BaltoCoHunter
I've been using an 870 wingmaster for the past 25 years so it is my only point of reference. Bought a Nova on Friday and tried it out this weekend. Shot a few light dove loads and I noticed that when firing the bolt throws back about a 1/4 inch and the chamber is slightly open. I never noticed this on my 870. What will happen when I shoot a high velocity magnum 3 1/2" shell? Is this normal and is there anything I need to be concerned about? After your Nova is broken-in it will eject 3 1/2 shells if you don't hold the action forward. Congrats, you have bought a tank.
BaltoCoHunter
Thanks NovaKing. I appreciate the info. The 870 WM served me very well for 30 years and it is still a reliable gun but I was looking to try something new in camo. Now I have 2 great guns to choose from. fst96ss
I had the same question on my new Super Nova just over a week ago. I never noticed it on any other pump gun I've used either. After these guys told me it was normal, I took the gun to the range to bust some clays, as expected, it worked flawlessly.
truckcop
I used to have a Winchester 1300 and as I recall, they did the same thing. It was marketed at the time as something like "recoil assisted ejection", making for quicker action cycling and follow-up shots.
MassMark
This is by design...Think of it as a pump gun with the heart, (bolt) of a semi-auto...It makes the process smooth and short. I was shooting 3.5" magnum buckshot all day Saturday, (literally) at a local Pumpkin Shoot and the softness of the otherwise violent round was testament to the design of the SuperNova Tactical...It's an insanely nice gun. I was shooting the 3.5's so quickly, (and efficiently), that some thought I had a semi-auto - it's that good.
Novaking
I never noticed that hapening on mine. Can you elaborate on what makes this happen? Mine will move the bolt back enough to eject the shell. Its about 1 1/2 inches, right before the point that it brings the new shell up. timb99
Happens on my Mossberg 500. Everything releases on the shot so its easer to cycle the action to get a new shell in the chamber.
tyson129
If you wish for this action to not occur, hold the pump with force towards the muzzle. It will not open at all. I happen to like the way it works as it allows me to get to my next round faster. Welcome to Benelli!
