Police said they received a 911 call reporting a prowler at 1625 Union St. at about 7:50 p.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, deputies learned that 52-year-old Charles Edward Gory, of 213 Clement Line, had walked from his home to the location of the shooting and got into an argument with the resident, 43-year-old Lafayette Taylor, over a woman they both have an interest in. According to authorities, the argument became violent when Gory shot Taylor in the torso with a shotgun he had carried with him from his home. Police said the shotgun had been loaded with small bird shot, so the gunshot wound sustained by Taylor was not life-threatening. Deputies said Taylor defended himself from further attack by physically engaging Gory with his fists. Both were taken to Spartanburg Regional Hospital for treatment of their non-life threatening injuries. Police said Gory will be arrested and charged with assault and battery with intent to kill once he is released from the hospital. Continue to use this stuff for self/home defense at your own peril.
