, PM 1002, which also helped to raise the point of impact a bit more. It is a larger sight and has the effect of lowering the zero point. Hope this helps. Worked for me. I am dropping more birds now!
  20. Sarcasm is not permitted on this forum unless your name is Tucker.
  21. Well, gee, Duggan, come on down here to Texas! Going quail hunting the next four days (low temp=@45, high=@74)... seasons over but we go to a hunting preserve to hunt pen-raised birds and can do that (legally, I might add) through March here in Texas. We got a good dog too. Thanks for the explanation on what you were doing. I have to admit... I was a bit alarmed by the tone of all this until you cleared that up for me. Old people like me don't do Terminator stuff. I had no idea... I was clueless. Now I understand. My favorite movie is Blazin' Saddles! I sure am glad that Swartzenager is not OUR governor... I think we actually have some of the most liberal hunting laws in the country. Come on Down!
  22. Well, yes, I want to live... but NOT in NY! I guess 63 year-olds (me) often have problems communicating with 23 year olds (you)? Seen you do some really good posts... this may not be one of them. Just can't figure out your intent in all this. Ready to learn if you want to enlighten me. No malice here... what is there? Have a good one.
  23. Sorry, Adam, can't help with a reply on the love for the Ruger. The only Red Label I've had any experience with is Johnny Walker. Enjoyed my Ruger Redhawk immensely, however, until it was stolen. Welcome to the forum, by the way.
  24. They certainly are... however, the Sweet Sixteen (w/o the vent rib) was the lightest shotgun on the market 40 years ago! My new Monty is 2 pounds lighter and I can really feel the difference... I don't get near as tired on the 3-4 hour quail hunts! Makes a big difference. And, it mounts and swings fast. Wish it were easier to unload and not be so finicky about the bolt thing. I have learned to tap on the bolt (forward) now and then so it won't "click" the next time I fire... seems to be working. Shouldn't have to, for what I paid for it! Why can't they fix this problem, one might wonder? (Tucker, Mudhen, Splash, Duggan, or somebody will probably tell us why... I have no idea why but this seems to be a recurrent issue with many Benelli owners.)
