  1. So $100 to be able to hunt turkeys for 3 days (not including room and board), and $400 per day to do the offshore fishing. Doesn't sound too bad. I'm still in the penny saving mode to do that. I've got enough for my new shotgun (just haven't bought it yet), and am now saving to take dad somewhere to go turkey hunting.
  2. Some day I may take you up on that, seriously. And yes, here in my part of the state the Fish and Game introduced them (planted them) about five years ago, up until then we didn't have any, or at least not anywhere nearby. I think there are 200 tags in my area, and somewhere between 900-1100 guys will put in for the draw. I lucked out last year and am hoping for the same this year. I love being out there in the woods, calling them, having them answer back, and working them. It's been a blast. I'm hoping this year is the year though! You may live to regret offering! Out of curiosity, what does it cost for a Non-resident to come hunt turkeys where you're at?
  3. This will be my fourth season hunting turkeys, and as to this date, I've never harvested one. My first year my dad and I went to Custer, S.D., and stayed with a buddy of my dads. It was a very exciting hunt, and is definitely what got me hooked. We never got close enough to take a shot, but it was a very memorable trip. My second year hunting dad and I again returned to Custer, S.D., where we hooked up with that same friend of dads. He had to work so we spent most of our time hunting alone, and again we were not successful in harvesting any birds. It was still a blast. We called a lot of birds, and hiked through some very beautiful country in the Black Hills. My third year was last year, and I was lucky enough to draw in my area, so I could hunt right around where I live. I spent a lot of time out there, whenever I could, hunting that elusive bird. I had some great times calling them, and even seeing some, but none close enough to shoot. This year is my fourth year. I've put in for the hunt, but won't know for a while if I've drawn or not. The next closest turkey hunting area that doesn't require a controlled hunt permit is a three hour drive away, and unfortunately that's far enough that I can't get away too easily to go scout it, so I'm really hoping to draw again. I "really" enjoy hunting them. I don't hunt big game any more, and I guess calling the toms and having them gobble back just brings back memories of bugling elk - except it'll be a lot less work to have a dead turkey to haul out versus a bull elk. It must be fun, else why would I keep doing it?
  4. First time my older sister took out our Volkswagon Rabbit she hit a moose. It got up and walked away. Slid right up the hood and into the windshield. You could see it's spin and hindquarters imprinted in the safety glass. She drove the car home after that. I drove it fro another four or five years after that even.
  5. The cushion. If it makes you more comfortable, and you can afford it, why not?
  6. I'm thinking that if SureFire doesn't have a pic, it might be hard to come by. Info from their site: The SureFire M80 Picatinny rail forend is a high-quality Picatinny forend for the Benelli M4 that replaces the weapon’s stock forend allowing the user to mount a variety of accessories. Machined from military specification hard-anodized aluminum, they’re stronger, dissipate heat much better, and provide rock-solid weapon fit. These precision rails enable consistent “repeat zero” of any accurately dimensioned devices attached to them, such as SureFire lasers or WeaponLights. Price: $215. Oh, and all I did to find that was goto Google and type in Surefire Picatinny for benelli m4 [ 01-18-2006, 11:37 AM: Message edited by: sdkidaho ]
  7. Not much meat on them, just the breasts essentially, but I know people eat them. Bite sized morsels. Some dove recipes.
  8. Ah, I think I answered my own question from reading another thread: It wasn't a slight against anyone, it was just a question, dude. I don't know most of you from Adam, but it wasn't my intent to accuse anyone of not being ethical.
  9. Kidding? Why would I kid? No, really, why would I? And no, I've got a brother in-law that loves to hunt birds, but he doesn't like taking them home, so I rarely go with him because of it. Or is your response to "I just can't see killing something just to kill it." I understand trophy hunting, but even there we always took the meat. Always.
  10. I would have liked to see that. Will have to watch for it.
  11. The ducks, I mean. Seems like I hear a lot of guys that talk about liking to hunt them, but few that like to eat them. I just can't see killing something just to kill it. I suppose as long as the meat goes to someone, somewhere, it wouldn't bother me, but thinking that someone is just tossing the birds pretty much irks me. I can't remember the last time I had duck. When I was a teen I think, and if I recall it correctly it tasted like mud. Any good recipes or suggestions for cooking them?
  12. Man, that is sad.
  13. And if I recall, you are having trouble on the 4th and 5th shot. Sounds reasonable. Try shooting them with time inbetween to make sure you have it shouldered properly. [ 01-17-2006, 01:28 PM: Message edited by: sdkidaho ]

    New for 2006?

    Tucker! Look! It's another lefty!
  16. Oh, and one other piece of advice. I'm a firm believer in not settling. If the gun you want is currently out of your price range, wait until you can have the one you want. Hard to not be happy when you get what you want. Generally speaking.
  17. You could look at a DeHaan O/U as they start at just under $650. Or if you wanted to stick with the Benelli family you could look at Condor series by Stoeger. Plenty of O/U's out there for less than $700. Can't vouche for quality but I've heard good things about the DeHaans, mostly due to the guys customer service and how well he takes care of his clients. You can see what people have to say about him in this forum, and you can check out the Stoeger group in our forums here.
  18. Beautiful and for sale.
  19. No doubt. I can buy a 2007 Chevy Tahoe within the next month, so where is the 2006 Benelli stuff!!
  20. The regulations for this years Turkey Season are now up on the Fish & Game website. [ 01-10-2006, 04:28 PM: Message edited by: sdkidaho ]

    Gun.

    What happened to the Stoeger?
  22. Well, if you mean that someone won't be able to navigate due to injury, sure, other than that? Nope.

    Quality ammo

Hoping that wallhanger will chime with what he knows about ammo as I'm curious what people have seen to work the best. I've always used Remington ammo in my Nova, and I've never had an issue with it. I ran some Federal through it once because I noticed that's what they were always using on Benelli's American Bird Hunter, but it was the worst stuff ever. It jammed every shell out of an entire box. Anyway, I'm always open to good information. Thanks. [ 01-06-2006, 02:25 PM: Message edited by: sdkidaho ]
