  1. Water swatting doves is an interesting concept. Obviously, the Potato sub forum at the fuge is extra slow these days. Wait, it's Idaho, AND it's the fuge. It's got SLOW built right in!
  2. Did you buy the gun new or used?
  3. Mostly, we have BASS to thank for this kind of mentality. Maybe we'll have a pro duck hunting circuit in a few more years. Then all the posers can get out there with their decaled guns, sponsor patch laden camo, e-bay lanyard bling, and show us how awesome they are by shooting grain addict mallards over flooded crops.
  4. Cycle speed has never been an issue for me either. Perhaps if I were an exhibition shooter. Browning is faster? Yawn. The Maxus looks like a nice enough gun. Perhaps a bit more complicated than I like, but nice enough. I like the turnkey plug removal.
  5. I believe lock time is a measure of the time between pulling the trigger and going "BOOM", but you're right. It's not usually such a big deal on a shotgun.
  6. Keep a close watch on ebay for listings with brand names spelled incorrectly. That cuts the search results down considerably and makes easier pickings for the savvy buyer.
  7. I don't like AO scopes on deer rifles, but my situation dictates running and off-hand shots. I like the 3.5-10 VXIII and the Zeiss Conquest 44 mm.
  8. Bottles or cans?
  9. 6-40, 6-48 and 8-40 are industry standards. You should use plug screws, not set screws. Brownells has them. Probably Midway too.
  10. Oh God........
  11. Yes, if you must shoot the girly loads, then the Vinci may the best choice for your frail construction. I hear the French Army is looking at it. From the Vinci specs: "Ammunition: 12-gauge — 2-3/4" target loads (3 dram, 1 oz.) to 3" Magnums"
  12. C'mon, guys! I can't be the only one who has sealed the deal. Pics please!
  13. Take the gun to you local gun shop and trade it. You'll need to have your credit card handy as well.
  14. like all Benellis, it will stomp a mudhole in your azz. Better get a 12 lb. Mossberg and be safe from the evils of recoil.
  15. Is that a mullet in your diaper, or are you just glad to see me? 922r is the kind of thing that's enforced when other and more serious charges are brought to bear. It's like having a busted tail light while driving drunk and running over people in shopping malls.
  16. The best way to identify them is to kill one and then post a picture on the Refuge Forums, asking the regulars there what kind it is.
  17. The birds were talking, but the fish weren't biting. Setup on four gobblers together first thing. I called one right in, but my buddy was caught behind a big tree with the gobbler on the other side. When he tried to make a move, he got busted and old tom was gone in a flash. Two others continued to gobble, but wouldn't come in. We got back in the boat and moved down the creek and tried a few other spots. Nothing. Came back up the creek and tired a few calls near where we'd been busted on the four earlier. Two gobbled right off the bat. We paddled to the bank and setup about 150 yards from them. Five minutes and a few soft yelps later, and it was all over. We fished a few spots and listened for more birds until noon (can't hunt past noon here first two weeks). Caught a couple of 2-3 lb. pickerel and a small bass. The boat trip was different and a lot of fun. We'd seen a lot of turkeys when duck hunting this creek last Fall, so it seemed like a good idea from the start. We may try it again one day next week.
  18. All of them so-called "tactical" shotguns shoot the girly loads. They don't make one in the grown-up size of 3.5" like my hunting gun. I suppose they'll do OK if you get two rounds into Stuart Little before he grabs some cover behind a matchbook.
  19. You need to wait a few more months. I hear Aimpoint's developing a periscope model for the Seals
  20. Is a tactical gun still tactical if I shoot pigeons and rats with it?
  21. Last week was a bust. Cold, wet, rainy. Heard a bird gobble three times on roost, then hit the ground and clammed up. Hoping for better results tomorrow. We're planning a turkey by boat trip. We'll take the rods and reels in case the birds aren't talking .
  22. Make sure the gun is empty and that the safety is engaged. Remove the magazine cap. In the end of the magazine, there is a ring with a split and two small holes in it, and a larger hole in the center. The two small holes are there so that a pair of snap ring pliers can be used to compress the ring for easy removal. If you do not have snap ring pliers, simply insert a screwdriver tip into the center hole and pry the opposite upwards. Using that technique, walk the ring out of the magazine tube. CAUTION: The spring beneath the ring is compressed, and it will fly out if allowed to do so. Cup your hand over the ring as it is about to pop out of the tube to prevent the spring sailing across the room or hitting you in the face. The limiter fits inside the spring and it will come out after the spring cap is removed.

  24. I dove hunt with mine all the time and have no problems. Just make sure the loads you use meet or exceed the minimum recommended load potency and you'll be fine. 3 drams / 1-1/8 ounce (which are low brass, by the way) Although some will cycle lighter loads, Benelli will not consider the gun as defective if it doesn't cycle the light stuff.
  25. I'm sure Briley's can do the work for you. http://www.briley.com/2009/shotgungunsmithingpricing.html
