  1. i just buy 1oz loads by the case 37.99 for 250 at the local gun shop but an old timer at the club let me shoot some of his the other day after i shot about 150 rounds and i realy liked them im not shure what they were but they were quite dirty but they had almost no kick
  2. i have to agree that i site would mess me up gun/head placement --- keeping the gun moveing is way more important than trying to aim ive never seen any one shoot clays with a halo site only statonary targets

yes duncan was our first wiem we got him from a puppy mill in lancaster about 4 years ago he's a great dog he just isnt the slightist bit birdy its a shame he is very well trained in obedience and is a certified therapy dog i take him the the old folks home every sunday. he just dosent like birds. we never introduced him to birds till after we got doc who was already trained when we got him
  8. im going to start sounding like a broken record but for home defence your best bet is a mossburg 500 w/ the short bbl and a pistol grip. if you want you can get differnt bbls and stocks all over the place for that gun but for a couple of reasons that gun (your home defence gun) has no other purpose than home defence. if your out shooting skeet with it itsnt home to defend your house. i tryed it for years and had little sucess with that plan (using one gun for many tasks) i would get 2 guns one for bustin clays and one for bustin creeps. in the long run your probley going to get another one anyway and if you do blast some one in your house the police are going to take it and take there time giving it back. i would be quite upset having to give up a 600-1000$ shotgun. also shooting skeet with tactical shot gun is quite hard. ive tried to do it and it is very hard to do. a tactical shot gun is not ment to move like a clay gun tactical guns are made for large stationary targets not small flying things. just my 2cents good luck
  9. try and check if the bolt is closing all the way. also check to see if the feed ramp is hanging up on the inside of the recever any where. if its well used there may be either too much play in a spring some were or a burr hanging up the bolt.

yea he liked them a little too much i turned my back to answer the phone and he and duncan decided that the dressed birds on the cutting board were theres for the snacking. i didnt mind too much doc only scored one chucker breast before i caught them and i dont think duncan liked them very much he accualy took it off the counter and gave it to doc which is way out of the ordnary duncan is the more domanant of the two and usualy takes doc's food. duncan is a bit of a priss tho and dosent realy like raw meat i gave him some raw chickin once and he got a wicked case of the trots for a day or two.
  11. when dealing with major apliences ive found fire arms to be totaly ineffecticve i would just take a can of speer green dot poke a hole in the top stuff a fuse in it and head for the hills dont forget to up your home owners and take some dog food (the quicky mart charges too much and they never have the right brand)
  12. also dont forget that nothing strikes fear into the heart of a man like the sound of a pump gun racking

well i broke down and shot some #6s last sunday. we were hunting farm quail in nj and they were flying realy fast so i popped a #6 in the 2nd bbl just incase i had to reach out and touch somebody. i still stuck to the 8s in the 1bbl though. most of my long shots were quite long 40-50 yds i did hamburger a few though. doc enjoyed them
  14. i just have to put in my 2cents again and say that if your not that serious about what you want to do with your shot gun get a used mossburg 500 if you decide later that you want to get serious about shooting skeet or clays you will realy need to get an o/u. you should be able to get a used mossburg for aroud 150 and shoot the heck out of it for a while. also you can swap out the barrels on the mossy in about 30sec i keep myn under the bed with a 18.5 bbl on in and take my o/u out to shoot skeet and hunting and toss the mossy in the truck just incase i start to miss alot or have to hike a while (i have a neet sling set up on the mossy). the short bbl realy sprays and makes evan a crappy shot look good on the skeet field. but the recoil is punnishing after 25 shots or so . another thing to think about is weight. the mossy with the 18 or 26"bbl and plastic stocks is very light and it seems to me that i carry my gun more when im hunting than shooting it. evan on a good day in the field 20 shots is a lot and the recoil is not a problem. un like skeet or just blasting away. ill take the light weight gun over the heavy one in the field any day. evan my deer rifle is a light weight model 94 winchester carbine w/ iron sights or just my .357 revolver. i'm lazy and the hike is enough work for me and to have to lug around a 10lb gun on top of all the other junk that i take its just too much for my lazy bones. keep it simple , for a starter gun go cheep,(but not junk) easy to take care of and light to carry, go mossy.
  15. i have to agree with birddog 870's have been to war and i know a bunch of cops that use them for high risk warrents. you can get any thing for them anyware. lets face it evan though i love my ol mossy if i felt so inclined i would give it up for an 870 before any onther pump gun in a hartbeat. if you had problems with yours im shure there was somthing simple wrong with it or maby it was in need of a good overall cleaning/service or differnt loads.
  16. also never go out with only one gun i always take at least 2 shot guns on every hunting trip and a side arm. if one shot gun fails i have a back up so the trip isnt ruined and the side arm is well usualy a .357 mag revolver with a round or 2 of bird shot for snakes and other crawley things and the rest 158grn jhp for other things.
  17. good luck with customer service just make shure to call ahead and make shure you get an RO# and hound them every step of the way. make shure that you at least write down the time date and name of EVERY person that you talk to and any dates or delevery times that they promise and keep recepts of all transactons only send copys of sales recepts and make shure to send it insured and registerd mail it took me a month of hounding to get my gun back and they they said it wasnt broken and that was a crock because i had at leat 6 differnt people fire my gun before i sent it back and they all said that it wasnt right. but when i got it back all of a sudden it worked rite.
  18. my wife just bought a used beretta a303 in 20ga and that gun, is by far, the nicest shot gun ive ever fired. it is super light and the recoil is basicaly nonexistant i ran a box of light field loads threw it in sub freezing weather and had no problems with it. she hated my condor (too heavy too big too much recoil) wouldent evan shoot my mossburg (i dont blame her) also she shot an 870 that she hated (too much recoil in 12ga) then she shot my buddies a303 in 12ga and loved it evan though it was a little big for her. we found the 20 at a gun show for 350 and bought it on the spot. if you keep it clean the 303 will work forever my buddy just took his apart to clean it all the way and found the gas ports were almost clogged and it still worked well. if you can find on thats the gun i would get for her.

