m4p226n
Here's my opinion about adding a lot of extras to a stock Benelli M4: If it isn't a functional improvement, why add mods? Duggan
Ok, rate my m4. Full length tube and spring, enlarged bolt handle, enlarged bolt release. It must be your wet dream, as those are the three main functional improvements, if you want to call them that.
m4p226n
Terrific shotgun you have there Duggan. My kind of weapon. Enjoy it in good health.
Renault
Here's my simple credo about adding all manner of junk to a perfectly good Benelli M4: If it isn't a functional improvement, don't add it. I realize that this may anger the teenagers and members of the 'Video Games Rock' generation. Well, frankly, I don't care. Hey, tell me where to go and where I'm wrong. But be prepared to defend your argument. Greg I'm going to add a cupholder for my rockstar's... and a pouch for my i-pod Functional right? m4p226n
Hey I have an idea for you - I heard that some folks buy a speedfeed stock and put their lip gloss in it instead of an extra round. Whatever floats your boat, I say.
Mike Grasso
If it isn't a functional improvement, don't add it. Greg What is your definition of "functional improvement"? Mg

m4p226n
What is your definition of "functional improvement"? Mike, functional improvements can certainly mean different things to different people, no doubt about it. I think we can agree though that some things aren't functional improvements, can't we? Let me try one extreme example just to start things off...how about desert camo on a weapon that will never be within 1,000 miles of a desert? What about you - can you give some examples of non-functional improvements (an oxymoron, but you know what I mean)? Surely you can think of a few...it's kind of like pornography - hard to define but you know it when you see it.
m4p226n
...I'd add collapsible stock to the list, unless you're going to shoot with a vest or fast rope from a helicopter with it. The collapsible stock is tacticool but serves no functional purpose for the average guy. It's just one more moveable part to break.
waterfowler050
firstly whats the heat shield actually do? second isnt that stock colapsible? or are the scelitonized ones not colapsible.still it can be a $700 part without a functionable use. ERdept
...I'd add collapsible stock to the list, unless you're going to shoot with a vest or fast rope from a helicopter with it. The collapsible stock is tacticool but serves no functional purpose for the average guy. It's just one more moveable part to break. So, if you don't do all that stuff, and you're an average guy, an adjustable stock wouldn't be any help at all, even if it helps to shoulder and fit the gun more quickly? I remember many complaints and two threads on here asking how to chop the buttstock down because it's long. But, I suppose an adjustable stock just won't help because we're not fast roping and wearing armor.
m4p226n
ER, I had an M4 with a collapsible stock at one time because I got it at a terrific price. The adjustments on it were too lengthy to make it useful in the sense of making it fit better...IOW, the first step down didn't shorten it a little, it shortened it a lot. I can understand wanting to improve the LOP by shortening the stock a little for folks with shorter arms, but the collapsible stock just wasn't useful in that way. Can you think of any common mods that you run across that you might consider non-functional?
m4p226n
Mike, I was thinking about your question about the definition of functional vs. non-functional...cosmetic changes might be a good place to start. Nothing wrong with cosmetic changes per se if that's your thing...it's your gun after all...but I can't think of a cosmetic change that would be functional other than the camo finish if you're patrolling in the desert. m4p226n
Here are a few examples of what I would consider useless mods: A breaching standoff? A bayonet?
m4p226n
Yeah I know it's an 870, but here's the bayonet lug for the M4. Would this really be considered a functional accessory?
m4p226n
I loved Duggan's picture: Think this guy has an extra mod or two that he probably won't ever need?
SgtCathy
Hi There M4p226n, By any chance do you recall where you got the bolt-on bayonet attachment displayed on your shotgun? Inquiring minds with a 16+1/2 inch M1917 shotgun bayonet would be interested....

m4p226n
Nice. But do you find that the sling gets in the way more than it is useful? I only sling the gun if I'm taking a class. Otherwise as a HD weapon the sling just seems to get in my way.
