Scalar Works-Holosun HE509T-RD X2

Does anyone have this setup? If so how do you like it? I have been going back and forth on so many optics and with so many being out of stock or not being able to get certain parts and the price of these things, is driving me crazy. I really want an enclosed optic and was just going to get an EO Tech and call it a day, but my shotgun is heavy enough as it is and I really want to have a co-witness. Then I was going to get the Scalar Works RCR, but they are out of stock, then I was just going to buy the RCR and then buy the stand alone Sync mount for the RCR from Scalar Works and just slap it together myself, but now Sclar Works is out of stock on the stand alone mounts. Now the only thing Scalar Works has in stock are the two Holosun optics options and the T2. Sorry, but I'm not paying 900 bucks for a T2 red dot, just not doing it.  

So, that leaves me with the Holosun 509T. I have been watching reviews and test on it and it seems like a pretty good optic. Never really been a fan of Holosun and have always run either EO Tech or Trijicon on my rifles and pistols, but I am willing to do Holosun if I can get some feed back from guys that have run it on the Benelli. Sure it does great with 9mm pistols and maybe 556, but how does it do with running 3" magnum rounds and full power buck shot? Or is there another option out there for having your optic co witness on the Benelli? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

I am right there with you on the aimpoints absurd price

 

so get a Aimpoint duty RDS, you can find them for like $350-400 on tacswap relatively new, with a mil/leo discount or other discount you can probably get one for $450 new

thats what I am likely going to do, Eotech feels goofy on the M4 but they are great optics I got 3-4 of them.

 

besides that aimpoint acro p2, Trijicon RCR, Steiner enclosed red dot, Holosun 509T's are fine as well but would not be my first or second choice

So I did some research on the Duty RDS, and to be honest, it is an awesome red dot, but man I don't know how well it will do with the Benelli. I have been searching all night and morning for ways around this setup and who makes mounts for the Benelli and the only company that makes them is Scalar Works. Airidas, Mid West Industries, and Briley, all make mounts, but for other shotguns or for very specific optics that do not fit my wants. 

It sucks, but I just now bought the Holosun 509T set up from Scalar Works. I also signed up for email notifications for the RCR setup. That RCR is what I want, but guess I am going to have to wait forever for them to have this setup. Once the 509T comes in I'll throw some 3" magnums through it and see how it holds up. I feel like it wont, but there is only one way to find out. If it does hold up, then Holosun might find itself a new customer. I love my Trijicons and my EO Techs, but it would be nice that there is a cheaper and reliable optic out there, because im sure you all know our Trijicons and EO Techs add up in price real quick lol.

I’ve no experience with the Vortex red dots but they do offer a lifetime warranty. I suggest going to the source and contacting Holosun and vortex and inquiring as to what are the recommended maximum recoil impulse limits, e.g. can I mount this particular optic to my .50 BMG rifle? The optic manufacturers know the limits of their RDS.

It is my understanding that Scalar Works only makes sync mounts for optics that are known to work on 12 gauge shotguns. I already ordered the 509T setup from Scalar Works and we shall see how well it will do. After reading more reviews and reading articles on it it sounds like it should have no problem with holding up to 12 guage recoil.

509T is a solid optic, titanium, closed emitter, great reticle for shotgun, Holosun has a good warranty! should look great as well, looks better than alot of the other closed emitters.

haha! understand and support the premise or logic, unfortunately practically everything comes from China, hardly anything is American made, you would be surprised where alot of things come from Trijicon, Surefire internals, phone computer etc!

 

wish it was not so, but unfortunately it is what it is!

 

I actually almost worked for Holosun once, and they seemed like an American company to me, they had plans of moving manufacturing to USA as well

Yeah, I was once like that as well, but once I started walking around my house and see pretty much everything I own or use is made in China, it is kinda like, meh, at this point. But to be so gunho over not using optics made in China when most of them are made overseas or have parts that are made in China, it is whatever at this point.

