Drundel Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 mudhen: Any more info or picts on that mallard above? Quote
mudhen Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 That's the best photo I have. We are pretty sure it is just a transgender mallard. There are no other species traits present. mudhen - CA Quote
mudhen Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 It's been slow, but this was New Year's Eve. mudhen - CA Quote
mudhen Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 A little fog in the Cali rice makes for a busy Benelli day! mudhen - CA Quote
tucker301 Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 Nice! Are those Outlaw goose decoys, or some other brand? Quote
mudhen Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 I think they are Outlaws and RealGeese. As you can see, we really don't brush our rice blind out, we think it makes the blind stand out more than if you just leave it muddy and nasty just like where the ducks and geese sit and eat and crap..... mudhen - CA Quote
Mr. Lee Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 A good day in Arkansas. Jan 2004. [/img] [/img] [ 01-18-2005, 02:40 PM: Message edited by: Mr. Lee ] Quote

Drundel Posted January 19, 2005 Posted January 19, 2005 A couple more 1/12/05 Last hunt of my season Quote
mudhen Posted January 19, 2005 Posted January 19, 2005 It has to be the gun! Shot one widgeon at 7 a.m., nothing for two solid hours, just about to leave and I see 5 widge heading for the decoys. I let them work overhead and off to my right a bit (my favorite angle - aka the one I'm least likely to miss) and start picking them off. Two with the first shot (I meant to do that, really!), one each with the next two shots, reload without even looking for #5 because I know what they do when their buddies start falling, and look right up at #5 @ 25 yards and dump #5. All 5 stone dead in the decoys. Gotta love Benellis...... mudhen - CA Quote
tucker301 Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 You're really starting to get under my skin! I was supposed to go this AM (best day in weeks), but my partner had to work, and he's the one with the boat. Around mid-morning it starting spitting snow and by 12 we had an inch on the ground with blowing snow. More of that good stuf on the way for this w/e, and I can't wait! Quote
mudhen Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 It's the gun - not me - it's like the car movie/book Christine - I have no control over it..... Cali ain't all bad.... mudhen - CA Quote
bwnr Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 A sales job just got posted for Southern Cal. If you keep posting pics like this, you'll force me to pick up shop and head west!! They grow rice in CA? Quote
Irish Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 Isn't CALROSE rice from Cali? If Mudhen's birds are an indicator it looks like Cali is a good place for bird hunting. Doesn't Cali have some weird gun laws though? Quote
bwnr Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 http://www.hunt101.com/img/243257.jpg A day last week in Arkansas rice. Quote
mudhen Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 They grow much rice in Cali. It is one of the three main rice areas in the US. Arky rice fields are better for hunting though, ours fields have high levees and take a lot of water to fill and keep filled. That Arky photo shows what the birds really like, shallow water where the feed is readily accessible. mudhen - CA Quote