grouse are now closed in pa and quail and phesant are closed in that part of the state. the only game in town now is pay to play for about 75mi in my part of the state.pa has wildlife management units and every differnt type of game is regulated in those WMU's. i live just over the border with delaware accualy exit 1 off i95 about 25mi s of philly. another big problem is the fact that most of lancaster and chester countys are beeing over run with subdivisions and strip malls. there are a few stategame lands that we hunt in Reading berks county that arnt too bad but it seems that hunting on privet lands is realy out of the question because of idiots that have turned most land owners aganest hunters and fishermen. more than once ive been asked to leave streams flyfishing buy land owners evan though if your standing in the creek they by law can't. i just say sorry pack up and leave. i'm planing a trip over to north jersy with at friend from the dog club to do a pay to play trip but we have to go soon because most farms are out of birds by the end of march. i'm entering doc in amature gun dog at the end of march

doc my wiem is a perty close hunter if i make him 10-20 yd when theres birds in the field.. i live about 20 miles se of philly pa and quite frankly there are NO wild phesants to be found your best bet will be a hold over from the early season stocking by the state. and then you have to fight the rats and cats for them. as a matter of fact our phesant season with in about 75miles of my house has been closed since november 26 we had to travel about 100miles up state to hunt them and evan then there isnt many corn fields in Ne pa its mostly eastern mountans and heavy woods with the occasinal swamp. i would love to head out to the midwest for a real hunt but vacations have been few and quite far between for me most of my hunts are day trips at best and usualy on state lands or pay to play farms just so i can work my dog between field trials,
  22. ive had a mossburg 500 for over 10years that i bought very used at a gun show for 100$. the only problem ive ever had with it is the slide sticks some times because of a worn roll pin in the forestock it has served me well and taken way too much abuse. also there is a ton of after market stuff for the 500 that just isnt readly available for the nova. if i was in the market for a pump gun i would go with the mossburg again.

one of the dudes i hunt with only uses #6 high brass with a full choke for phesants in his 11/87 because his gun dosent like light loads. more than once ive seen him explode a bird into a bloody mess which is areal shame in pa because we only have a 2 bird limit. its kind of sad to see the dog trying to retreve several parts at one time
  24. for years i used to use a mossburg 500 with a 18.5"bbl to shoot skeet but there were two major draw backs first it used to beat the crap out of me after 50 shots or so i just couldent shoot it any more because of the punnishing recoil. but i broke a lot of birds. the other draw back was, every time i took it out at the range the old dudes would tease me about sticking up the quicky mart on my way home. if you want a duel purpose gun mossburg used to make a kit that consisted of a 18.5bbl and a pistol grip and a 28"bbl and a full composit stock it only takes about 15mins to change the stock and bbl also its fairly cheep and my mossburg 500 takes all kinds of abuse and keeps shooting.
  25. brushing is easy also and can give a real custom look. engine truning is also an option and if done right realy looks cool