I would say the primary arms over the duty. The duty is really nice, but I dont know, the duty just doesnt seem like it would hold up to shotgun use. I could totatlly be wrong, but just a thought.

i have the scalarworks sync with a holosun 503g. it has the primary arms acss reticle. its held up so far—3 yrs+ and maybe 1200 rounds give or take. i wanted to get an aimpoint but with my astigmatism i didn’t wanna spend so much just to end up lookin at a misshaped starburst.

Thanks for the info. Makes me feel better about my purchase. I have been doing a ton of research on the 509T and it should have no issues with holding up to the recoil of the shotgun. I have actually been reading a lot more on Holosuns and to be honest they are actually pretty good optics. I never gave them a time of day and always discounted them, but they are actually pretty good optics.

Trijicon and Surefire are 100% made in the USA.

The, "duuuh, muh t-shirt's made in chinuh" argument is stupid.  There's a difference between buying from an American company that has things made in China, like Tupperware, and buying from a company whose parent is a major direct supplier of optics and lasers to the PLA.

Well, I'am glade we live in a country that allows me to buy whatever I want from whoever I want. I personally have and do buy from Surefire, Triicon, EO Tech, Microtech and many other companies that make their products in America. I also buy items made in Mexico(Safariland), Taiwan (Cold Steel), Vietnam(Samsung) and from many other countries. If you dont want to, then fine, your choice, I have no problem with that. I will continue to buy, without remorse, from any company that produces a good product worth spending my money on. Heck, you have problems with giving China money, look at where our taxes go every year lol. I think that should be the bigger issue here.

I am new to shotting, anything.  I bought a Binelli M2 in 2021 and then had double rotator cuff surgery.  I shot the gun with my niece last week, who is quite experienced...I received about 30 minutes of intense safety handling before we began to shoot.

I asked her about a scope mount...I then searched and found a ScalarWorks Binelli M4/M2 SBE Micro/01 Sync mount.  Any help would be appreciated.

...incidentally, we shot from 35 yards and she was quite surprised to see my grouping...I've no idea but it was a nice compliment.  Her Walker Game Ear muffs are pretty amazing tech.

Just throwing my 2 cents in on the original topic. I have holosun HE507c-gr x2 on my M4 and the holosun Paralow HS503G on my M3. Both on scalarworks mounts and they've been rock solid. I turkey hunt with the M4 and the M3 is my "Slug gun". So they mostly get fed pretty potent loads.

I included two photos of my M2.  When I wrote scope above, I should have written Red Dot.  I am not entirely sure about what questions to ask, but I thought that I could use a Red Dot to visually pin my target and then see how far off my shooting is...

The barrel length is 18"...I have not yet removed the shell blocks.

A scalarworks mounts and whatever optic you choose would be a great combo for your M2. Red dot and reflex sights just makes sense on a shotgun in my opinion. I trust holosun per my own experience but there are other great options out there. Just get whatever fits your taste and budget. The good thing about the scalarworks mounts is that they are low enough to co-witness. So if your optic does crap out (and they ALL can) you can still use your irons. I put an XS big dot tridium front sight on my M4 so if my sight does crap out I can still clearly see my front sight through the optic. Not a great pic but you get the idea.

I have the 507 on a Scalarworks mount... I would add them to every shotgun I could. 

The circle/dot reticle is awesome and the optics really run. I love the solar option and mine have been 100%. 

I am usually a RMR guy through and through but the Holosun's are winning me over. I prefer the 507 on my Benelli M1 over the RMR on my M4... your mileage may vary.

I will take a look at those suggestions and make a purchase.  NCswamp13, I thought that I was crazy to think that a Red Dot or reflex sights useful for a shotgun...but why not?  

Unfortunately, I will not be shooting a for bit of time...fell on ice, broke my back in two places and broke 3 ribs.  I should be ready to shoot again in a couple of months.  But now I have some research to perform and a few purchases to make!

EDIT: Re optics failing...I never would have thought about that small detail.  And typically, things break when they are being used.  In this case, I can still use my gun!
